The job approval rating of Congress, while still atrocious, has managed to improve slightly in the last few months according to Gallup. Currently 17% approve of the job Congress is doing and 79% disapprove.

Congress actually hasn’t done much of anything of substance in the past month that should improve the popular image. So it seems the main reason Congress has become slightly more popular is simply that they haven’t actively done things to piss off the electorate recently.
It is a sad statement about how we have been running our legislature that it is least unpopular when it is basically doing nothing.

Baloney.
1. A 42% increase in popularity is not “slightly”
2. A large increase in results from one poll in one month countering an overall long-term downward trend is statistically meaningless.
The American people are beaten down by the corporatocracy and have much lowered expectations. That also explains why the democrats are still relatively popular.
Everyone inside the Beltway has become slightly less unpopular with me since I got rid of my TV and spend little time on the internet.
Avoidance as a coping technique.
The new york time poll has Congress job approval rating also improving by several points
Mass media news has conveyed the impression over the last months that the job situation is improving. The “rise in the approval rating” (slight decline in the disapproval rating) of the farce referred to as the “US Congress” tracks this perceived improvement in the non-rich-person economy.
It’s kind of funny, reading what you wrote. The reasoning appears to be this:
1) There was an enormous spike in the approval rating! 42%! This is not to be belittled!
2) This was just a one month change in an overall negative trend, not to be regarded seriously.
You seem conflicted over there …
The NYTimes poll is characterized by wide swings
CBS News/NY Times 4/13 – 4/17 13
CBS News/NY Times 2/8 – 2/13 10
CBS News/NY Times 1/12 – 1/17 13
CBS News/NY Times 10/19 – 10/24 9
I was commenting on the inaccurate wording first and the wrongful meaning second. I learned multi-tasking from my wife.
Being unpopular bears no penalty for the Congress.
Only goes to prove “You can fool some of the people all of the time.
But keep up the good work Jon. We “want you on that wall, we need you on that wall.”
I never understood the Congress poll. You could hate the things one party is doing in Congress and love the things the other party is doing. How would you respond to the poll?
(Since I hate both major parties my response, should I’m ever asked, is predictable.)
Tell me again the difference between Coke and Pepsi?
Now how many believe in polls to begin with, especially in such a short period? Then there is the issue that is Gallup! Finally, how many believe that good polling still comes from land lines only?
I would rather have a poll in how many Americans want to reduce the fees & benefits (especially) from national elected officials? Though I would not suggest that local officials don’t have the same problem!
