Every day at Occupy Supply we talk with occupations across the country who are doing amazing work. So when we hear that “occupy is dead,” we know that someone is seriously ill-informed.

Occupy Supply was able to buy five new command post tents worth $5000 each for a fraction of that price, but when it came time to decide which occupations got them, we opted to do it in the most democratic way possible:  allow people to nominate occupations based on their activism history, and then let our community decide where they should go.

This is by no means a complete list, but rather represents the actions for which people felt moved to nominate their local occupation.  So if you see a journalist repeating the “occupy is dead” meme, be sure to forward them this list to let them know that reports of Occupy’s demise have been greatly exaggerated.

The 20 occupations receiving the most votes in the semi-final round will proceed to the finals round of voting, which will begin on Thursday February 2 and close at midnight on Saturday the 4th.  In case of a tie, a vote will be taken by Occupy Supply liaisons at the Sunday 3pm liaison webinar meeting.

The 5 occupations  receiving the most votes in the final round will each win a command-post tent with lighting, presentation boards and tables worth $5,000 to support their exceptional community activism.  The tents will be delivered by DADT activist Lt. Dan Choi, with a celebration courtesy of Occupy Supply.

The preliminary round of voting will be open until this Wednesday, February 1 at 12 midnight.

Some occupations have had their encampments evicted or have moved indoors, so we’ll also be awarding laptops with built-in webcams to the top 3 vote-getting occupations that cannot use a tent.

All other semi-finalists will win a $100 gift certificate for supplies from the Occupy Supply store.

It’s worth noting that occupations without a current encampment were much less likely to be nominated.  Moreover, when they were nominated it was usually for actions they took when they did have an encampment. Whether this is because they are less active, or because they have a harder time making the community aware of their activities without an ongoing public symbol, is not known.
