Diddy Scared by McCain’s “That One,” Calls for People to Vote

By: Lisa Derrick Wednesday October 8, 2008 5:39 pm

John McCain scares Sean Diddy Combs even more than Sarah Palin. And he’s right, we all should be scared of McCain’s verbal slips. This time in his video blog the rapper/entrepreneur is righteous, not goofing.  Diddy saw McCain’s use of "That One" referring to Obama as an grave and deep insult: This is 2008, not [...]

Foo Fighters Fightin’ Mad Over McCain Musical Misappropriation

By: Lisa Derrick Wednesday October 8, 2008 11:09 am

John McCain is at it again, misappropriating songs for use in his campaign, not requesting permission and keeping the music playing until he gets a cease and desist letter. Can’t you hear the RNC party-planners whining right now: "But all the cool songs are done by liberals, and they won’t let us if we ask…"? [...]

RESOLVED: Presidential Debates are an Insult to Our Collective Intelligence and Must Be Reformed

By: Lindsay Beyerstein Wednesday October 8, 2008 7:41 am

Presidential debates aren’t really debates. These faux debates are bad for democracy. Ideally, debates should inform voters about the issues and challenge the candidates to move beyond their talking points and think on their feet. Under the current rules, these events have degenerated into non sequitur public speaking contests.

Race is Driving McCain Campaign Strategy

Politico reaffirms the obvious: John McCain is playing the race card and everybody knows it.

McCain Points Finger, Gets Facepalmed Over Donations

By: Lisa Derrick Tuesday October 7, 2008 11:06 am

Two apparently fictional donors using the names "Doodad Pro" and "Good Will" gave Obama more than $11,000 in increments of $10 and $25 online donations, well above the individual amount of $2,300 allowed, according to Newsweek.  That $11K is  out of a total of $458 million so far. About half the donations have come from [...]

The Amok Time: Candidates as Star Trek Characters

By: Lisa Derrick Tuesday October 7, 2008 3:42 am

Trekkies–or to use the more PC term they prefer "Trekkers"– have been hotly debating who’s who on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise. While McCain as Kirk seems a bit grandiose, Palin as a tribble, the irritatingly cute, furry creature which is actually a ecological menace is spot on.

Palin Puttin’ on Ayers

By: Lindsay Beyerstein Monday October 6, 2008 11:17 am

Sarah Palin said last week that “[Barack Obama] is someone who sees America as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country.”

Rolling Stone Destroys Myth of Maverick McCain

By: Lindsay Beyerstein Sunday October 5, 2008 4:07 pm

Rolling Stone‘s cover story, Make-Believe Maverick, is a brutal and brilliant expose of John McCain’s pretensions of valor. The story opens with a telling anecdote: In 1974 McCain runs into Lt. Col. John Dramesi, a fellow former POW. Unlike McCain, Dramesi refused to give a false confession under torture. So, the encounter is awkward. Both [...]

Palin’s Record on Child Health Insurance Undercuts EveryMom Image

By: Lindsay Beyerstein Friday October 3, 2008 12:30 pm

In last night’s debate, Sarah Palin took pains to remind the audience that she is a mother who knows how hard it is to raise kids without health insurance. She said she remembered what it was like to sit around the kitchen table with Todd and worry about how they were going to pay out of pocket for health insurance.

Yet, Palin’s inaction on child health insurance as governor of Alaska suggests that she doesn’t remember the bad old days as vividly as she claims.

Did McCain Campaign Foot the Bill for Cindy’s Personal Trip?

By: Lindsay Beyerstein Friday October 3, 2008 7:30 am

Cindy McCain claims that her recent trip to South East Asia was a humanitarian trip, not a campaign activity. Yet, suspicious expenses have cropped up in the McCain Campaign’s financial disclosures, Narco News discovered. Disbursements in early July include $7,335.42 to Air Singapore, and $1418.91 the Raffles hotel in Singapore.
