The Biggest Progressive Victory of 2014 So Far Was Against Obama, Not With Him

By: Friday February 21, 2014 8:19 am

Since we are only seven weeks into 2014 I feel confident calling President Obama’s decision to remove the chained-CPI Social Security benefit cut from his budget the biggest victory for progressives so far this year. The change is bigger than simply the removal of a line from a budget. It symbolizes a victory over the [...]

Obama’s Budget Drops Big Social Security Cut

By: Thursday February 20, 2014 10:27 am

President Obama’s new proposed budget won’t include cutting Social Security benefits by adopting a chained-CPI. The AP reports the White House has dropped the controversial change. Last year in a desperate final attempt to spur a grand bargain Obama put forward a “compromise” budget which included entitlement cuts like chained-CPI. Despite upsetting many Democrats, the [...]

Another Poll Shows Americans Oppose Chained-CPI Cut for Social Security

By: Friday April 19, 2013 7:07 am

There is yet another poll showing that a majority of Americans oppose President Obama’s efforts to cut Social Security benefits by adopting the chained-CPI. The poll also found that American people overwhelmingly think raising the Medicare age would be a bad idea. Only 30 percent favor gradually raising the age while 59 percent oppose it. While our political leaders still seem to be enamored with making old people poorer, it is good to see the American people have roundly rejected two of the worst ideas proposed in Washington.

Obama Tries to Make Every False GOP Attack True

By: Thursday April 11, 2013 7:30 am

What I find most ironic about President Obama’s budget is that in trying to find “common ground”, he became the caricature Republicans created about him. Throughout most of Obama’s first term Republicans attacked him based on what were two false premises. The first was that Obama raised taxes on the middle class. Republicans would sometimes [...]

Americans For Tax Reform Call Chained-CPI a Middle Class Tax Increase

By: Wednesday April 10, 2013 9:45 am

Here is another reason Republicans are sadly our best hope for protecting Social Security. The powerful conservative group Americans For Tax Reform, founded by Grover Norquist, called chained-CPI a middle class tax increase. Supporting it would be a violation of the tax pledge most Congressional Republicans have signed. From Americans For Tax Reform: On the [...]

Obama’s Plan to Shield Groups From Chained-CPI Proves It Is a Con

By: Wednesday April 10, 2013 9:18 am

If chained-CPI was merely a technical fix or a more accurate measure of inflation, it should be applied equally across the entire federal budget. This is not what Obama is proposing. Instead he plans to “shield” many groups from what he claims is only a technical adjustment. From CBS News: White House Press Secretary Jay [...]

Chained-CPI, The Media and Governing by Con

By: Wednesday April 10, 2013 6:52 am

President Obama’s proposed switch to chained-CPI is primarily a Social Security benefit cut and a middle class tax increase. Most importantly, it also an elaborate con. It is a con on the American people that Obama feels the media will allow and/or help him pull off. It is not a technical improvement. I’ve heard very [...]

Obama Is the Driving Force Behind Cutting Your Social Security

By: Friday April 5, 2013 7:43 am

If it wasn’t already abundantly clear there is now more proof President Obama really really really wants to cut Social Security benefits for current retirees. Obama will include the chained-CPI, which is a yearly and continuously growing cut to your Social Security benefits, in his budget. From Politico: President Barack Obama will make another run [...]

Three Reasons the GOP Ironically Remains the Best Hope for Protecting Social Security

By: Monday March 18, 2013 8:33 am

President Obama wants to cut Social Security benefits as part of a grand bargain and he is working hard to get Congressional Democrats behind his proposal. The only thing preventing the program from being cut is House Republicans’ unwillingness to accept a deal. Fortunately, for people who care about Social Security there are three main [...]

Chained CPI for Social Security May Be Second Stupidest Idea in Washington

By: Wednesday March 6, 2013 8:11 am

I would like to call cutting Social Security by adopting the chained CPI the worst idea seriously being considered in Washington, but that title already belongs to raising the Medicare eligibility age. Chained CPI is at least a strong contender for second place. First, cutting Social Security at this time is incredibly misguided because the [...]
