Sierra Club and Gang Green: Oil Spill Cleanup “Just Fine”

By: Jane Hamsher Monday June 14, 2010 8:46 am

Josh Gerstein has an article in Politico on the massive silence coming out of the enviros on the BP oil catastrophe, which has been notable ever since the rig collapsed. This weekend the groups took out an ad in the Washington Post, not to criticize the administration for their response, but to praise the President [...]

The Progressive Movement is Officially Dead

By: Jane Hamsher Friday April 30, 2010 8:35 am

Hey, Sierra Club: There’s a giant flaming ball of oil being pushed straight for the coasts of Alabama and Mississippi. Might be the worst environmental event in decades. I know it makes the President’s recent decision to allow offshore drilling look. . . well, awkwardly timed, but this is, sort of, you know, your issue, [...]

Mass-Transit Oriented Smart Growth: The True Melding Of Environmentalist And Labor Union Interests

By: Jon Walker Tuesday November 17, 2009 7:59 am

Recently there has been a lot of focus on a possible “blue/green alliance” among the political left in this country. Anti-Regulation Crusader Shortlisted for Regulatory Post at DOE

By: Lindsay Beyerstein Tuesday August 19, 2008 2:03 pm

A senior aide to Dick Cheney has been shortlisted for a top regulatory post at the Department of Energy. The Washington Post reported today that anti-regulation crusader F. Chase Hutto is poised to ascend to the post of assistant secretary for policy and internatioal affairs at the Department of Energy.

Hutto is a natural choice for a top regulatory post in the Bush administration–one colleague describes the former CATO Institute intern and Bush campaign volunteer as “naturally and philosophically opposed to regulation.”

As deputy assistant to the Vice President for domestic policy, Hutto was part of a clique of Cheney advisers and oil industry lobbyists who worked together to shift the Bush administration’s policy on climate change.

The Bush administration seemed poised to classify greenhouse emissions as health hazards, a dramatic policy shift which would have empowered the EPA to regulate emissions under the Clean Air Act. The proposal had broad support at the top levels of the EPA.
