What’s a Few Dead Labor Leaders Between Friends? Colombia Free Trade, Then and Now

By: Thursday October 13, 2011 11:52 am

If there is one good thing to come out of the passage of these bills, which are estimated to cost over 200,000 American jobs and increase the trade deficit by billions of dollars, I hope is is the message that it sends to those participating in #OWS protests across the country.

This is what happens to the things you believe in at the hands of Barack Obama, the Democratic party…and those like Ezra Klein who carry their water.

That Giant Sucking Sound

By: Thursday October 13, 2011 9:03 am

That giant sucking sound you hear today is the sound of jobs being outsourced as President Obama signs into law three free trade deals; South Korea, Colombia and Panama. According to the Economic Policy Institute, passing the Korea Free Trade deal will likely cost this country 159,000 jobs. The three trade deals remain basically unchanged [...]

Assassination Stress Tests: White House Moves NAFTA-style Colombia Trade Deal

By: Wednesday April 6, 2011 10:59 am

The Obama Adminstration announced today it intends to move to Congress a NAFTA-style trade deal with Colombia (better known as Colombian “Free Trade”). The hold up for the last five years has been the little issue of union members being assassinated in Colombia. Specifically, 2,850 trade unionists have been assassinated in Colombia in the last 25 years, including 52 murdered in 2009.

Good news! The Obama Administration and Colombia have agreed to an “Action Plan” to reduce those assassinations in the next 3 months before Congress ratifies the NAFTA-style trade deal. As Marcy Wheeler noted, those checkpoints are essentially “assassination stress tests” – a meaningless series of goals without real enforcement, and without a requirement that the number of murders is actually, you know, reduced.

Korea Free Trade, Here We Come

By: Wednesday November 10, 2010 9:46 pm

The proposed Korean “free trade” agreement would be a truly horrific blow to whatever is left of American manufacturing at a time when unemployment is rampant. But from a political standpoint, fighting for another so-called “free trade” agreement right now has got to represent some kind of death wish for the Democratic party. I don’t have any other way to explain it.

Pelosi: Health Care Bill a Conservative Bill (Time to Go Back Under the Bus, Veal Pen)

By: Tuesday March 23, 2010 4:58 pm

Just before the House passed the health care bil, Nancy Pelosi sent out a letter.    In it, she said that “An op-ed by E.J. Dionne on Friday reveals that the current health reform legislation pending before Congress was “built on a series of principles that Republicans espoused for years.”  She bolded Dionne’s headline: Why Democrats Are [...]

Howie Klein: Blue Dog Concern Troll

Can Rahm Emanuel Validate Eric Cantor’s Prediction Of A 2010 GOP Landslide?

Travis Childers and Democrats in conservative districts cannot win re-election by voting for a costly bailout for European banksters. But Emanuel is dealing with him and other Democrats the same way he did when he pushed through the highly unpopular– and extremely destructive– NAFTA legislation for Bill Clinton. He’s wheelin’ and dealin’… and threatening. He’ll let the vicious but loaded AIPAC monsters lose on you to finance a primary; he’ll kill your (Childers’ in this case) post office request.

John Mccain And “Jobs First”

By: Monday July 7, 2008 7:10 am

The Democratic National Committee puts together another in what has become a series of devastating side by sides of McCain and Bush (Moveon and others have chipped into this effort also).

In this ad, we hear the strikingly similar rhetoric coming from both Bush and McCain to try and convince us that the fundamentals of the economy are good, NAFTA has been economic Viagra, etc.
