If Pfc. Bradley Manning is convicted of ‘aiding the enemy,’ it could be the end of whistleblowing as we know it in the United States Armed Forces.
We made this YouTube advertisement entitled “Aiding the Enemy” to raise awareness of the dangers posed to the American public by leveling this charge at Bradley Manning, and recruit people to our campaign urging Major General Michael Linnington to drop the charge immediately.
Our goal in creating “Aiding the Enemy” was to let members of the press and public like Alyona Minkovski (RT America, now HuffPostTV) and Glenn Greenwald (The Guardian) simply explain what the charge could mean for future generations of Americans, in their own words. With your support, we’ll purchase advertising on YouTube and run it on relevant channels like The Young Turks and RT America in hopes of recruiting Manning supporters to the campaign.
The radical application and interpretation of the ‘aiding the enemy’ charge means that the US can bring the threat of execution or life imprisonment to any soldier who chooses to make public information on US war crimes and corruption, on the extremely questionable justification that “the enemy” can read and make use of such reports in the press.
This is not an effort by our government to protect state secrets from our enemies but part of a larger campaign to protect the truth about US actions from the public by any means necessary. The war on whistleblowers brands as criminals those brave enough to speak out when they see our government doing something that runs against American mores and values as Bradley did, and it must stop now.

About FDL Action
I did kick in a few dollars, although I won’t pretend it was a princely sum. I’m glad we’re doing this.
I haven’t seen issue advertising on YouTube. Does Google impose any restrictions on such ads (television networks often refuse to run anything even slightly unconventional)? What say would you have over how the advertising is targeted?
I pitched in a few dollars. This is one issue that really pisses me off. I hate a government that goes after whistle blowers and people growing marijuana and the young man that got prosecuted at MIT, the one that killed himself. This crooked government didn’t prosecute anybody from wall street. I know we got to have law officers but I hate all of them, I guess it’s probably my dealings with them in past during my rowdy days , I personally seen how corrupt some them are and the mentality most of them had when I have dealt with.
Lays it out clearly.
That the “Republic , if you can keep it” should have so slipped from our grasp is horrifying.
