NOTE: An update of this list can be found here.
Although the media has grown bored with the Occupy movement and are declaring it over, OccupySupply has verified the existence of 61 encampments across the country. We are listing them below, along with links to photos and videos that demonstrate what they look like today.
The FDL Membership Program now has 110 liaisons at over 70 occupations across the country who report back to us on the status of their occupations twice each week. That’s how we determine which occupations OccupySupply will send cold weather gear to every day.
OccupySuply shipped more stuff out last week alone than we did in the entire first month, and the demand is only increasing.
So we thought we’d try to drive a stake through the heart of the “Occupy is Dead” narrative by publishing our working list, which is consistently more up-to-date than any I’ve seen. These are occupations with encampments only — there are many, many more vibrant occupations that are doing tremendous community activism despite the lack of an encampment.
» Please consider donating $10 or more to help us continue to meet the demands of the now 70+ occupations we serve with the Occupy Supply fund. As always, 100% of your donations to the fund will go to purchase and distribute the supplies they need to make it through the winter and beyond.

About FDL Action
If we’re mssing any encampments (and we no doubt are), please leave them in the comments or email to members AT firedoglake DOT com.
Looks like Occupy Louisville is still up and running though their permit renewal says no tents
and Occupy Albany also looks to still be encamped (at least for a few more days)
I still think the photo with that article is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking photographs I’ve ever seen.
I’d suggest keeping San Antonio on the list, mentioning their participation in the port action.
Occupy Everett, WA (Twitter: @Occupyeverett). Yesterday their live stream was broadcasting a video of Dorli Rainey giving an excellent presentation on community building.
You might recheck the links for your Occupy list.
I might be wrong that they’ve been #OccupySuppply-d but they are an encampment.
Occupy Asheville (NC)
http://occupyasheville.org/
I didn’t include occupations that were facing eviction — Occupy Ashville, Louisville, San Antonio and Albany among them. Occupy Detroit and St. Louis have moved indoors and probably should be included, but for our purposes we keep them on a separate list because their needs are different.
I’m in Albuquerque for Hanukkah. My sister-in-law says she thinks Occupy Albuquerque is active. Looking at their facebook page and home page, they’ve posted as recently as yesterday and have upcoming events planned, but no indication of an active event. I commented at their facebook page, asking them to get in touch with you if they are indeed active.
I re-posted this list at Progressive Alaska, with the cool igloo pic.
You are amazing, Jane. So are those occupiers in Fairbanks.
Is there a photo or video of what the Occupy Everett encampment looks like? We’d love to include them if we can verify they have tents and are there overnight.
Last time I drove by, Occupy Kansas City (KC) was still there with tents up and trying to March in downtown KC on 12/30.
http://www.kansascity.com/2011/12/16/3323816/occupy-kc-hopes-police-will-waive.html
What happened to Occupy Oakland (CA)?
Thank you Jane et al. OWS is our only hope and you are the OWS in fact.
Hey ET, we’ve been in contact with the Occupy Albuquerque folks. They have meetings and have talked about a future encampment, but to date have not had one yet.
This is not meant to be dismissive of the activism that non-encamped occupy groups are doing. Many are doing amazing things. But our experience is that Occupy is spreading to small towns through encampments, which serve as a powerful symbol that galvanize local progressive groups (RF Shunt has a great diary on that). So we wanted to print that list.
We left off the ones that were threatened with eviction only if we were hearing that they were probably preparing to pull up stakes. Occupy Pittsburgh for example has been threatened, but they are fighting it all the way. Others don’t have the resources and that’s totally understandable. But we wanted this to be a list of encampments that currently plan to be there through the winter.
Someone went down for us over the weekend to take a look and says it’s a mud pit. I’ve been told that many moved to Occupy Berkeley, which may be why that occupation has grown so large.
Any numbers on how many people total camped out I understand numbers go up and down but I trust the Lake more than the Media for a real number.
And thanks for supporting OWS FDL:)
Kansas is one of those I keep getting different messages about. Last I heard they were thinking of calling it quits for the winter, but that could be totally erroneous. When in doubt we put an occupation in the “need more information” category. Would love to hear they plan to stay and put them on the list.
Can we get that front paged pleased?
I’m actively trying to get Hilo on that list, but, I swear it’s like herding cats…! ;-)
We have (tentative) numbers on some of the bigger ones, but in places like Walton OR for instance we only know about it because of one lone local news article that doesn’t list campers.
Also, people tend to rotate when it’s cold, so even if you count 10 people camped out one night, there could be four or five times that cycling through in order to hold the spot. As one occupier said, the encampments really are the biggest billboard they could possibly have, and it really means something to people in the community to see them there. It gives everyone hope.
So even though police are driving past encampments with infrared lights at night trying to count bodies, I don’t know how reliable the number on any given night is going to be when it comes to determining how many people are really camping out.
http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/bastard/2011/12/joe_arpaio_and_mcso_murdered_m.php
Can’t find any mention he was an OWS person in the link but I am glad people are protesting his death nobody should like that and at least some people cared he died.
Thanks I trust your numbers more than the media.
CTuttle I looked and looked for photos of tents! Could not find any. That’s one of our criteria for getting on the list — photos or videos of tents (or at least news reports) taken within the past week.
Occupy Madison is fully a lie.
And your “marriage proposal” story is laughable if you knew the truth. Perhaps you are refering to another couple instead of the FIRST “union” at occupy.
They are no longer a couple!
She says that F@CKUPY is fully a sham and told “him” (I could identify names) that if he continued being involved with it, they were THROUGH.
I have seen her on the street and it is my understanding that is what happened – he chose to come back and she didn’t and he is now telling everyone how “unfair” she is to state her experiences and resulting opinions.
I didn’t get the impression he was an OWS person, they were just angry about the injustice of it.
I worried he was an OWS person I am pleased that OWS seems to care about Immigrant, Vets and Hispanic rights so much from what I see reading this article.
We don’t have an active encampment yet here in Hilo, Honolulu does have a small contingent that survived from the APEC confab… Here’s the livestream that handles all the Isles… Occupy Hawaii…
Left you one downstairs..
If you click the link, that gives you the source for the information:
If you have evidence that the Wisconsin State Journal fabricated their story and invented the marriage proposal, please provide the documentation and we’d be happy to update the link. But I’m not sure “and then they had a big fight” negates their reporting.
OWS is a lie because a couple backed off on marriage? Who cares unless you like gossip news. People break up the story was not a lie apparently they did get together that they later broke up before getting married does not rewrite the past.
As long as Occupy Madison still has people in this weather thats a story. Lets see the Tea baggers get half the people we do in the winter time.
The occupy movement shows just how committed they are to social change by camping in this weather. Your side lacks the commitment and dedication we have, your side lacks the energy that comes with conviction.
Exactly the situation I was refering to – it is a lie that they are getting married.
I know the principals – he goes by “tiny”. They don’t have websites that proclaim their story, so no linky.
But anyone in Madison can verify this should they choose.
I use the handle BADGERBADGER for a reason (yup, I’m in MADISON).
People change their minds all the time about marriage your charge is only true if they never really planned to get married got any proof?
Thanks replied.
Get tape and put in on the net you seem to have internet.
No – its the off-site capuchino/latte committee that withholds decisions from the GA that is the lie.
There are lies to the mayors office, that basic safety needs are going to be met.
It is sad when in a “reality based” community, I get attacked for sharing direct information that is wholly accurate. Misrepresentations have been made to the Mayors office and health department.
I would like to see OM stay, but not abusing homeless so a certain facebook click can proclaim to the world they are the leaders of OCCUPY (they literally state that NY Occupy was based on Wisconsin’s demonstrations in the rotunda).
Sorry, I can back all of this up but won’t link – you can read their web and verify most of this if you carefully read between the lines.
But those of us that have been there know more than those that are not there. We also know more than the latte/cappuccino crowd.
But remember, many on-site are homeless people without any access to health/mental health care and alcohol abuse is not uncommon.
Your dismissiveness tells me you are not really interested in a dialog – go to Madison and learn more.
And if you are one of the latte/cappuccino sippin’ self-proclaimed leaders, shame on you.
Why bother, you would rather catapult lies.
The Occupy Movement is important – why don’t you want to see us get it right in Madison.
It doesn’t say they’re getting married. It says there was a “marriage proposal.”
If you think it’s worthy of a follow-up story, feel free to write that, but from what you’re saying there’s apparently nothing untruthful or inaccurate about the Wisconsin Journal’s reporting, so I don’t see where the “lie” comes in.
Okay enough with the thread hijacking.
I see what side you are on – shame on you.
Wow. So we’ve got that going for us.
$146,000 to cloth occupiers for harsh winter conditions and you’re pissed because she doesn’t agree with your opinion?
Cool story, brah.
Thanks for this update, Jane.
There are more groups still meeting outdoors on a regular basis to hold general assemblies. An example of one is Occupy Harrisonburg, Virginia.
*Banhammer CHOP*
Lulz
I think I read that in a recent study they had found some 146 occupations in California alone, most of which are probably holding regular meetings rather than starting encampents. There are a growing number of occupies across the country. It ain’t going anywhere, even if Homeland Security is forking over billions to raid the big encampments.
I had no idea that the numbers were that large. That’s huge.
Camp Occupy Everett photos: Here and here. Roger that Jane?
Occupy Bellevue but not an encampment that I can find:
“Demonstrators occupy downtown Bellevue” | By NAT LEVY, Bellevue Reporter Staff Writer | December 19, 2011 · Updated 3:46 PM
“Bellevue Square Protest Targets Kemper Freeman” | By Venice Buhain | December 19, 2011
Yeah, Sacto opened on youtube Reno movie, then to a Jon Walker posting of Nov 9.
Heck of a list tho, thanks Mz. Hamsher and all for what you folks are doing . . . Occupy ain’t dead, it’s just pining for the fjords . . . ;-)
Hell, it’s alive and kicking . . . only the MSM and PTB want it dead, another false meme they run down on we the people.
Oakland’s been well documented, it was raided, emptied, and then after clearing out the supplies and such there (labeled garbage and such by the media) the park turned on sprinklers to flood the place and dissuade reoccupation . . . I’ll concur, many went to Berkeley after that . . . don’t know the present status of either, thought both have FB pages like Sacto does?
I really like this listing you put up, great visuals so to speak that Occupy is still alive and kicking, even growing, despite the repression on many of the encampments.
N Badger is just a pain in the ass, I’d troll scroll that loon every time. ;-)
Yes it’s an Michael Martin Murphey song playing on an international scale.
Wow, interesting . . . should have known that would be a counter tactic . . . still, surprised to hear of it . . . heh, surveillance . . . big biz for the 1%, ain’t it.
Awesome Mzchief! I will add OccupyEverett!
Any idea what the date of the photos is?
Had not heard of this, thanks . . . how tragic and sick . . . bless Marty and his family and friends.
It’s a phookin mess down there . . . damn heartless fascist bastids.
We went to a lot of trouble to provide those links for that reason. If you want to make yourself feel good, just click on those links and watch the parade of videos and photos. Occupy is very much alive.
Had to read thru all comments and yours, twice, to get it.
That’s funny shit hoss . . . ;-)
So Jane, if you’re still here, we’ve got a user in an earlier thread who is making comments that I find concerning, to say the least. Take a look at the comments in the 70s and 80s. If you have this person’s contact info it might be a good idea to reach out.
Jane was doin’ the bull dance, feelin’ the flow.
On edit – whoever gets that reference wins the internet today.
“There’s a hoot owl outside our windows, been 1 or 17 weeks now . . ”
Loosely reworded for impact . . . ;-)
Agreed!
So good to see Occupy is alive and well.
Bah! Thanks for flagging that Larue. They’re all fixed now.
Oops. You missed Occupy Salt Lake City
Bless ya ma’am, n all you and staff do for us readers . . .
Here’s a link to the Occupy Sac movement, interesting legal outcomes for those arrested.
They Overwhelmed City Of Sac Legal Staff, County DA Jan Scully Dropped Charges Long Ago.
Cres is a local major player, Senator Mary Mac and Sac John know of him and know him . . . he’s done great work here in this burg. ;-)
Jane, I also didn’t notice OccupyDC on your list. Did they get evicted from MacPherson Square?
Occupy Sac link still opens up on a movie at youtube for Occupy Reno.
As far as I know, Occupy Sac no longer encamps, as of two weeks or so or more ago.
They ARE doing good local things in terms of event protests and such.
Here’s Their FB Link, But Ya Gotta Click Top Right, On “Everyone, Most Recent” For Current Page.
I believe there is still a camp up in Las Cruces, New Mexico
Responding to karenb way upthread:
Occupy Oakland’s encampment was raided and dismantled for the second time back in November. Since then, City Hall has been watering the plaza and has turned it into a muddy pond (likely killing the historic oak tree). They are paying a private security team $300K to keep us from re-establishing a camp as well. We’ve tried to keep a presence there via overnight “vigils” but the Mayor and the police change their tactics almost daily and are selectively enforcing various laws in an ever-more-ridiculous manner. A month ago they said we could stay there as long we didn’t pitch tents or sleep; the past week there have been several arrests of people who set up food tables as well as the Interfaith group who set up an umbrella. They are attempting to keep us from assembling there for anything more than a GA. Here’s an article about the Umbrella Insurrection.
Thanks Carol for the bigger story, it was your diaries I guess I was thinking of when I recounted what I did above.
Bless ya for your efforts ma’am, keep them reports coming in!
I’m thrilled by the number of encampments. Behind those encampments and the non-camping Occupys and the people on the streets and the people beeping horns, you’ve got a freakin’ movement people.
And we are not going anywhere.
http://my.firedoglake.com/jamesd4/
Thanks to you, too, Larue. Jane is right about some of the campers going to Berkeley; haven’t been over to Occupy Berkeley myself lately but that’s what I have heard. Somehow we managed to get tens of thousands to do the port shutdown, so nobody has gone very far even though we are not visible.
JANE – thank you for this, it is really encouraging to see this long list of places where the encampments are still hanging in there – no doubt that Occupy Supply has helped that effort a great deal.
I was trying to find pics of their current encampment & couldn’t locate them. Do you have any?
It’s listed as Occupy K Street, to distinguish it from Freedom Plaza.
YGM.
Fantasitc! There does indeed seem to be an occupy las cruces:
http://www.kfoxtv.com/photo/news/occupy-las-cruces-protestors/pJc3t/
Occupy Asheville may be evicted next year, but they will surely be there through December at least. I will try to get some pictures tomorrow.
thanks for all you do, Jane!
Please make sure to add Occupy Minneapolis.

Occupy Bellingham in Bellingham, WA. On the page you’ll find lots of information about the camp and actions, especially our recent occupation of the train tracks downtown to oppose the proposed coal train.
Here’s a Bellingham Herald Article about the beginning of the camp out of Occupy Bellingham at the end of October.
Another clipping to link to both OccupyDC encampments (McPherson Square AND Freedom Plaza):
DC and Baltimore Occupations build solidarity with help of major church congregation in Baltimore.

The DC occupiers are quite accomplished at generating blog & print coverage in the local paper, which happens to be WaPo.
Other examples of recent local DC coverage of the DC occupiers:
this morning (Dec. 20): a few occupiers among eleven arrested at White House protesting unconstitutional indefinite detention provisions of Defense appropriations bill.
same (with photos and Tweets): The Buzz.
yesterday afternoon (Dec. 19): three of four hunger strikers from OccupyDC end their fasts.
this morning (Dec. 20): fourth hunger striker from OccupyDC continues fasting.
FYI I’ve been noticing paid-for, smack-talk activities (here, here, here) replicated on Twitter. Check out the editing job on the video. I didn’t buy it as I followed your action at the rail yards.
Another sample set in response to last Saturday: here, here, here.
Occupy Northampton is still going: http://www.wwlp.com/dpp/news/local/hampshire/occupy-protests-continue-in-northampton
Dropped off the Occupy Sac supplies yesterday; hope to have a diary tomorrow
Lots of smiles and thanks from the occupiers
To be continued …
Jane, you are fabulous. That is all.
I’m kind of dense tonight. I am not able to figure out what you are saying. Could you explain it more to me?
I was being terse but I did not want to make the observations without linking the evidence. What I was trying to say is that I detected Breitbart talking points created and circulated on Twitter via VictoriaTaft and KPAM860 to try to make Occupy Bellingham look like a bunch of hoodlums (or pick any other negative word you can think of) regarding the rail yard action.
Occupy Las Crucesis still going.
Occupy Jacksonville (Florida) is still going strong!

There are Occupiers at Occupy Everett but Snohomish County officials want the Occupiers to decamp by the end of their permit, Sat. Dec. 31, 2011 (video time points 7:48 – 14:31). Here is a brief discussion of the issues the County policies present to citizens and how Occupiers may like to see them addressed (video time points 14:32 – 19:09).

“Occupy Eugene Responds to Eviction by City Council” | OccupyEugeneMedia.Org | shaskins, December 20, 2011
Thanks so much.
I didn’t find any photos or videos of the current Occupy Bellingham encampment. That’s what we need (or an article somewhere testifying to the existence of tents and overnight sleepers, written in the pat week) to include it on the list.
Thanks so much. Please list links to photos or videos of the Occupy Jackson tent city from the past week and we’ll be happy to include it on the list, and get them supplies.
Fantastic! will include Occupy Northampton.
DC occupations are listed under both Occupy K Street and Occupy Freedom Plaza.
FYI, you have the wrong link for Occupy Sacramento (the link is for Occupy Reno). You can use our website (http://OccupySac.com/) or fb (http://www.facebook.com/OccupySacramento) if you want.

You guys forgot Occupy Reno!! We’ve had a camp for almost two months and received supplies from occupysupply last week!
As one of the twelve “hoodlums” arrested, please know that my record was so clean I didn’t even have a traffic violation on my record. I am quite proud to have been arrested with these fine people who have been judged on what criteria…their appearance? Occupy Bellingham has been going quite strong since October 28, and I’m told is one of the most scenic camps.
Jane I estimate the date of the photos to be Dec. 3 during the “Rockyup Everett” event when Dorli spoke.
Clearly you were allowed to make bail. :-) Your civil disobedience was not in vain. I was monitoring the #BhamOccupy video and audio stream (“live stream”) as you were demonstrating and getting arrested and brought you a witness swarm. The gal behind the camera that day did a great job of running the stream and explaining what your action was about and why. More people watching and listening now know what King Coal has planned for Bellingham, WA. Good on you all, Teewacket.
Here are some photos of your tents at Occupy Bellingham from this past November:
“Occupy Northwest – Bellingham and Tacoma” | Truthout.Org | by: David Bacon, Wednesday 9 November 2011
I can’t find any recent photos or articles. Our local paper tends to ignore us. Our local movement hasn’t seen any need to do new photos of the camp. I drive by it every day. (I’m too old and sick to camp out.) Can I send a picture from my cell phone to somewhere to verify we exist?
You can send it to the address Jane gives here.
Occupy Jacksonville is camped in front of City Hall. We are not allowed to sleep, so we take shifts. We’ve been Occupying since Nov. 5th. We are currently working on Community Gardening within the city limits, and we just formed a foreclosure group. We’ve had a number of successful protests, we’ve influenced our local city council on delaying bad business bills, and we recently had Ms. Charney, a foreclosure attorney speak to us about the terrible state of foreclosures within our city. She is the attorney in this article in Rolling Stone: http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/matt-taibbi-courts-helping-banks-screw-over-homeowners-20101110.
Occupy Jacksonville has protested the Jacksonville Transporation Authority’s increase on bus fares for bus riders, including those with disabilities. We lobbied against our City Council’s plan to pay Chase bank 1.25 million dollars to locate just 250 jobs. We have sent a delegation to the Florida’s Peoples Convention in Orlando to draft proposals to the Legislature. Also we have had numerous teach-ins (homelessness, financial history, and organic gardening). We are a growing force for reform and change in our city!
Video: “Occupy Jax advised by foreclosure attorney” (Jacksonville City Hall Camp GA on 12/14/11) April Charney also with Jacksonville Area Legal Aid.
Portland, Oregon has been doing a micro-Occupation on the sidewalk in front of the city hall since Dec. 4, now nearing 3 weeks.
yeah, but since I wrote that comment I’ve found out my phone isn’t working to take pictures anymore.
So what I’m going to do is go to the GA this Friday and ask that we post new pictures of the Occupation Camp on a weekly basis.
You guys missed us. We’ve been fighting down here since October 15. We were the first occupation to form a non-for-profit with our General Assembly as it’s board of directors, and we just occupied our first office building. We will be in this building for at least a year. Check us out. http://www.occupyms.org
Welcome willowfairypdx.
I noticed Occupy Portland’s post, “Liveblog: LIVE FROM EUGENE on Anti-Eviction Action Night” (PortlandOccupier.Org, Dec. 22, 2011) and the reference to the article by Alan Pittman in the Eugene Weekly (“Treesit Suit Settles,” June 20, 2002). I do see folks are on eviction watch. Good.
You’ve got yourselves an office! That’s awesome and congratulations!
Photos of tents and Occupiers at Occupy Delaware, Spencer Plaza, Wilmington, DE are in “A day in pictures” (OccupyDelaware.Org, by Jen, Dec. 12, 2011; hat tip ghostof911 for spotting them).
Did Occupy Dover, DE tents come and go from Legislative Mall, Dover, DE?
