McCain Points Finger, Gets Facepalmed Over Donations

Posted in: Barack Obama, John McCain, Republican

629_money_box.thumbnail.jpgTwo apparently fictional donors using the names "Doodad Pro" and "Good Will" gave Obama more than $11,000 in increments of $10 and $25 online donations, well above the individual amount of $2,300 allowed, according to Newsweek.  That $11K is  out of a total of $458 million so far. About half the donations have come from donors who contribute $200 or less.  That’s $11,000 out of approximately $270 million. That’s a very weensy percentage.

"Good Will" ?  The repeat donor used the address of a Goodwill thrift shop on the disclaimer form. And Doodad Pro gave his residence as a liquor store.  A tinfoil hat wearing, professional conspiracy theorist would be quoting Marion Barry right about now.

"While no organization is completely protected from Internet fraud, we will continue to review our fund-raising procedures," Obama spokesperson LaBolt said. Sorta like in that ticket scalping issue we reported yesterday.

And really can the Republican National Committee say no one named  Joseph Sikspaksi, Ann Omynous or Your Fellow American has ever donated to McCain, sending a sawback  or a money order tucked inside a birthday card? Repeatedly?

So now McCain’s campaign is bawwwing over Obama’s donations from overseas.

However an New York Times analysis of campaign finance records  found only  about 1 percent of the $270 million in itemized donations over $200 received by the Obama campaign were from donors who listed an abbreviation other than that of one of the 50 states or an American territory.

Neener, neener. And guess what?!

Donations from overseas are legal if the donor is an American citizen or has a green card, and the RNC was hard pressed to furnish definitive proof that the Obama campaign accepting contributions from other foreign citizens.  Epic fail.
