Whenever I’m watching the news one of the things I notice is there simply aren’t enough voices for rich elites and their children on television. I worry that I won’t hear about things from the perspective of millionaires with close ties to Wall Street (except on CNBC, Fox Business, Bloomberg TV, Fox News, CNN, etc…).

Thankfully NBC is taking extraordinary steps to rectify this problem by hiring Chelsea Clinton to be a correspondent, despite the fact that she has no professional experience as a journalist or TV producer. From the New York Times:

NBC announced Monday that it has hired Chelsea Clinton to become a full-time special correspondent for NBC News.

The appointment was immediate. Ms. Clinton will begin work on stories that NBC expects to use as part of its “Making a Difference” series, which runs on “NBC Nightly News,” said Steve Capus, president of NBC News.

Clinton made her money working for one of the world’s largest hedge fund companies and is married to a former Goldman Sachs investment banker. Now finally the American people will be able to hear the incredibly underrepresented perspective of a Wall Street millionaire on broadcast news.

No wonder our financial/political system has become so tilted to the 1 percent. Our media “watchdogs” are chosen from the small group of elites who most benefited from that system.
