There have been some pretty shameless attempts on the part of Democratic operatives to co-opt the energy surrounding #OccupyWallStreet, but perhaps none more ribald than this email sent out by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee collecting petition signatures pretending to support them.

While hundreds are being arrested across the country protesting the lawlessness of banks that are robbing the country and destroying the economy,  the head of the Democratic Party — President Barack Obama — says that the banks did nothing illegal.

As Dday notes, “Apparently forging and fabricating documents to prove ownership of homes that are subsequently stolen from borrowers is now a loophole.”

The notion that Obama has any interest in bring the banks to justice any time soon, while “wooing” them (NY Times) for campaign contributions, is risible.

The only image of Obama I saw at #OccupyDC last week was one pairing him with George Bush and calling them war criminals.  And House Democrats “fighting back” apparently means passing Obama’s “jobs” plan to ship over 200,000 more overseas with the NAFTA-style Korea, Panama and Columbia free trade agreements this week — which could earn them primary challenges from labor.

But it would really be gilding the lily to do anything other than let the email speak for itself:

I guess the DCCC hasn’t seen what I’ve seen when I’ve been down @the encampment–there r just as many (if not more!) anti-Obama & anti-Democratic Party signs, snipes & sentiments as there are anti-Republican.

Back in the 60s & 70s we called this “Co-opting.” It didn’t work then & it ain’t going to work now!
