If only Paul Krugman would STFU, I’m sure things would be just fine.

It’s Okay to be Scared Now |
| By: Jane Hamsher Sunday August 14, 2011 8:32 am |
So the two jobs plans under consideration are put on a show and score a “win” by paying off the Chamber, arming the North Koreans and offshoring 160,000 jobs with another NAFTA deal, or put on a show and pretend to care about passing legislation that will never happen.
You know at some point people might get wise to the fact that Obama is the most powerful political figure in the world, and he does have options beyond being a corporate tool who lets his campaign manager rearrange the national lawn furniture.
Bernie Sanders to Primary Obama? Don’t Make Me Laugh |
| By: Jane Hamsher Sunday July 31, 2011 9:05 am |
Every time the Democrats do something to betray the promises of the 2008 election and bitchslap the people who believed in them, someone comes into the comments and says “will you support a primary for Obama NOW Jane?” I answered the question yesterday during the Democratic Irrelevance Senate Debt Ceiling Watch Party: It just seems [...]
Obama: We Offered Cuts to “Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security” |
| By: Jane Hamsher Saturday July 23, 2011 8:48 am |
It’s been two and a half years since we first said Obama was trying to cut Social Security. Denial is no longer possible. Barack Obama, 7/22/2011, 6:06pm ET:
“We then offered an additional $650 billion in cuts to entitlement programs — Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security.”
Still waiting for the “epic shitstorm.”
Over 2000 People Will Say No Cuts to Social Security or Medicare Benefits at Congressional Offices Across the Country. Will You? |

Someone should tell the President that if he wants to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits before defense spending, he’s not in any position to be giving advice to progressives.
Obama to Eliminate Elizabeth Warren as Head of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau |
| By: Jane Hamsher Saturday July 16, 2011 8:41 am |
The bright side (if there is a bright side) is that Warren will be able to speak more freely if she’s not the head of the agency, and we could use some adults in the conversation right now. A giant manufactured debt ceiling crisis is being used to force Shock Doctrine austerity on the country. I hope somebody will ask her how she’d handle things if she was President. What do you think Elizabeth Warren would do about the debt ceiling showdown if she was in Obama’s shoes right now?
Debt Ceiling News Tick-Tock [Updated] |

It’s hard keeping up with the pace of the debt ceiling news, so if you see anything, put it in the comments and I’ll add it:
About That McConnell Deal… |
| By: Jane Hamsher Thursday July 14, 2011 6:36 am |
Cantor offered a temporary extension three times last night, and by both Democratic and GOP accounts, that’s what made Obama snap. You gotta feel sorry for the guy. His most ardent supporters are the dumbest motherfuckers in the world, and they don’t realize he thinks they are digging his political grave.
Barack Obama and the Art of Negotiation |
| By: Jane Hamsher Monday December 20, 2010 9:58 am |
If, as Robert Kuttner says, Obama is negotiating a a “grand bargain” with the Republicans that includes cuts to Social Security benefits, the GOP is running a successful trap for him once again. White House strategist apparently believe that this will “give Obama ‘credit’ for getting serious about deficit reduction.’”

Friends of the Earth have released the following statement regarding President Obama’s NAFTA-Style South Korean Free Trade Agreement:
