Just in case you thought something approaching basic governance had broken out in Congress, Sen. Lindsay Graham is going to make sure that doesn’t happen. He announced on twitter that he will block every nominee in the Senate until there are more Benghazi hearings:
It doesn’t matter if it’s a nominee for a judicial opening, a position to oversee federal student loans, or an undersecretary of agriculture. Graham is going to tie up everything in the executive branch even if it has zero relationship to Libya or even foreign policy. This is not how a sane government operates and no other democracy allows this nonsense.
This level of legislative stupidity is unsustainable and unbefitting a world power.
Now that Congressional Republicans have committed themselves to all-out opposition tactics, we can either keep the Senate’s ridiculous rules or have a functioning government, but we can’t have both.
We can’t allow one senator to throw sand into the gears of everything just for a political stunt to help himself in an upcoming primary. Graham is perfectly proving why the Senate rules finally need to be fixed.
