How is Newt Gingrich Not a Lobbyist?

I’m certain there are people who have thought about this a great deal, but “do you or an organization you work for stand to profit as a result of the actions of this panel” seems a more effective threshold for participation in federal advisory boards.

Because the definition of “lobbyist” seems a bit too flexible to prohibit the biggest of the professional influence peddlers.

McCain Lied, Campaign Manager’s Firm Paid by Freddie Mac Through Last Month

John McCain boasted that he’d be glad to have his campaign manager’s lobbying record examined by anyone. The New York Times took him up on the offer. Davis claimed he never lobbied for Freddie Mac. It appears that he didn’t register to lobby for Freddie Mac–but that’s not the same thing. Freddie Mac said they were paying Davis’s firm fifteen grand a month to do nothing but keep Rick Davis close to John McCain:
