As my colleague Kevin Gosztola explained, we hadn’t seen a “Letter from Loretto” from CIA torture whistleblower John Kiriakou for quite some time because he had made a deal with the Bureau of Prisons.
John agreed to stop writing letters, decline interviews with the press and drop his complaints against prison officials and, in exchange, the BOP would grant him 9 months in a halfway house, thereby releasing him in August 2014 instead of February 2015.
But in a new letter, John says prison officials have broken their promise. He’s declined to go into details for the time being (he said he would discuss what happened in a future letter) but did tell us that the BOP suddenly changed course to offer him only six months in the halfway house. Then three months. Then they threatened him with no time at the halfway house at all. Sensing that the decision had become “political in nature,” John decided to end his silence and fight back, and we’re standing with him.
By the end of January, Erlinda Hernandez at the BOP will decide to either honor their original deal and give John 9 months in the halfway house, or break that promise and reduce that time, or perhaps keep him in federal penitentiary until February of next year. Can you please write her a letter immediately asking the Bureau of Prisons to uphold their end of the deal and give John Kiriakou 9 months in a halfway house?
The address is:

If possible, John asked that you please copy:

Hernandez and the Bureau of Prisons will be deciding John’s fate at the end of this month. Please write to them immediately in support of their original deal.
