Will it Also Take Eight Years to Find Out Role Oil Companies Played in War in Libya?

By: Wednesday April 20, 2011 9:31 am

We finally have the documentary proof showing the important role oil companies played in the lead up to the war in Iraq. From the Independent: The documents were not offered as evidence in the ongoing Chilcot Inquiry into the UK’s involvement in the Iraq war. In March 2003, just before Britain went to war, Shell [...]

Tiny Minority of Puzzled Americans Endorses Barton’s “Shakedown” Rhetoric

By: Thursday June 17, 2010 11:45 am

For reasons that go beyond boggling my mind, Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX), the ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce, took it upon himself to apologize to BP CEO Tony Hayward for how mean President Obama has been to his company. He called Obama’s request that BP put $20 billion in an escrow fund [...]

Stop the BP Bailout: 50,000 Petition Signatures by Next Week

By: Wednesday June 16, 2010 3:58 pm

While the President reiterated that $20 billion isn’t a cap, it’s important to know how much more BP could and should pay. One analyst said it could be as much as $63 billion; I suspect and hope it will be in the hundreds of billions. That’s why it’s important we make clear BP should be responsible for every dime of damage from its disaster. Anything less is a taxpayer funded bailout of BP. Can you add your name and help us reach 50,000 signatures before we deliver our petition to the Senate next week?

Sierra Club: Pro-Corporate, Anti-Grass Roots

By: Tuesday June 15, 2010 11:10 am

There was some lively response yesterday to my post on the Sierra Club and its reluctance to criticize the Obama administration for its handling of the oil spill. There is no shortage of targets: the Center for Biological Diversity exposed Ken Salazar for granting new drilling permits after he said there was a moratorium. Food [...]

Josh Gerstein has an article in Politico on the massive silence coming out of the enviros on the BP oil catastrophe, which has been notable ever since the rig collapsed. Could Lack of Enforcement Cause a BP-Like Disaster for Health Care?

By: Monday May 17, 2010 2:06 pm

The unfolding oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico is a perfect example of how regulations are only as good as the dedication of the cops on the beat. Soon, we’ll be seeing this with healthcare, too. “The New York Times” has an article about how the health insurers are trying to game the new [...]

Will Salazar Let BP Wait 20 Years to Compensate Gulf Fishermen?

By: Friday May 14, 2010 10:18 am

Global Green has a video of the fishermen of Shell Beach, Louisiana, who know that the BP oil spill will probably soon put them out of business: Anthony Greco III: I’ve been fishing all my life. Robert Campo: I don’t have Type A blood, I’ve got type saltwater.  My family’s been at this four generations. [...]

Despite Offshore Oil Disaster, Republicans Still Thrill to Drill

By: Tuesday May 11, 2010 4:18 pm

As oil continues to gush in the Gulf of Mexico, 55 percent of Americans think it is a major disaster and 37 percent believe it is a serious problem but not a disaster, according to a new Pew poll. Only four percent believe it is not serious. It is safe to assume as events unfold [...]
