Bradley Manning will be back in court November 27th and December 15th, and thanks to your donations, FDL’s Kevin Gostzola will be there again as the only reporter who has covered the Manning hearings every day from day one.
You can bring Kevin back to Ft. Meade to cover the trial and raise awareness of Manning’s case by visiting our brand new online store, and picking up a new Bradley Manning sweatshirt! These soft American Apparel sweatshirts feature the iconic beret and glasses design of David Cran, and the proceeds from your purchase directly fund Kevin Gosztola’s coverage.
Earlier this month, Kevin one of the only two credentialed reporters in the courtroom when the defense announced that Manning may be willing to acknowledge responsibility for leaking some of the information he is charged with releasing to Wikileaks. It made headline news around the world instantly, and Kevin’s reporting was quoted on PBS Frontline, The Guardian, Politico, Ars Technica, Forbes, Wired, CNET and The Atlantic, just to name a few.
It has been extraordinarily expensive to fly Kevin out and pay his expenses to attend each and every pre-trial hearing (one wonders why there were 15,000 journalists at the Democratic National Convention yet none of them can find their way to Fort Meade). But thanks to your generosity and support, Kevin has been a constant presence in the courtroom from the start, reminding the judge, the prosecutors and everyone involved that their actions are being watched and recorded for all the world to see.
We have high hopes for the new store, and will soon be introducing Occupy Supply Registries that give disaster relief workers and activist groups the chance to publicly list the supplies they need – and you the opportunity to fulfill those needs for each group directly. So stay tuned!
Finally, we value not only your support but your incisive feedback as well. If you have any problems, questions or comments, please reach us by email at shop@firedoglake.com or phone at (202) 506-3907.
Thank you so much – we couldn’t do any of this without you.

About FDL Action
David Cran is a frigging genius. He did a lot of the design work in the store and is the talent behind our Bradley Manning gear.
Also keep an eye out because we’re going to be rolling out some pretty cool features that will give our audience more, unique opportunities to support the FDL campaigns and coverage they care about most.
I would like to send a donation but don’t want gear, can we do that somehow?
yes! actually our new store has a donate page within it, and you can select which campaign you would like to donate to.
check it out: http://shop.firedoglake.com/donate.asp (FYI you can get to this page from http://shop.firedoglake.com by clicking the orange DONATE button halfway down the store front)
Argh! Forgot to add — special thanks to Brian, Zach and Dave for doing an AMAZING job pulling the store together for Black Friday.
You guys so rock.
Yep, right now I’m sourcing mold supplies. I don’t know if folks read RF Shunt’s diary about helping Sandy victims yesterday, but it was superb:
http://my.firedoglake.com/rfshunt/2012/11/21/greetings-from-asbury-park/
Marybeth who works for FDL was also up in Brooklyn helping the OccupySandy relief effort last weekend, and she and RF say the same thing: right now everyone is battling mold.
If anyone has any expertise on the subject, let me know. It’s toxic and dangerous.
As I said yesterday I just went through this due to a broken pipe under my sink. The cleaners wore masks and gloves and used plain old bleach. The air is dangerous – very – and they used huge fans to clear it.
I think you can also use hydrogen peroxide. I also think TSP will help, it is not toxic to work with, but it may not be the ultimate tool.
Some of the places with mold cannot and should not be saved. The people who did my work tore out kitchen cabinets, and walls behind the sink and on the other side in the dining room. You can’t leave ANY mold or it will start to grow again.
That is true. It depends what you are trying to work on.
OK, done. Will try to help more, later.
Thank you!!!
Thank you, bgrothus. I really appreciate the support so I can be there to report on Manning’s court martial.
The donate option is a great idea but I can;t get it to work. Insists on selling me the sweatshirt. The orange button leads to a page where we can select the campaign and specify an amount. I entered $20. Then the only button I see is “place order”. Am I missing something obvious? Thanks.
FWIW, I consider the Bradley Manning affair the single most egregious thing done by our Centrist president. Not the most destructive to our country. Just morally the worst of a long list of terrible things.
While I’m logged in, I’ve rehabbed dozens of houses over the years – mold, dry-rot termites, all of it stems ultimately from water getting where it shouldn’t. If the water has gotten into the walls, the only solution is to gut the place. Pull the sheetrock and all the insulation. Dry it with fans, then reinsulate and re-rock it. If salt water got over the electrical receptacles and switches I’d replace those as well. The white Romex should still be fine but any BX or even conduit needs to be looked at carefully. Occurs ot me that Habitat for Humanity, and maybe other groups that bring volunteers together with people well versed in the construction trades are what’s needed for a lot of these houses. I’d volunteer to lead some projects but I live on the side of the country. Good luck to all. Iknow your hearts are in the right place.
