Progressive is the Most Positively Viewed Political Label in America

By: Jon Walker Thursday December 29, 2011 10:07 am

According to Pew Research “progressive” is now the most positively viewed political term in America. It is viewed more favorably than Capitalism, Liberal or Conservative. From Pew: From a purely PR perspective this is a real coup for the modern so called “progressive movement.” In a relatively short period of time it has given people [...]

Occupy Supply State of the Occupation: 65 Encampments on 12/28/2011

By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday December 28, 2011 10:04 am

Not much change to our list of full time encampments this week. We go from 67 to 66 as Occupy Bellingham moves to the “threatened with eviction” list, but since the rash of raids on the 23rd, there hasn’t been much action. (Homeland Security must be giving staff the week off for the holidays.)

Occupy Supply Thanks Occupy Memphis

By: Jane Hamsher Sunday December 25, 2011 12:28 pm

We got a nice note from one of the Occupy Memphis chefs after liaison Gordon G. informed them that Occupy Supply would be providing food for holiday dinner:

A BIG THANK YOU

To Firedoglake for the Costco gift card I was just informed of… This is great news since I was sweating how I was going to make $24.00 stretch till Mondays G.A. Now we will be able to have a nice Holiday dinner. Everybody yell THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

Our thanks go out to all of the Memphis occupiers who are out there in the cold making a stand on behalf of all of us. It’s an honor to be able to help in any way we can.

Happy Holidays to FDL and Occupy Supply From Occupy Harrisburg

By: Jane Hamsher Sunday December 25, 2011 11:27 am

Our thanks go out to Chris, Jose, Woody and all of the campers at Occupy Harrisburg who persevere despite the obstacles, where others have not been able to do so.  Your courage and determination to stick it out serve as a constant symbol of hope for everyone who sees you there on a daily basis,  an enduring reminder of the desperate need for change.  Homeland Security and all of their billions have not been able to uproot you.  We owe a sincere debt of gratitude  to you and all of the other occupiers for the commitment, vision and leadership you are providing in these difficult times.  You are an inspiration to us all.

A Merry Occupy Christmas From Occupy Boise

By: Jane Hamsher Sunday December 25, 2011 8:55 am

Katie F. is the FDL member liaison to Occupy Boise. She is one over 110 liaisons who are helping OccupySupply to provide holiday meals today to occupations across the country. Yesterday the local Channel 6 news was at the Boise encampment reporting on 10 die-hard occupiers who will be there over Christmas. Katie happened to be down there and was also interviewed for the segment

It’s 19 degrees today in Boise.  And yes, the guy in the photo with the holes in his clogs is one of those receiving boots for Christmas that will keep his feet warm in temperatures to -20 degrees. I’m so thankful for big hearts and hopeful spirits of the FDL community who are making that possible.

State of the Occupation: 11 Encampments Threatened With Eviction

By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday December 21, 2011 10:05 am

Yesterday we published a list of 61 active occupation encampments across the country that are planning to be there through the winter. People were helpful in the comments in identifying 5 more. One received and eviction notice and moves to today’s list of 9 occupations facing eviction from the city. That brings the total number of encampments we’ve been able to document in the past week that are planning to be there through the winter to 65.

List of Active Occupy Encampments Across the Country – Now at 61

By: Jane Hamsher Tuesday December 20, 2011 10:14 am

So we thought we’d try to drive a stake through the heart of the “Occupy is Dead” narrative by publishing our working list, which is consistently more up-to-date than any I’ve seen. These are occupations with encampments only — there are many, many more vibrant occupations that are doing tremendous community activism despite the lack of an encampment.
