The public’s ranking of the honesty and ethics of members of Congress is at the lowest level it has ever been according to Gallup’s polling. While Congress has never been looked on too kindly, the level of distrust the American people now feel towards members of Congress is unprecedented.
Just how bad is the American people’s opinion of members of Congress right now? It was the lowest of any of the professions Gallup polled. Congress now ranks just slightly below lobbyists, which come in a close second to last.
![Please tell me how you would rate the honesty and ethical standards of people in these different fields -- very high, high, average, low, or very low? How about -- [RANDOM ORDER]?](http://sas-origin.onstreammedia.com/origin/gallupinc/GallupSpaces/Production/Cms/POLL/v2jehfobruidwyxwqjrijw.gif)
These are not the numbers of a democracy that is having some minor temporary problems. These are the numbers of a country whose governance is in serious trouble, one that needs aggressive and far reaching political reforms.

About FDL Action
Thanks Jon, very interesting stuff.
Democracy??
What’s this “democracy” you speak of?? Sounds like something interesting. Although anything would be a step up from our current fascist system.
Oh come now Jon. They are seen as part of the same group. The difference is down in the noise. Your headline is misleading.
Pointless to make these kinds of comparisons, IMO. Liars are liars are liars. Liars by omission are liars. Liars by obfuscation are liars. Spinners are liars. PR people are liars. Liars are the most destructive threat to civilized living. Lies facilitate almost every conceivable evil deed. We all need to stop making excuses for liars. We need to condemn, shun, and, if possible, punish them.
Democracy has been exchanged for an advertising agency. It’s member/employees will lie, cheat and steal, and say or do anything they can in order to keep their paychecks. They have, like banksters, perfected the art of getting paid for not working for a living. If they were all graded on the efficacy of their representatiion duties, they would all fail.
GOVERNANCE?????????????????????????????????
What in the world do you mean???????????????
Governance is what the oligarchs are talking about in Europe.
The New World Order, when the Banks run the world, and governments no longer have a say in anything, and sovreignty has been subbordinated to
to the supply of money from Lord Rothschild and the empirical lords of
financial wizardry.
Please don’t impose “governance” upon the USA. We still have the Constitution and the Congress and the Administration are not following the principles of the Constitution. Denounce them, and write about how we can
get back to sanity, please thrown the idea of the US having “governance” into your trash can. We are better than that, inspite of what eveyone is saying about the passive baby boomers and the “lost generation”. When the chips are down, the cartels will choke on their own vomit.
Ahem- cough cough
Top of the list- NURSES
Michael Cavlan RN
Candidate US Senate 2012
Minnesota Open Progressives
Maybe the phrase “Less trusted than stockbrokers” should be chiseled into the Capitol.
Al Franken wrote the book, “Lying Liars and The Liars That Tell Them” and became a Congressional Lying Liar himself.
Something bad happens to people when they become immersed in the company of others (Congress) who are craven lying liars and craven lying lobbyists.
Instead of doing as they intended – things that are good, they come up with things that (they convince themselves) aren’t that bad – but really are that bad.
Like HCR, Warmongering, Tax Cuts, Privatization, Outsourcing, MIC Contracting, Subsidies, etc.
So your hope is to go from the top to the bottom? :)
Good luck and God bless.
Yeah, if there was anyone that I thought might not turn into a corporatist, it was Franken.
Turns out he just wrote those books to make money. Not that he believed in them.
And the book you speak of is quite good, I’ll give him that. I especially liked the “comic book section” of it where he mocks the chickenhawks. Funny stuff.
Note that Journalists have less than Cronkite numbers these days.
Now THAT’s funny stuff too!!! LOL!
Why WOULD anyone want to go from top to bottom??? LOL
Gotta admit, I’m so slow that went over my head at first. Duh.
I read two of Franken’s books. Anyone who read them should be very disappointed in him. Plus it turned out he’s a militant Israel Uber Alles AIPAC dick.
Let’s encourage all the overworked underpaid Nurses to go into politics then. “If good Men will not come to the service of their country, others will” John Adams. It’s getting critical, I’ll vote for a nurse to run the country before I vote for a (in order of most offensive record of governance 1. An Actor, 2. A guy you want to share a beer with, 3. A Republican, 4. A Democrat, 5. A Christian rightist/Hatemonger. Note O fits into first category.
Awesome. Dead solid perfect.
When one ranks BELOW car salesmen and telemarketers, one has a real credibility problem. I’ll bet our legislaturds lay awake at night worrying about this. NOT!
But I DO! And I’d bet that our founding fathers are rolling over in their graves.
New lovers excluded, I’m sure you meant to say lol.
I said this last week. I long for the good ol’ days of the Wild Wild West. NOt the TV show. Back then, ifn you were a scalawag, crooked politician, or a horse thief, they gave you a fair trial and hanged you. Usually the same day. THAT kind of swift justice tends to dissuade that type of illegal behavior.
It also tends to make mistakes and hang an innocent person.
I’m of the mind “I’d rather 1000 guilty go free than 1 innocent be wrongly imprisoned, or hung, or whatever.” I think one of the founding fathers originated something close to that quote.
How come scientists weren’t on the list?
It was a scientific poll.
Then each of the 1000 can go on to kill another innocent. Do the math. /s Reminds me that when Solomon said he’d split the baby, he actually thought that was a good solution.
Congresswoman Susan Davis came to speak at Occupy SD for Human Rights Day and was pretty much ignored by the people who were present. There were four television cameras and loudspeakers and a small crowd of polite people who were willing to listen and occasionally clap half-heartedly but the rest just talked amongst themselves. It was a little jarring to watch. The people don’t want to hear from congress any more. We have heard enough.
What do you tell your kids about hanging with the wrong crowd. Don’t do it!
Congress innocent?
Where are lab rats on the list?
Also the third.
You are so right. Fanken, Kucinich etc have all succumbed to the lure of corrupt politics. So sad because they were the ones for which we had hope… we thought they were different.
What did you expect? Look how low the journalism numbers are! That’s another big problem this country has – of course to confront it we would have to have a professional mainstream news media and all we are left with is entertainers and some dedicated bloggers…
