This is just weird. Amanda Terkel of the Huffington Post:
Obama For America’s New Mexico Director Sends Out Email Bashing ‘Firebagger Lefty Blogosphere’
The Obama campaign’s point person in New Mexico recently sent an email to supporters defending the president’s position on the debt deal and bashing the “Firebagger Lefty blogosphere,” including the Nobel Prize winning New York Times columnist Paul Krugman.
The article quotes an email sent out by the Obama for America (OFA) New Mexico State Director Ray Sandoval to their email list:
Paul Krugman is a political rookie. At least he is when compared to President Obama. That’s why he unleashed a screed as soon as word came about the debt ceiling compromise between President Obama and Congressional leaders – to, you know, avert an economic 9/11. Joining the ideologue spheres’ pure, fanatic, indomitable hysteria, Krugman declares the deal a disaster – both political and economic – of course providing no evidence for the latter, which I find curious for this Nobel winning economist. He rides the coattails of the simplistic argument that spending cuts – any spending cuts – are bad for a fragile economy, ignoring wholeheartedly his own revious cheerleading for cutting, say, defense spending. But that was back in the day – all the way back in April of this year. [...]
No, the loudest screeching noise you hear coming from Krugman and the ideologue Left is, of course, Medicare. Oh, no, the President is agreeing to a Medicare trigger!!! Oh noes!!! Everybody freak out right now! But let’s look at the deal again, shall we? [...]
Now let’s get to the fun part: the triggers. The more than half-a-trillion in defense and security spending cut “trigger” for the Republicans will hardly earn a mention on the Firebagger Lefty blogosphere. Hell, it’s a trigger supposedly for the Republicans, and of course, there’s always It’sNotEnough-ism to cover it.
I’m not sure what to make of this. Sandoval’s dismissive response to Terkel indicates that this wasn’t an “oops” moment, and that OFA believes this is a sound political strategy.
Atrios says, “politicians gotta do what they gotta do and if attacking the Jane Hamshers Of The Left and KRGTHULU is the way to get money, love, and votes, then more power to them….If.”
I totally agree, if they’re doing this because they think it’s a good campaign strategy, do what you have to do. The qualifier, of course, is the if.
The California Democratic Party just refused to renew the charter of the largest caucus in the party, the Progressive Caucus, after they passed a resolution calling for a primary challenge to Obama in 2012. So this isn’t an isolated incident. It’s clear that the the Democrats want to marginalize liberals in 2012 for basically promoting the same values and saying the same things we’ve said during every presidency since time immemorial.
But if this is a brilliant political strategy on the part of OFA, someone is going to have to explain it to me. I know the goal is to attract the much-prized Independent for 2012. But who do they think is keeping Obama’s poll numbers afloat?
Paul Krugman is a Nobel prize winning New York Times columnist who consistently sits at the top of every poll of “most influential liberals.”
What exactly does OFA think they stand to gain by ridiculing Krugman as a “political rookie,” a hysterical “fanatic” and an “idealogue”? Do they think they hold so much sway with liberals that they can discredit Krugman and thus neutralize his criticism?
This smacks more of narcissism and personal vendetta than any sound political “strategy.”

About FDL Action
Well, the California Democratic Party refused to renew the charter of the Progressive Caucus, not the DNC. And what I got from the Terkel article is that the NM OfA guy linked to a blogpost that had the comments on Krugman, FDL, et al.
Or, you know, don’t.
I’ve been saying for ever that OFA is gutting the Dem apparatus on the ground, and does not care on whit what is left in it’s place after November 2012.
That’s why I stay in the CO Dems and caucus like a bastard; to remind the folks of that, and it’s OUR territory and OUR goals and priorities, not some machine for Obama to wreck for his own purpose.
Well, I guess the small piece of good news is that they’ll be gone after 2012. [OFA, that is. Here's hoping the CO Dems survive, despite OFA's "best" efforts. Good luck to you.]
I wouldn’t count on OFA vanishing after 2012. I can easily see it remaining around as the in-place support structure for the next Obama-like candidate of the Wall Street/corporate elites. Perhaps merging with Third Way?
Thanks, I updated to reflect the CDP rather than the DNC.
I’ve seen the email. It doesn’t just provide a link — the entire article with the above text is included.
The “Oh noes!!!” is certainly a hallmark of professionalism and integrity in communication.
I know that I, for one, would pay very close attention to any opinions put forward by someone so clearly unbiased and focused on delineating the differing viewpoints on this matter.
OK, actually, no, I would fucking take their X-Box away and send them to bed without dinner so they could think about what they’ve done.
I regard this as good news for FDL. It means we (or more to the point, Jane) are having a real impact. Who’d uv thunk it? Nice to be in Paul’s company as well.
By the way, unlike a lot of other Nobel winners, who got there by being clever and good (and I think this includes Joe Stiglitz), Krugman got there by being highly original. It’s a gift, like being a great poet or a great composer. A lot of people are good, but only a handful are great. Paul is one of the greats.
“to, you know, avert an economic 9/11.”
Oh great…. more use of 9/11. This time by Democrats to support accepting pre-cave corporate friendly bipartisan compromises.
Did I ever mention that I view 9/11 as a failure by our gov’t to keep us safe?
More Genius to come.

Ironic. If ever there was a political rookie, it’s Barak “The Beav” Obama.
I can’t imagine that the CDP would have done it without the DNC’s/OFA’s approval — or on the DNC’s/OFA’s orders. Why else would they so stupidly cut off the biggest wing of the state party?
As for Sandoval’s e-mail: Wow. It’s as if the most chauvinistically brain-dead Obama Booster Club apologist camped out in the Daily Kos diaries was given access to Sandoval’s computer. Booster Clubbers hold that Anyone who effectively exposes the lameness of the actions of the Dear Leader must be discredited, even if one has to lie like a rug to attempt it.
Sandoval, dude, let’s set aside the fact that you somehow think attacking and insulting the intelligence of the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party is going to win back the indies. The very attack you’re trying to make is ridiculous on its face. As anyone who has been following current events for more than six months likely knows, Professor Krugman’s advised both Republican and Democratic presidents for decades, so this “political rookie” bullshit won’t fly with anyone you’re trying to reach.
Let’s see…. Nobel Prize Winning Economist or Nobel Peace Prize winning hypocrite and hapless putz or crafty quisling (take your pick)… I thik I’ll go with Professor Krugman, thank you.
I’d sure like to see some enterprising graphic artists take that damn “Morning in America” Obama logo and transform it: perhaps with Gulf oil dripping down it; perhaps with a “for sale” sign out in front.
I dunno. I’m sure there are smarter minds than mine out there, but every time I now see than phony, “hope-y” logo, I want to scream.
The “political rookie” is Obama. Just look at his poll numbers and the drastic plung among progressives. They think that running on a platform of raising taxes and cutting social security and medicare is a smart strategy. Either position has historically been the kiss of death. I live here in the pivitol state of Florida and I am a progressive. If Rick Perry is the nominee, Texas will surley go to him. If Obama carries NY and California, Florida becomes critical. I, for one, don’t plan on voting for Obama. I hope he can find a couple independents down here, where unemployment is 10% and mortage forclosures are thrid worst in the US, to make up for my vote. Good luck with that.
Sandoval is full of shit. He must be hiring interns with two years of university Poli Sci under the belt or something. The point about Krugman’s not having data to back up his claim doesn’t even rise to the level of ludicrous. A high school student with a half term in macro could do the calculation on the back of an envelope.
If Obama wants to run against the Democratic party, I suppose that’s his privilege. But it is going to be a lonely convention in Charlotte, especially after B of A goes down, thanks to his masterful shepherding of the banking crisis.
To be clear, Sandoval forwarded a blog post – so, while he presumably aggressively agrees with the quote above, they are not his words.
I must admit, it does make me stand a little taller (in MO, that means a clearer target) to be labeled as wacky and naive as Jane and the Professor.
It’s so great to see that OFA is having to make silly off-target attacks on one of the most influential economists of our time, because this economist does not lie or misrepresent the weakness of Obama’s economic management to date.
OFA is a joke.
Looks like we’re already at Phase Three. Next comes the punitive IRS audits and surveillance.
Gee whiz, Jane, wouldja stop being so f*cking r*tarded already? You’re just such a sanctimonious purist that I think you should be drug tested immediately, you DFH firebagger, you!
Well, well, and well done, Jane!
Guess you (and perhaps the rest of us) are getting under Barry Zero’s notoriously thin skin and wounding his very delicate ego. Guess Obama is looking for more love from his real constituents. No, no, I’m not referring to “Obamabots,” nor the Tea Party. Nopey, Hopey be lookin’ for da love from da man… his rich ‘n powerful overlords, for whom he so happily carries water.
Onwards, citizens, to the barricades! Job well done!
Well you can’t buy this type of advertising Jane and I can hardly wait to go over to bj and read the ranting. Who knows my be the hits to FDL site will go up along with membership.
I figure Obama is demonizing the liberals prior to rounding them up. National security don’t you know.
Well, that does it for me.
Like some/many/most on here, I think Obama is an absolute fail and I have at least promised myself that I would not vote for the man in 2012.
But . . . . . the lesser of two evils argument is–was–still at play with me. And yes, I know it’s stupid and self-defeating, but then again it’s an emotional play.
Whatever progressive 3rd party is on the ticket here in Iowa will get my vote in 2012.
If Ron Paul is the nominee of the goppers, I might consider him.
No Obama for me, don’t care if Bachmann or Perry is the nominee.
Also it really should be emphasized publicly that OFA and the Democratic Party mainstream or status quo is delineating so clearly between itself and “lefties”.
When it comes to election 2012, we need to have these entities on the record distancing themselves from “lefties” to counteract their lying claims that they really do represent “lefties”. Hopefully this will marginally depress Obama’s base voter turnout and that of the Democrats as well, none of whom deserve to receive a single “lefty” vote ever again.
I don’t know how Jane feels about the phrase “We Are All Firebaggers Now,” but if okay, it would be great to see Krugman sporting a t-shirt with it.

Interesting. I thought we’d get a “I just sent the link, I didn’t know what was in it” excuse.
Wasn’t it obvious right after the 2008 election that the national Dem apparatus was being subsumed by Obama’s cult? The whole damn national party was turned into Obama’s personal glory vehicle. And here the pros thought Obama was advancing the (then) Democratic advantage. I’d love to hear what they think now. In 2008, people were pronouncing the Republicans dead and the Democrats triumphant for at least a generation. Didn’t even take two years to see the cracks in the facade. The man’s a wonder, for sure. Who would have guessed he could turn that advantage back to the Republicans so fast?
So true;)
It does sound more angry than dismissive. What stage of the fight is that? First they ignore you…
I hate to say it, but this strategy seems to be working just fine, at least on some level. There’s a loud group of people who think you “firebaggers” need to STFU and support your president, and stop being so ridiculous about holding Democrats responsible and expecting them to hold to traditional Democratic Party values. I ran afoul of a group like that last week and they considered me a “troll” for saying that Obama isn’t a progressive and doesn’t hold or fight for any values beyond compromising for its own sake, and attaching his name to foregone conclusions.
I don’t think those people represent any electoral GOTV-style influence, but I’m half-sure Obama prints out their emails and hugs them in bed as he goes to sleep.
Well, the people I know who have been active progressives in the NMDP (and that is most of the people who are active in the party) are putting up a strong fight to hold the Party accountable for Democratic values. We have not left the Party despite the fact that the Party is not able to hold Democratic candidates (or moreso Democratic elected officials) to the values we support.
I don’t know what will happen, but however the OFA concocted the e-mail, I can say that I did not appreciate the tone of it when I read it, “please, please.” While I am not ashamed to be called a “Firebagger” by anyone, it does not seem to be “the way forward” to a 2012 Obama (Democratic?) Victory.
Why the Teabaggers are allowed to toe (yes) the country into a ditch while the progressives are endlessly vilified by those who we might like to call our friends not to mention the media and everyone else with an axe to grind, I will never understand. I mean, who is left (huh) when we leave them holding the bag they were so hoping to hand off. . .to whom????
When did Paul join the Lake?
Stop making excuses for these losers. Enough. Are we all masochists? We progressives allow this horrid administration to do whatever they want. Aren’t you tired of it? What kind of record does King Obama have to run on anyway? Don’t ask, don’t tell…is there anything else?
Independents will never follow Obama anyway because Obama has no balls. This is obvious.
I don’t think the CDP needs any help being Democratic hacks.
Is it just a coincidence that I keep sounding out “OFA” as “Ofay?”
Marginalizing “Krugman & the Firebaggers” as a campaign strategy might be ill-advised. (However, “Krugman & the Firebaggers” sounds like a good name for a rock band. Anyone up for booking a gig at the Democratic National Convention in NC? Big bank of Marshalls turned up to Eleven? Just sayin’…)
Obama is not a stupid man, whatever his other defects. Although I highly doubt that he has ever read FDL (but one never knows do one?), the people on his staff who obviously do see that the site has real intellectual firepower, from people who’ve been around more than one block in their lives. It’s got to be a bit unsettling to see people like that look down on you.
Obama single-handedly brought Republicans back to life.
Proud liberal firebagger, here, and continually baffled by the Obushma campaigns penchant for pissing on their bread and butter. I’m not sure how smearing rhetorical dogpiles on the liberal base is any way to win an election in a 50/50 (at bare minimum, probably close to 60/40 more liberal) country. Something tells me this isn’t going to end well for Big Billy Boy Dailey, David Plouffe, and Dan Pfeiffer, and Mr. Obushma.
I think we may have to break out the tshirts.
Oh, exactly.
They must have just enough intelligence and/or learning to know that they can’t hope to win against him (or FDL) in a fair, fact-based fight, so they’re trying a hopeless gambit to see if they can slime both FDL and Krugman and keep what’s left of the OFA flock from reading Krugman and FDL. It’s a revival of the whole “Don’t read Krugman, he’s a former Reagan employee who’s a gay racist Jewy Jew!!!” schtick that got pulled out back in early 2009 when he was warning everyone that the stimulus was far too small to bring back the economy and our jobs.
Yes, there are tribalistic authoritarian “trad Dem” voters, just like there are tribalistic authoritarian “trad Repub voters.” None of those citizens likes to be “disturbed” by truth or facts, or at least that’s been my experience.
Nonetheless, I try gently to keep educating some trad-Dem voters about what’s going on. If even one citizen wakes up to smell the coffee, it’s worth it.
Point taken. :-)
Enjoy the 15 minutes of firefame.
I guess so. It does somewhat amaze me that they appear to care enough about our opinions/ideas/etc that they have to DISS us so very intently, so very publically, and so very rudely.
I mean: if they thought we/our ideas/etc were worthless & stupid, then they would just IGNORE us.
That they don’t is, in itself, quite interesting, to say the least.
I think you’re right, Joe, about the “groups.” But I think we can count as success the peeling away of individuals from these groups.
When you can get them alone, ask questions, and challenge their “group think” assumptions, you will have planted seeds of doubt that hopefully will grow.
Look at the comments here and other places: people who were initial Obama supporters/donors/voters, but have woken up. Nov. 2012 is a long ways away. More people can defect, and particularly can be convinced that pulling the lever for Obama is just WRONG, no matter how many guilt trips the cultists try to lay on you.
If, on first introduction, someone calls me a fat, old lady . . . somehow I do NOT feel the warm-and-fuzzies; I do not anticipating labeling them one of my BFF’s. Now with all my hopey-changey feelings on the rocks and frequent considerations whether to continue identifying myself a Democrat, individuals like this give me the same qualms. You want my support, my money? And you think you’ll get it by calling me names???
Keep up the good work Jane and FDL . . . I have a great deal more pride in being a part of THIS community than with the formerly-proud label Democrat.
Come on Jane. Isn’t (ineffective and nonsensical) narcissism and personal vendetta the hallmarks of the Obama administration? Isn’t this the same group of geniuses that think the way to reelection is calling Romney “weird”? As though being called names does anything to the Repugs. I have a suggestion though. Get this guy fired. It’s time to start taking the heads of the idiots in this administration that continue this crap. Obama needs us a hell of a lot more than we need him. Remind him of that.
At least some mouse pads! heh…
Now there is an inspired way to garner votes.
Heh. So true.
Krugman, along with everyone else except Jane, caved on Obamacare. This is the thanks.
I smell “fund-raiser”!!!!!!!
The “first they ignore you” quote could go on the reverse side.
Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’s demise wasn’t Obama’s doing. The LGBT groups fought that to a standstill and dragged him along–when the outcome was obvious. He’s one of those sandbaggers who waits on the sidelines near the last mile of the marathon and jumps in to run to the finish line.
Obama is trying to play it like we are unpopular and use us to smear Paul but Obama is the unpopular one and the ideas on the Lake like end both wars or tax the rich more are actually more popular than Obama’s SS and Medicare cuts.
Obama is holding a skunk and saying its FDl and paul who stink.
Krugman has a modest command of the obvious. That’s about the best you can credit him.
Eh? Maybe not. Ever hear of Diebold? It’s my contention that IF the PTB want Obama to “win” in 2012, then he shall.
Another way to look at Obama’s latest hissy-fit-temper-tantrum thrown at us DFHs is that he just hates us for not adulating him, like some of his fans do. Not sure if that’s what motivates him, but my feeling is that Obama doesn’t really *concern* himself with who the middle & working class voters will vote for in 2012. I have no links to prove or disprove my assertions, however. Caveat emptor.
If the administration was a fraction as combative with the bat crap crayzee R baggers as they are with their base, we wouldn’t need to be so mean to Obama around here.
Aside from the rich who tend to favor the GOP more than they do Obama most voters are to the Left of Obama on the issues you can’t play lets link Paul to the unpopular kids smear game when the kids you link Paul to are more popular than you are.
I think the Obama team are really rattled about the unemployment rate (or more accurately the employment rate). The game plan is to blame it on Republican intransigence, based on the claim that what is needed is to bring down the deficit. Krugman (and just about everyone else with a brain in the economics profession) keeps pointing out that bringing down the deficit is exactly the worst thing you can do, so that if Obama had actually gotten his way, things would be worse than they already are. As to intransigence, the moment of action was spring, 2009, when he had the votes to pass an effective stimulus and failed. Krugman’s columns put the lie to the centerpiece of the election strategy.
If I were Obama, I would not want to go head to head with Krugman on economics. If I were me, I would not want to go head to head with him.
Yes and sometimes he speaks the truth. I will give Krugman that, but he is inconsistent, at best. However, I’d rather read Krugman’s column more than almost any of the other “pundits” out there, fwiw.
It’s interesting that the writer seems to see no distinction between cuts to programs designed to keep people alive and cuts to programs designed to, you know, kill people and blow shit up.
“Nonetheless, I try gently to keep educating some trad-Dem voters about what’s going on. If even one citizen wakes up to smell the coffee, it’s worth it.”
Are you disturbed at the lack of resources for you to easily do so? The 911 Truth movement got a huge boost from online videos, in particular the Loose Change series. Activists didnt’ stop there – they also pressed Loose Change to DVD and passed them out. (They also did highway overpass signs.)
If you wanted to pass out a DVD about the corruption of the Democrats Party to your Democratic friends, could you do so? If not, why did the 911 Truthers, who had to deal with a “high strangeness” topic, so readily surpass progressives who only deal with normal, non-strange political topics??
heh… you’ve got a point. That said, it’s pretty easy to be mean to Obama when he’s constantly DISSING citizens, like me, for daring to speak truth to power.
The minute I saw the title of this post, I knew exactly where he got it from.
It’s from an Obmabot blog titled The People’s View, from a post attempting to justify the debt ceiling “compromise” bill:
Paul Krugman Is A Political Rookie… — The People’s View
In fact, I posted over at my own blog a rejoinder to such nonsense:
For People Who Insist On Seeing The Glass As Half Full… — Inventing The American Left
So…has Deaniac83 picked up his check from OFA yet??
Anthony
Geez, who’da thunk way back in the Lamont dayz we’d be a real thorn (spear point?) in the side of the neoliberals.
Sandoval’s just jealous he can’t call himself a Firebagger.
Hey, Sandoval, yeah, you, dipshit, suck on this.
I recently rented the DVD “Inside Job” & showed it to friends. Several weren’t aware of the facts behind this, and it really changed some minds.
That’s one resource.
Chicago Reader, Dec 7, 1995
“What if a politician were to see his job as that of an organizer,” [Obama] wondered, “as part teacher and part advocate, one who does not sell voters short but who educates them about the real choices before them? As an elected public official, for instance, I could bring church and community leaders together easier than I could as a community organizer or lawyer. We would come together to form concrete economic development strategies, take advantage of existing laws and structures, and create bridges and bonds within all sectors of the community. We must form grass-root structures that would hold me and other elected officials more accountable for their actions.”
Sounds good to me. Bring people together “to form concrete economic development strategies, take advantage of existing laws and structures, and create bridges and bonds within all sectors of the community.”
But in practice? Give me an old-fashioned fire-breathing politician who stands for something, and not a touchy-feely encounter-group organizer. It has proven not to work. Get the hook.
In other news, I see the Obama’s BFF Joe Liberman has just attacked him on Fox for encouraging Israel’s enemies. What to do? what to do?
Yes, and the Congressional Dems trailed along behind him like obedient children.
The Poles call it pissing in the soup.
Good questions one & all.
It’s very clear that the PTB wish to keep the appearance of a “traditional Democratic” party in place, and there’s a LOT of money that’s behind that. No doubt, you, like me, get all those snail & e-mails from the various “versions” of the “Democratic party” (DLC, etc).
There’s been a ton of b.s. in the “Dem” party since forever, but since Obama was inaugurated, the bald-faced LIES are equivalent or more than what the rightwing does (I used to see a lot of conservative LIES when my mom was still alive & being barraged by rightwing think tank crap). It’s quite amazing, but it’s clear that the PTB wish to keep the “right v. left” paradigm going. The giant Kabuki Show is the core of their system, put in place in order to: 1) suppress/oppress citizens & dissent, 2) continue to rip off the middle/working class for the benefit of the upper 1%, and 3) continue to finagle & tweak the system more & more to the sole benefit of the upper 2%.
No there’s precious little out there that one can use to “educate” citizens about the venality and complete corruption of the so-called “Democratic” party.
So, yes, very good questions, metamars, and so… what do you suggest??
Yes, I just thought of that. Inside Job should be required viewing by all citizens. Albeit, that said, I’ve watched it with some friends, and most were “outraged” for a couple of seconds. And then they promptly fell back into their stupors, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they voted for Obama in 2012… sad to say.
Who is Sandoval, and how did he get the job? And for that matter, how well does he know New Mexico? If I was managing OFA directors right now, the last place I would want them to show up is in a news article about anything. Anything at all. Their job is not to grandstand, but to organize. And this crap through an email list is not organizing. But I’m not managing them, so he likely will not be fired or disciplined or even talked to.
I agree with the comments about OFA being so much into their own agenda that it is destroying local infrastructure that Democrats and progressive Democrats in particular have carefully built up since OFA abandoned the field in January 2009.
Ahhhhhhh! a Firesign Theatre Moment. From I Think we’re all Bozos on This Bus (circa 1972) George Tirebiter is talking to the Electronic President and finally screams “Mr. President! I want a job! The President answers ….”count on us to be there! Because if we’re lucky we won’t have to answer questions like yours ever again.
Ridicule and marginalize the base. That’s always the strategy for a second term demublican presidential candidate, except this time I think they hope they can destroy the base.
I hope your wrong because if he makes it we are really in trouble. When we supported him for Pres I never dreamed I would fear this guy in the future. Look what he is doing pre election. Can you imagine what he will take on when he has nothing to lose ? Whatever it is it will not be good for us!!

That said, the majority of delegates and in the caucuses are good people
I just joined and then, within 1 week, quit the big orange site. I as seeing more that agreed with some things Jane has been saying since the healthcare/insurance bailout fiasco.
I knew that the stated purpose of the site is to elect dems and support obama, so I didn’t hope for any more than increasing tolerance. I didn’t find that to be the case and even though almost every comment I posted (and my one diary) did pretty good with recs, I has HR rated and then offended by the way the orange boys create a hierachy of pundits based on a bogus “mojo” rating.
You can’t delete your account, so I just marked my profile defunct, changed my email, and deleted my bookmarks to the site. Even if I believe that obama is the better of evils and that I must vote for him regarless of what he does, flaming and banning any dialog about obama dismissing the base that created his historic mandate in 2008 is not helpful to dems nor obama.
If we don’t ask for more, we just get crappier and crappier dems. Believe me, I don’t want to see the party split nor want to see any of the repug wackos win elections; but if obama and dem leadership cannot create and carry a meaningful message to the majority of Americans (who are neither repug or self-identified as the faux “grassroots” teabaggers) we are in big trouble.
What to do?
Just state for the umpteenth time that Israeli expansion of settlements are “troubling”, i.e., full speed ahead.
I’ll be a firebagger.
I don’t give credence to anything issuing from “Only For Assess” OFA.
Yep, I remember that one from waaaay back, and have thought of it frequently in the past year or so.
I am really questioning the intelligence of the liberals. Obama has been spitting in our face since he was elected and 70% are still calling it rain. The 70% that support him need to look at his policies and if they still support him, they should consider calling themselves faux liberals. How can you be outraged when Bush does something and make excuses for Obama when he does the same thing? The only polite word that comes to mind is hypocrite.
We must really be worrying OFA and the prez. You don’t bother to fight those who are not a threat.
That lame OFA logo always looked like ‘Sun Setting on American Empire’ to me.
We actually live in a time where it is better in the long run for the country and definitely better for Progressive causes to have the Democratic nominee for President lose to any of the Tea Party winguts.
No Democrat, big or small, historic or not, can receive the votes of the Progressive left after putting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid on the block on purpose, thus squeezing the toothpaste out of the tube. If we do not exact penalty from the Left for this, we will never ever be taken seriously, and we will deserve what we get.
To all those who say that the alternative – be it Bachman, Perry, Romney – is worse, I say “No.” We can see them coming. We know how to mobilize on defense, and this time, unlike with Skippy Bush, we will be ready.
But Obama…well, fool me once, shame on you, fool me on everything I hold dear…
If not us, who? If not now…well there is no when.
Yes, mos def. The difference between the DFH liberal base & the Tea Party base is that us DFH’s REFUSE to be manipulated & easily led… at least ALL of the time. Many of us were “fooled” into voting for Hopey-Changey (including me), but the scales rapidly fell from our eyes. And it didn’t take long for the speaking out to commence.
Although it looks like the Tea Party base “gets what they want,” in reality, they are not. The Tea Party started out as a movement against the TARP & bank bailouts, amongst other issues. So tell me how the Tea Party base “got what they wanted” again? Frankly, they have not. It’s just that a lot of them (not to be mean, but factual) are easily amused by distractions, like Sarah Palin & Glenn Beck holding tent-show revivals. And then Rupert Murdoch & Roger Aisles arrange for Fox to *sound* like they AGREE with the T-Party… but what happens in reality is that the upper 2% are ripping of the T-Party base just as much as the DFH liberal base is being ripped off.
The hatred/fear/what have you exhibited towards the DFH liberal base, I posit (just my opinion, mind you), is that we actually live much more in REALITY, we discuss FACTS, we’re smart, and we’re not distracted long-term by novelty side-show b.s. We keep speaking TRUTH to power, and homey don’t like that.
that alone is enuff to get him troll rated and/or banned from certain other “liberal” blogs.
For the OFA idiot I’ve made a post about it and there’s quite a lot of talk about putting military retirement into the hands of Wall Street.
I’m really just surprised that this guy hasn’t been canned. Back during the 2008 campaign, if you were an UNPAID staffer–a full-time intern–or a volunteer and did so much as go off message on your personal Facebook account, they’d send you home. That the state director can now go on and issue pleading, bitch-like appeals to voters via the official email list–the most valuable asset of their goddamn organization–just shows you how much the organization has gone downhill over the last two years.
It must really chap Obama’s hide that we are unwilling to clap as he sells out on every last guiding principle of the Democratic Party.
Bingo! “Fearing” someone like Bachmann or Perry is a waste of time. I say: bring ‘em on!
Frankly, we’d do better with a KNOWN enemy in the White House. At least then citizens would have a clue.
At the end of the day, no T-Party politician is going to do anything “worse” than what Obama is doing right this instant.
If Michelle had any decency or any real ties to her roots, that’s all Barry’d be hugging in bed at night.
I have been hearing a nasty spin from Obama supporters here in the south — that those within the party expressing doubts are a hidden racist element in the party! They are also saying that we were Hillary Clinton supporters and never supported Obama. I am outraged. But it also sounds like OFA is feeling pretty desperate.
Amen
Hamsher and Krugman! Getting put on Obama’s enemy list is going to be as prestigious as getting onto Nixon’s enemy list was.
several boasts in the HuffPo thread about joining up as a paying member at FDL
Welcome !
This assumes that “my folks” are not at the top of the OFA, sending this down to the state directors. Though apparently this same plead-mail has not been reported from other quarters. Yet??
It’s fairly clear that they wanted to wipe us out. One of the first things they did was get rid of the 50 state plan and that was just plain stupid.
Yes, yes, you have and there are posts about that.
Most of our posts here say stuff like: HOW will anyone ever know IF the Military/DoD is EVEN cut? There’s no real accountability with the Military and DoD, and no real accurate way to determine if spending has gone down for real. Anyway, even if there are verifiable cuts, most of them will be off the backs of enlisted personnel in one fashion or another.
Excuse me while I just get more and more cynical….
normally I would think that as well, but there is something creepily petty about their hippie bashing – I concur with Jane, reeks of narcissism
How many sister Souljah moments does Obama think he needs before he gets Moderate Voters to like him by my count O has punched the hippies ? I can’t count that high.
O needs to realize that fighting the last war won’t work this time. Obama is not Clinton Obama is France and England refighting WW1 during WW2 and losing.
Does anybody else see a similarity between that quote and the musings of MarkH around here? Was (is) he OFA doing research here for the fundraising letter? Just wondering…
Hope you don’t mind me doing a little editing…
too kind – but nice nickname. He fully knows what he is doing and it has nothing to do with courage, predisposition to avoid conflict, or any other psycho-babble.
He is a political hack that ran a cynical campaign in 2008, has now disenfranchised much of the coalition that supported him, and thinks he can use folks like the orange blog to bully us into submission.
He knows who he works for and has made sure that many feel they have no place to go. He thinks they will get out and vote for him, but many will just stay home.
And it will not be the fault progessive dems that tried to warn him and steer him onto a road to victory – the blame here rests fully on dem leadership, the white house, and those that think they can bully obama supporters for asking questions like the big orange folks.
Feel free to edit any time. And you’re correct.
I know republicans who admit Obama is no leader but confess that he is “sure helping us out alot”. Isn’t that comforting ???
Thanks for that “report.” Unsurprising. Of course, they say crap like that in order to cover up why citizens are turning against Obama for *ripping us all off,* for bald-faced LYING during his campaign, for carrying water for the conservatives & the upper 2%.
Obama’s race has nothing to do with anything, but it’s easy to pull out the racist card in order to shut down dissent. Those arguments are very weak tea in my book. Scared, much?
Is it punch-a-hippie day again?
Did I miss the memo?
Well, someone call me when it’s punch-a-treehugger day.
Yes it is, he’s a LOT more mainstream & risk averse than I could’ve possibly imagined way back when (mid 90s) I started reading him.
Us hidden Hilary supporters not since Hilary gave that talk at the Lake i think that talk was the end of her run for President.
Us racist Hmmm the Obamabots do know that not all dark people think alike, agree, know each other much less support each other blindly Obama’s poll numbers have been dropping with African Americans how do they explain that?
… as opposed to the stockholm syndrome “Thank you sir may I have another?”
Fuckin A Jane, you know you’re approaching the target when you start taking flak.
Well, I’m also guessing the less than gushing campaign stops BO received (compared to his summer of hope & change) have them miffed. Seeing as how us firebaggers are innoculated liberals who see BO for what he is, they blame us for trying to pass on the same medicine to rest of BO’s potential allies.
Nice going Jane. BO may threaten us with drones now!
*spit*
I get the impression that OFA sees themselves in competition with the righties for having the worst sense of irony.
These people do not care about the good of the country. They are just scared that Mr Obama will be defeated and they will lose their jobs and their prestige that comes from being connected. They want everybody to quit complaining in public and to shut up so the Democrats can present themselves as a big happy family. They want nobody to openly criticize or show the flaws in their approach to the government.
As far as they are concerned we are just the bratty kids who are embarrassing Daddy in front of his boss and the neighbors we all want to impress.
If they don’t want my vote, fine. They have made it clear that I am not important and that they are willing to hurt me to please other people. That is their strategy, and they can win or lose with it without me, no matter who is on the other side. He can take care of himself, and I will take care of myself. The Obama administration is sure as hell not going to do anything for me.
I assume he had authorization. You don’t?
Agree. Calling Obama a “rookie” or “inexperienced” or “inept” is understandable bc he does often appear that way.
IMO, Obama is a cynical manipulative but very very smooth political operative. Also a sociopath, which is why he can appear to be so “honest” when he’s clearly spouting out bald-faced lies.
In fact, Obama is neither “stupid,” nor is he “not up to the job.” Frankly I think he’s very smart, and he’s doing what is, for better or worse, a difficult job very well… that is: Obama is someone sent forth to sell sh*t as shinola, and frankly a huge segment of the population buys his sh*t and thinks it’s shinola.
Beware the smooth talking operator…
Which is why we need an FDL store that sells original, made in USA stuff (FDL jobs program), that I could buy at an inflated price that gives me my counter-Obama gear and gives FDL the profits for its various advertising campaigns. Much better than just $15 donations.
he had a lot of help from obamabots.
Over at the orange place, even though “firebagger”, “bagger” and obvious direct insults (some profane) are permissible when someone even dares questions dem leadership and obama, the term “obamabot” will result in hr ratings and your “mojo” will suffer, resulting in more hr ratings, flaming, and eventually being chased off the boards.
Believe it or not, some orange moron ran a post Sunday that gallup was reporting obama as “favored” and in good shape when the REAL story was that he had dipped below a 40 percent approval rating for the first time – clearly dangerous territory for a sitting president.
Unlike w, he is not likely to get a free pass on stealing the next election.
Wasn’t it FDR who said “I welcome their hatred?” I do welcome it and hope they continue. It’s political suicide for the elected Dems to expect Obama to have coattails and influence. If he asks to come to their state and campaign for them, they should immediately leave town.
Yet the DNC has killed a tree and wasted countless kilowatt hours hounding me with pointless surveys and begging for money. Let me make this as unambiguous as possible: THEY CAN KISS MY ASS!!!
I am with you bobthecat. I will not vote for this guy and I keep repeating on this site that we need a new party, and I think that the key to someone new to vote for is with the Labor Unions because they have the money and people power to run competent opposition to this disgusting administration. No one comments when I repeat this..either they don’t like Unions at FDL or they think I am wrong.
Now, now. We don’t know what goes between them in private. Mrs Obama doesn’t have to hang the family laundry in public.
Who’s playing the race card now?
This smells. Have Andrew Breitbart and James O’Keefe gone from doctoring videos to planting “right-wing talking point” emails? And if not, how did a Tea Party mole end up heading OFA-New Mexico, one who passes along right-wing talking point emails?
IOW, this sounds like more right-wing mischief, sowing discord, using the word “Firebagger” (no doubt a take-off of Teabagger, a term which still upsets a whole bunch of Teabagging right-wingers) and calling Paul Krugman a “rookie.” So, for the time being I’ll not jump to any conclusions, at least not until Sandoval is tracked down and interviewed in person, as well as getting more information about this blogster who penned this anti-liberal screed that Sandoval presumably passed along because it excited him so much.
How does one weaponize BO to disperse from drones? :>
“He rides the coattails of the simplistic argument that spending cuts – any spending cuts – are bad for a fragile economy, ignoring wholeheartedly his own revious cheerleading for cutting, say, defense spending.
It’s interesting that the writer seems to see no distinction between cuts to programs designed to keep people alive and cuts to programs designed to, you know, kill people and blow shit up.”
Hairsplitting…/S
Nice catch.
I don’t disagree with you at all but the unions have been IMO too close to this sleazy bunch. I totally support the unions that have stepped up and complained.
To those that pay attention (including I imagine you) it increasingly is obvious that he actually sides with the repugs and is also using a fake grassroot organization that was fully manufactured by repug insiders and faux news as an excuse to give us w’s third term.
Actually, from the somewhat delusional point of view that independents are actually moderate GOP voters, yes.
This applies more to the obots than to Obama himself, as Obama has already accomplished the damage he set out to inflict and is willing to sacrifice his second term to see it all through.
In the obot delusion the result of Obama shedding his “Dem” disguise will be that the
independentsmoderate voters will see that they can have theirplutocrat-authoredconservative memes validated and do not have to feel guilty about, or be held to account for, the disastrous results that occurred when those policies implemented for decades. Then (in the obot delusion) the
independentsmoderate GOP voters will vote for Obama rather than one of the obviously insane teabaggers that’s going to win the GOP nomination. Here’s another one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIOC1J44RYw&feature=player_embedded#at=226
Or that what he is saying has the approval of those above him.
Concur. Lied all the way to the WH.
Thank you.
Plouffe and Daley (and their very very junior retainers like Sandoval)remind me of the tailors in this old fable:
“An Emperor who cares for nothing but his appearance and attire hires two tailors who promise him the finest suit of clothes from a fabric invisible to anyone who is unfit for his position or “just hopelessly stupid”. The Emperor cannot see the cloth himself, but pretends that he can for fear of appearing unfit for his position; his ministers do the same. When the swindlers report that the suit is finished, they mime dressing him and the Emperor then marches in procession before his subjects, who play along with the pretense. Suddenly, a child in the crowd, too young to understand the desirability of keeping up the pretense, blurts out that the Emperor is wearing nothing at all and the cry is taken up by others. The Emperor cringes, suspecting the assertion is true, but holds himself up proudly and continues the procession.”
You mean like this graphic?
If the only way you can get money is by attacking FDL and Paul regardless of right or wrong well isn’t that what the Nazi’s did to the Jews blame a scapegoat?
Is there nothing Obama won’t do for cash stealing from old people their SS and Medicare just to give it to the banks is much lower than attacking FDL and Paul.
I wonder what Obama will do to raise money when election season starts?
“A cool blooded and crafty politician, when he would be thoroughly revenged on his enemy, makes the injuries which have been inflicted, not on himself, but on others, the pretext of his attack. He thus engages the world as a partisan in his quarrel, and dignifies his private hate, by giving it the air of disinterested resentment.”-CHARLES CALEB COLTON
“Politics is not an end, but a means. It is not a product, but a process. It is the art of government. Like other values it has its counterfeits. So much emphasis has been placed upon the false that the significance of the true has been obscured and politics has come to convey the meaning of crafty and cunning selfishness, instead of candid and sincere service.” -Calvin Coolidge
“If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.”- Dwight Eisenhower
wow – it’s just dawned on me with Obama/Congr Dem track record – the seasoned smart types who normally would be in Sandoval’s slot are no longer there – OFA is down to the deaniac63′s/Shoq types – good effin luck with that
Organizations like Architects for Truth and the rest of those that have questions about 9/11 understand something that obama, the orange guys, and dem leadership desperately want us to forget/overlook.
Welcome x2
Pardon my ignorance of things-internet, but what the hell is “KRGTHULU”?
Thanks.
Indeed. I didn’t bother to add that O is every bit the representative of the plutocracy and not the base of the Democratic Party.
That is really great. Thanks.
Am I the only one old enough and with enough rural background to get a visual of “firebagging?”
You get a paper grocery bag. You fill it at the nearest dairy farm. You crumple a few newspapers and cover your “present” You then deliver the package to the teacher/principal/ex-love/whatever’s front door, light the paper, ring the doorbell, and RUN LIKE HELL!
Those were simpler times.
I promise you. That is his only strategy in the South GOTV ;the African American vote. Now even that block is crumbling… Racist? Give me a break!
The banks don’t like Firedoglake, because FDL has not rolled over and accepted fiancial rape of the middle class.
The White House, on the other hand, continues to beg for banker love in a manner that would shame a peerless strumpet.
Well, this has inspired me to wear my FDL t-shirt today. To paraphrase FDR:
“Never before in all our history has the Democratic party been so united against liberals as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for us—and I welcome their hatred.”
Yeah, ain’t that a bitch?? The DNC & DLC regularly DISS us DFH firebaggers, but I, too, am constantly being botherd by the DNC & DLC & OFA for money, money, money.
They all like to talk big like they loathe & despise the liberal base, but they ain’t too proud to beg for money from us.
PTOUI!!!
There may be a lot to that. He certainly did not make efforts to embrace the traditional Democrats in the State and Local Parties.
Had the same question.
Evidently, back in 2008, Atrios gave Paul that nickname, because of all the people who want to marginalize such a mild-mannered guy.
Ha! Firebagger: Proudly hurling poop on the porch of the plutocracy! That’s my lil’ saying.
Incumbent presidents have run for re-election when unemployment was higher than 7.5% exactly 5 times since 1900. All but twice they lost. The two times they won were both by Roosevelt, in 1936 and 1940. And what was Roosevelt doing then? He was championing the New Deal in the face of the Great Depression. What is Obama doing? He is ngegotiating cuts to the New Deal programs in the face of the Great Recession. Good luck with that.
If this strategy is designed to appeal to Independents…..I have news for the OFA….it’s NOT WORKING!!!! Does OFA realize it’s Democrats, not repukes and independents who are keeping Obama’s lousy approval numbers afloat?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cthulhu
read this & then combine Krugman with Cthulhu, and you’ll get the (very stupid) picture. It’s what Krugman’s enemies like to call him.
The city version uses dog shit.
Cry Havoc and let slip the Firedogs Of Truth!
Or
Cry havoc and let slip the Firebaggers Of Truth!
I like the first one best. I would pay $35 for it on a T-shirt or $15 for it on a coffee mug from the FDL store that still doesn’t exist. OFA has a store don’t they?
From Democratic Underground:
Nice elaboration on my point – well said. So the question should be, why do so many at the orange place think they need shinola? It never comes in orange, does it?
Or am I mistaken and that is what boerner has been dipped in?
Yep. Good points to bring up as many times a possible, much like the fact that the debt ceiling was raised FIVE times during the GW Bush Admin, and NO ONE made one peep about it.
Citizens need as much education as possible about the facts and what’s really going on.
Oh, I’d forgotten about that. Unfortunately, you can’t legally reproduce it and hand it out. Also, you can’t legally post it online to view it as a streaming video.
The 911 Truthers could copy to their heart’s delight, mostly because Loose Change’s creators allowed them to.
Krgthulhu is a horrific extradimensional entity distantly related to Great Cthulhu but with a spreadsheet.
But hasn’t that been the practice since 1972? Probably has a name such as the McGovern Factor. Or since the liberals hang around and probably don’t remember McGovern, the name has changed to Co-Dependency Factor?
lotsa familiar sounding syntax in that HuffPo thread – whadda y’all up to ? :D
snort! made me laugh!!! Agent Orange most likely is dipped in sh*t and not in shinola. Albeit Agent Orange wants you to *believe* that what he’s really dipped in is shinola.
Got it???
sigh, yes. Something like that, verily. No sh*t. We liberals are a well past our “Sell by” date in terms of any alliance with the so-called “Democratic” party.
Yes I read it as a lot of desperation but I have to say it also brings new disgust for me with this bunch. They are even lower in the gutter than I expected. BTW I am finding lots of voting Democrats and even party members that are pretty disgusted — and of course they are the liberal wings — many with roots in the civil rights movement. Racist!! My Word!
Gotta run, ya dirty rotten firebaggers! Keep the faith. Keep educating others, and finally:
Illegitimi non carborundum!
All PR is GOOD PR. Thanks, OFA & Atrios, for your support!!
They are taking the low road and exhibiting the last vestiges of scoundrels. When someone resorts to such low tactics, you know that they feel backed into a corner… which is a good thing, in many ways.
Keep the faith!
This is what happen when President Gilligan Obama think he is the most intelligent person on the island. Let him keep listing to the Skipper Daley. Gilligan Obama got his Nobel Peace prize on Lay-A-Way for ending wars. Instead of ending wars he took a gulf from the stupid jar in his office and double down and creating more wars. Professor Krugman got his on economics. Something that not left to chance. Professor Krugman is very dam good base on his track record. Kipper Daley should try to get that much bass in President Gilligan Obama’s voice when he talk to the Republicans Mr. Howell and Mrs Howell and the crazy that visit the island from time to time. President Gilligan Obama should remember his Noel Peace Prize is still on lay-a-way. Base upon what the Mary Ann Jane Hamsher is saying, I do not think he have The DNA or political will to get it out of lay-a-way . It nothing else Gilligan Obama will always have Ginger’s Obama bots and a certain amount of fools that will wash upon the sands of the island.
What do I suggest? That’s an easy one. Make a DVD, that has a Creative Commons license (I think that’s what it’s called; basically, a license that let’s you legally duplicate all you want) that exposes the corruption of the Democratic Party from a progressive viewpoint. Don’t spare the Veal Pen actors. In fact, the members of the Veal Pen groups are prime targets – we want them to search out more effective groups, or else take over their groups, where that is possible.
I’d also get Bueno de Mesquita, or other competent political game theorist, to speak on the stupidity of lesser evilism.
The expenses for creation of the DVD could be crowd-funded. Maybe kickstarter.com.
When I had a job, I was willing to part with $500 to get the creation of a DVD at least started. I tried to contact Kevin Gosztola to work on this, but never heard back from him. Right now, I can’t contribute anything, unfortunately….
If the DVD is sufficiently critical of both Democrats and Republicans, you might be able to get We Are Change 911 groups to distribute it. We Are Change is non-partisan, but should have no problem taking both the Dems and Repubs down a notch. They know that they got no satisfaction from either the Dems or Repubs re a 911 re-investigation.
ROFLMAO
Speaking of It’sNotEnough-ism,
How many years in Afghanistan now?
How many in Iraq?
How many will we be in Libya?
How many drone bombing deaths?
How many war supplementals?
How much more aid to the Israel lebensraum politik?
How many more Nuclear Industry give-aways?
How many more deep water oil drilling permits?
How much more secrecy?
How much more whistle-blower looking backward, but actual war-criminal myopia?
Is it EVER ENOUGH you impotent, whining, lying, corporate puppet, progressive-ideal sabotaging, democrat party?
I am willing to bet that many members of OFA DO have a number of “progressive” principles. It is very difficult for them now to use cognitive thinking skills as they see the candidate they support:
1. Escalate wars
2. Decrease our Civil Liberties through the Patriot Act
3. Provide trillions to financial institutions without requirements AND not bringing about justice to those who committed and continue to commit “control fraud”
4. Actively works to decrease the Democratic programs which have been the hallmark of the party, in some cases for 50+ years…Social Security, Medicare, etc.
5. Provides “health care reform” previously written by the “other” party which primary beneficiaries are the health insurance companies (mandates) and Big Pharma (no drug negotiations) instead of citizens of the U.S.
6. Endlessly talking about spending cuts and tax cuts…the platform of the “other” party
Etc., etc….
For some of those OFA members, they may find it far easier to attack those who may have similar beliefs, than to face the reality that President Obama does NOT represent their interests.
When you don’t have the courage of your convictions, the only thing you have left is negativity and lies.
Actually, Obama played the race card in 2008. I didn’t realize it until Jack White pointed it out in a The Root article. You have to have seen the Malcolm X film to pick up the reference: bamboozled and hoodwinked are Malcolm’s admonition to his audiences, warning them against believing the “okey dokey,” the bullshit con job, whites would lay on them. (Can’t argue with that, really, but that’s another discussion.) Obama used that code to his African-American audiences, which may explain Bill Clinton’s explosion during the run up to the Southern presidential primary. Jack White, FTR, is African-American, and described himself as almost the only Hillary Clinton supporter among his family and friends. He ripped Obama up one side and down the other. Wrote that he didn’t believe Obama’s books, just political positioning. I had been thinking along those lines, myself, but White put the final nail in the coffin.
Oh,
You must have read Amanda Marcotte’s inane post over at Pandagon!
You left out that we’re also “control freaks”–as though wanting to hold a putatively Democratic president accountable for his anti-(human)citizen policies is a bad thing. And that we should just STFU because, hey, we’re all going to die eventually anyway!
I guess even influential athiests/skeptics are susceptible to some types of blind faith…
How can the poll numbers showing support for “liberal” support for Obama be accurate? The lack of adequate education in these United States results in people not understanding some basic concepts, such as liberal, socialism, fascism, etc. Remember that Obama is a public servant and he’s not your damn boyfriend.
Ray Sandoval is an infamous DLC type DINO pendejo well known her in NM for sticking both feet in his mouth at times. Now that I know that he’s running OFA, there’s not a chance that I would contribute one penny.
Hell yes, I’m a Firebaggy Lefty!
Seconded!
a) Tribalism. Unfortunately, it affects liberals too. (Just watched Ed Schultz the other night say he hoped that unions boycotting the Dem Convention in Charlotte in 2012 would “see the light” and join the happy Dem family that’s screwing them.
b) Ignorance. I can’t fathom it either.
Especially fascism. It’s like the dirty word that no one understands.
-stewartm
oopsie !
WaPo
So they are paying attention to us. I’m enjoying this a lot.
“Fascism” seems to confuise a lot of people. Kinda like “flammable” , “inflammable”, and “non-inflammable”.
Ding
Oh, but they do.
Or in the difference in spending (if household metaphors we must use) that is the equivalent of re-wiring the house, fixing the plumbing, and re-doing the roof, vs spending on throwing the most hellacious of parties.
-stewartm
You forgot flim-flammable.
I didn’t know we HAD shirts.
Can you use that in a sentence?
well yeah, but I agree with Twain above – that was a fairly rapid response
The OFA people are like the followers of Mussolini. When leader smiles, attack anyone who dosent smile. When leader Frowns, go after anyone with a smile. These people are becoming dangerous with thier personality cult.
If it’s a choice between listening to Paul Krugman, political rookie, and Ray Sandoval, political non-entity, I’ll take Krugman.
Sure, people who are suckered into believing the OFA BS are flim-flammable.
LOLzers! Hooray!
Guess we can also call Obama a “chicken.” Someone reading here???
… now insert the adjective “highly”… :)
Thanks.
more likely HuffPo – almost to 3,000 comments and the overwhelming majority of them negative
suggest firedogs who rarely read in places like HP take a peek :D
During the primary season the republicans run to the right. I guess that’s the democratic strategy too. Never saw the term “Firebaggers” before. Makes me think of that Christmas song, “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire…” Conjures up some good mental images for a logo too, and even a slogan, “How do you like your teabags?”
I don’t know. I think they just like to throw shit and then back away.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt your feewings. Oh noes.”
Offensive behavior supposedly offset by damage control.
Effing retards, I say.
I love the fact that 1. you don’t defend Krugman’s column 2. You don’t state that any facts in Deaniac’s column are incorrect and 3. You’re basically saying that ANY criticism coming Krugman or FDL’s way is off limits and beyond the pale. And that it’s bad political strategy.
But correct me if I’m wrong isn’t that the SAME argument that Faux News makes whenever the White House criticises them? That Faux has the widest cable audience and therefore they are beyond criticism? And that if they do criticize them it will be a disaster for them?
I knew what Krugman’s take on the debt deal would be even before he wrote the piece. I would be very surprised if Krugman even bothered reading the specefics of the debt deal before he even wrote his skreed.
The reason why Krugman should be criticized is the same reason Faux should be criticized is the same reason FDL should be criticized: they often lie about the President.
Well good. Glad to hear it.
Seriously, any trad-Dem voter really ought to find the commentary a turn-off, a best, and completely outrageous, inappropriate & uncalled for at worst.
Telling off your base the way that Obama loves to do is getting really old and completely out of control. And fwiw, it surely doesn’t make Obama or OFA or Atrios or anyone else of that ilk look good. IF they think we’re off-base, then why not start a dialogue? Oh that’s right: they really just want us to STFU.
Bugger that.
Some organization associated with Ron Paul allows you to buy DVD’s that explain the “Ron Paul Revolution”, in bulk, already burnt. For $800, you can get 1,000 of them. These are referred to as “handout DVD’s” for an obvious reason.
This is also something that’s needed to educate the public about corruption in the Democratic party, and cooption in the Veal Pen. Not everybody has the patience to burn DVD’s, 1 by 1.
They use the term, firebaggers, a lot at the big orange. It’s a conflation of FireDogLake and Tea Bagger, which, of course, is meant to diss those of us here at FDL for daring to speak truth to power and not go along to get along and also not worship at Obama’s eleventy-dimensional chess-playing gucci-shod feet.
Dems have had convictions the last 30 years? I thought they were the Republican Lite brand.
(Really–when have you heard one campaign on repealing Reagan instead of paying homage to him as saint just like the Repugs? That doesn’t wash with me even when they are trying to backhand current Repugs for being more rightwing than Reagan–which is dubious, as I believe Reagan policy-wise was as rightwing as he could get away with in that more liberal era. If he could have been a Scott Walker or a Paul Ryan, he would have.)
-stewartm
Is this what we’re left with?
Listening to the status quo protectors pissing and moaning about progressives in general, and FDL in particular, is music to my ears. :o)
Back at ‘em:
http://www.rjmatson.com/frames_RECENT.htm
Neither Krugman nor FDL in any way represents “the base” and it hasn’t for years.
“Do they think they hold so much sway with liberals that they can discredit Krugman and thus neutralize his criticism?”
Labeling him with derogatories without any attempt to make an argument that what he said is wrong doesn’t discredit Krugman, it discredits the speaker.
Agree, except I would add:
c) Authoritarianism:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Authoritarianism
Some say that conservatives & the T-Party are authoritarians, and I would argue that they are. But many on the “left,” are just as authoritarian. It’s just that they cling to their “party” without question. Hence the “Democrats” can easily pull the wool over their constituents eyes.
Stay evermore awake….
What a coincidence, neither does the presididn’t.
Let’s review: the Teaparty is attacking the New Deal infrastructure while the OFA attacks the liberals and progressives who want to defend the New Deal. It seems to me that the net result is the OFA is in agreement with the Teaparty. The motivation or reason is unimportant. Liberals are surrounded in a war. This the state of things that we confront.
What’s not to hate about Obama and his sycophants?
Well I would argue that FDL certainly represents the views of some segment of our populace.
I see Krugman as a pundit who writes mostly for newspapers and, like most pundits, not particularly representative of any group of citizens.
I would equally argue that Obama represents the views of the upper 2%.
So what’s your point?
Maybe somebody has half a grip on the concept of not biting the hands that (hopefully) feed you. It’s really a tempest in a teapot, tho, because outside the circles of political junkies, no one knows, let alone cares.
Professional politicians know there are a core of completely reliable voters you need in an election. The people who will move heaven and earth to get to the polls and vote your ticket. I think that cadre is diminishing as straight ticket voting declines, but votes you can count on are still to be treasured. Spitting at “your base” is beyond stupid. Hubris comes to mind, monumental conceit. Whatever the pros may say in private, how many times do you remember any of them openly insulting supporters? This cult revels in it. It’s part of their devotional ceremony.
Pfffft! They’ve already called us f*cking r@tards. I’m sure the backtracking is disingenuous.
Yes, quite agree.
I don’t particularly feel that Obama is “representing” or “standing for” the Tea Party, but it’s clear that Obama’s views, the actions (or lack thereof) of his Admin, is much more in alignment with conservative, NeoCon viewpoints (albeit what Obama mostly promotes is NeoLiberalism), and reflects a lot of goals/ideas espoused by the Tea Party (which I feel has been co-opted by the super-wealthy and doesn’t really reflect what the “small person” Tea Partier really wants, but that’s another story).
Witness the Oligarchy at work… along with the ongoing effort to divide and conquer.
Quite agree. I just find it very *amusing* to note that they feel the need – for whatever reason – to distance themselves from the negative attack on the DFHs. ha de ha…
Acturally I heard it from a fairly high ranking party operative. They seem to be writing from a long list of how to scapegoat and demonize — whatever faction that questions.
Believe it or not, he already has nothing to lose. Financially, he’s set and he’ll always be the first African-American president (forget that he’s ruling like the white half).
Ohhhh, one of the priesthood. That makes complete sense, then.
I did sorta want to point out that Pandagon post, though, and your comment seemed like a good springboard…
Big Orange isn’t the only place re-iterating the usual OFA talking points. *sigh*
Agree. What difference does it make to the Obama’s if he only serves one term? They came into office with some decent money, but now they’re effen millionaires (if not billionaires). Obama’ll have loads of “jobs” that he’ll get paid big buck$$ to do once he leaves office.
Where’s the downside for him if “loses” in 2012??? He’s set for life. In fact, like GW Bush, he could just “drop out” and not do anything. Whatever…
I agree completely. He uses every clever bit of code and manipulation to exploit race. As I read here I am also impressed that they are in a sub rosa full court press to demonize any hint of dissent.
I wasn’t going to feed you, and against my better judgment …
I can see there’s absolutely no irony in your username
Yes, I get the etymology. I also get the slur by association. What I want to know is if we get enough”Firebaggers” together to get qualify for the corner booth at Denny’s to protest something, will we get coverage like the teabaggers on CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, FOX, MSNBC 24/7?
Dear Insipid;
“Base” or not, I feel it’s a great honor to be the turd in the “centrist” punchbowl. :o)
6-12 months from now, when Obama has:
A. Decided (with help from congressional democrats desperately hoping to hang on to their cushy jobs…) that the private sector is calling…
B. poll numbers that are so low that rats and cockroaches are forming campaign organizations for 2012 runs…
C. people in his administration running up and down like passengers looking for a way off a certain White Star liner, in April of 1912…
it will be of some interest to listen to “centrists” parse the yeas and nays of whether or not progressives have been the most loyal democrats…that is, until Obama blew us off like we were a bunch of relatives wearing tube-tops and camos, showing up to his country club bi-partisan wedding with the republicans.
I’m betting it will have become irrelevant by then.
I think it’s refreshing to read this and this at DailyKos.
Ah, onitgoes, “insipid” represents the essence of the Democratic Party and Barack Obama, today, with utter and complete perfection.
“Insipid” is “Without taste … without perceptible flavour … wanting the qualities which excite interest or emotion; lifeless, dull, flat … and devoid of taste, intelligence, or judgement; stupid, foolish, and dull …”
… according to the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary.
We are blessed and honored by such a one’s presence.
It is a sign.
That we are having a LARGE effect.
Let us continue.

Here is just ONE example of the guys the mf’er “represents”:

Lie your way out of those appointments insipid, there are a lot more where those came from.
This text was written by the nutball deaniac83 at his website the peoples view. These are the virulent Obamabots.
AngryBlackLady, Eclectablog, wee see you, blackwaterdog… ect.
Forwarding this text in the email, copied from a blog, was extremely unprofessional.
It’s pretty obvious that cutting defense spending (which Obama has protected more than say, food stamps or home heating oil subsidies for the poor) as a general rule doesn’t hurt the economy as much as cutting generic domestic spending. In the best case, defense spending is Keynes’s metaphor for paying people extremely well to dig holes and then fill them back in–it produces nothing of economic worth. In terms of economic efficiency, defense, security, police, and prisons are best purchased in the minimum quantity needed.
The facts? Well, he has a lot more confidence that Republicans won’t go after the entitlements, just because it’s wildly unpopular, especially after after they just went after Medicare. Moreover, he has a lot more confidence than anyone here that Obama will allow the Bush tax cuts to expire, after having failed to repeal them twice when he easily could have.
Krugman has been criticized here. When he’s wrong, say, on backing Obamacare.
And FDL contains a variety of bloggers, all of which don’t agree with each other. Many “Firebaggers” would be happier if they saw, say, Obama actually trying to enact what he actually campaigned on, instead of doing the opposite.
-stewartm
Yes, I was reading the comments on the HuffPo article. People not really buying the whole attempt to demean “firebaggers.” Which tells me the cabal on social media that are always trying to draw attention to “Firebaggers” like Jane, Glenn Greenwald, Lt. Dan Choi, etc may have won some previous battles but are losing the war.
“Let’s review: The Tea Party is attacking the New Deal infrastructure while the OFA attacks the liberals and progressives who want to defend The New Deal…”
I believe that’s the 8-ball in the side pocket.
AKA: “hammer-nail-bang”.
I don’t mean to pimp Alan Grayson as some kind of saint, but he was the only one who, when Obama was letting the GOP define the political debate, had the moxie to speak the truth about the assholes.
Too bad that he lost his seat, but now he’s free to go after the real culprit, and he aint a republican. :o)
“I’m enjoying this a lot.”
You are not alone, Sam. :o)
Writhe; you centrist jerks. :o)
Thanks. I figured as much. Hadn’t run into insipid before but figured s/he was an obamabot intent on proving us “poor fools” wrong.
Whatever… someone else is on the ship of fools, not me.
seems like the handle/nom de blog is more than appropriate.
I have been lurking but I just had to comment on getting rid of the 50-state plan and also Howard Dean. I know some do not like him but I still think he has a lot to offer in planning. I totally agree with your assessment.
In NYC we just went to the nearest curb for our gifts.
Name ONE lie Krugman made about Obama. (and congratulations on using the Word of the Day – which I believe is actually spelled “sCreed”)
I could write in Krugman. Got to write in somebody.
I’m sorry but what exactly is the “big orange”?
Daily Kos
Outstanding documentary I would recommend it to everybody.
O-Kay let say that FDL and Krugman do not represent the Dem base.
What percentage of the DEM base wants to cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicade? 10% 20%
What percentage of the DEM base supports torture, and numerous drone attacks in Pakistan a nation with more Nukes than Great Britain? 10% 20%
What percentage of the Dem base hated the idea of the Public Option? 10$% 20%
What percentage of the DEM base hates UNIONS, look up Jeffrey Immelt, OBAMA’s Job Czar that sends USA jobs to China daily? 10% 20%
How many Dems think the Debt issue is bigger than the Job issue? 10% 20%
When you look at the issues and you ask the avg Dem voters where they stand most AGREE with FDL and Krugman.
Insipid, name a army that killed and attack it own soldiers that won any WAR? Obama punching hippies, will make him a lame duck by Jan 2012
The OBAMA WH and OFA need to figure out who their enemies are, attacking FDL and KRUGMAN will not help their cause at all.
The white house needs to view this video
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385×610056
Obama and Michelle worse nightmare, is on the way.
The attacks by FDL and Krugman will be nothing compared to the attacks from OBAMA black base.
A lot of my friends in the African American community are FURIOUS at OBAMA.
When you listen to the video, you hear the voices telling Maxine Waters, take the gloves off, attack OBAMA. “look at the smile that comes across Maxine Waters face, she knows, that OBAMA days are numbered. The OBAMA WH can not attack the black base, they can attack FDL and Krugman, but attacking the black base will unleash hell on OBAMA from all sides.”the black base is protecting OBAMA from the hell hounds, sounds like Maxine Waters is about invite the hell hounds to DC, to rip OBAMA and MICHELLE a new one.
Insipid? all of this is Kabuki, do you really think? the President that cuts Social Security, is going to get re-elected? really?
let us not forget this same president is looking at 10% un-employment
Insipid? at the end of day, you know that the DEM BASE agrees with FDL and Krugman.
The desperation coming out of the OBAMA WH is really sad, and funny at the same time.
OFA is falling a part, everything OBAMA touches falls a part, nothing new here
Insipid run for the life boats, the OBAMA titantic is sinking fast.
Got links to those lies, please?
Let’s have the lies told here about Obama with links supporting the argument.
I don’t know that FDL is having such a large effect but Sandoval is frustrated and decided to elevate the bots whose raison d’être is destroying Obama’s critics. This is not how a “winner” behaves. There must be trouble in New Mexico.
Dailykos… Ya know Markus..
Perfect, fuckin’ perfect.
Bravo Zulu.
That’s where I’m at. Obama can’t open his mouth anymore without setting my hair on fire. He is just so totally at odds with me ideologically, he bugs me as much as Bachmann. Actually, more. Sometimes, she’s weirdly entertaining. Obama is just condescending and arrogant.
He sent me into another rant Monday when he dissed the very calm and sensible question from a retired teacher on collective bargaining in public sector. She must share the burden. He must go on vacation.
I am not going to vote for cuts in Medicare, Social Security and public pensions. I mean I TRIED to vote against war last time and see how well that worked out.
You can’t have it both ways, you can’t say that 1. The vast majority of self identified liberals support the President and 2. Say that the President does not represent them. Unless if you’re aruing that Liberals are too stupid to know better.
Hey insipid arne’t you from OFA?? Or at least just got a contract to come here today to raise hell with the Pups??
My point is that your using a narative, and not the facts. The same upper 2% are spending 100s of millions to defeat Democrats and will to defeat Obama. My point is that FDL and Krugman are their useful idiots.
I’m not a centrist, i’m as liberal as they come. That’s why I support Obama.
That’s an argument that no longer works for many of us. Sure, Clinton could do the triangulation thing in good times and snuggle on over towards the right. But Obama has gone WAY too far.
I’m 60. He put raising the Medicare eligibility age to 67 on the table.
I will not consider voting for him. I know too many people that might literally kill.
I know we need a third party. Both major parties are filled with corrupt unfeeling liars and should be history. And that is the kindest thing I can say.
I support the unions in their fight, because the fight is for all working people. The PTB want to privatize everything – education, police, transportation highways, and the military, which is at least half privatized now. This cannot be allowed or what little is left of our democracy is gone. This fight, which is going on now, is a fight for our country and our world.
Privatization is like the free trade agreements, they hurt the citizens of all countries involved. Who makes out in these deals? The big multi-national firms and the politicians who promote these deals, that’s all.
The unions do have a problem. Many of my friends have little use for them. The reason is the pensions and the spiking. Spiking is when they load their hours just before they retire to drastically increase their retirement pay. Why should they get 5 times more retirement pay then the rest of us? We work for private companies and pay into Social Security, but Social Security retirement pay is a small amount compared to government pensions. I say we can all be reasonable and work it out later, we are in this together. But it really is not so. Recently a firefight died in my city and, at the funeral, a politician was asked to leave. Why? Because he had proposed pension reform. What is that about?
I believe we need to work out a system which is fair and just to all people. Unfortunately you can’t get into a discussion with a union person about this, without a fight ensuing. They say we fought for our benefits, you fight for yours. Well actually, my grandfather was one of those who fought for the rights and benefits they inherited.
All my rambling above was a long way of saying, a lot of people will not join a party if unions are the lead.
What is it you particularly like? The 3 wars, the dissing of labor, the proposed cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid?
That’s cool. They can join the Republican Party.
I love the smell of fear in the morning lol. I think their hatred of us at this point is really fear of us, and it is really starting to show as O’s polls plummet, and that means we are getting some real traction. Good for Jane and all others who have been the head of the spear. Gotta kill off the dinosaurs before the mammals can take their rightful place, since the dinosaurs have proven untrainable. Personally, I welcome their hate, it provides a good balance for what I’ve been feeling for a long time now.
Nobody here but us “effing” retards.
Here’s the thing. If we don’t primary Obama, Rahm is right. I’ve contemplated writing Barry-O to convince him to switch parties, you know, finally come out of the closet. But that’s not likely to happen. There are too many suckers in his own party who will vote against Repubs for fear of getting another round of Bush.
So, here’s another thing. The trajectory of Obama’s presidency cannot be distinguished from a theoretical extrapolation of Bush’s. In English, that means we are suffering through Bush III. War, privacy, Habeas, oil, you name it. 2012 as it stands is therefore likely to give us Bush IV regardless of whether Obama or some unnamed Repub is elected.
We shouldn’t want to play at this anymore. We shouldn’t give Rahm the opportunity to gloat.
I am very concerned that you and Jane repeatedly state, as accomplished fact, that the Progressive Caucus has been drummed out of the California Democratic Party. But none of the links you cite to says that, and my own Google and Ask searches have also turned up nothing.
We all know that the CDP has been threatening to revoke the Progressives’ charger, but there’s no report that the CDP has actually followed through on the threat.
I think the world of both of you, so I find your repeated statements of this purported fact to be rather dismaying. Can one of you please follow up with your excellent sources and let us know whether the CDP has actually brought this insane threat to manifestation?
Approval rating for Obama’s handling of the economic issues is down to 31 % among liberals, according to a recent WashPo/ABC poll.
Remember the saying, “It’s the economy, stupid”?
-stewartm
A little NM fodder whilst we’re on the subject – one political person I would say deserves a t-shirt would be David Bacon, who has a weekly radio show on the Santa Fe Community College station (think it is KSFM). He ran as Green Candidate for Governor against Bill Richardson a while back – when it was still possible to run Green party candidates in New Mexico. (I voted for him, best vote I’ve cast since the one for Nader!) He frequently mentions Firedoglake and passes on good points in his general rundown of local environmental concerns.
And by the way, really thanks to Obama and his dislike of true liberals is the fact that we managed to get elected a dyed in the wool Texan transplant Republican governor, who is doing her best to wipe out past progressive policies, so she must be warming the cockles of Obama’s heart. She’s determined to do things like cancel our new train service and eliminate driver’s licenses for immigrants, cancel clean air policies, that sort of thing. She’s getting pushback, and that’s the way it should be.
Forget New Mexico, Obama. We’re wise to you and your antics.
I’m sure Paul Krugman is worried to death about the opinion of a small-time political hack from New Mexico. /s
“charter” not “charger” in the middle paragraph. Damn edit feature won’t function properly. OTOH, maybe a “progressive charger” might be better than a charter. /s
Registered this afternoon just so s/he could come wag his/her tongue at the lefties.
Come on really? now you making us all laugh!
Insipid? who saved the Bush Tax cuts? Yes OBAMA
“the top 2% had to love this!”
Insipid? who put social security, medicare, and medicade on the table? YES OBAMA “the top 2% love this!”
Insipid? tell the FDL community something PROGRESSIVE obama has done the last 3 years? waiting?
Insipid? you do know OBAMA will probably raise a billion dollars this year, and most will come from the 2% that you say hate OBAMA
Insipid? Obama is own by the top 2%
Scott Walker said Union Workers needs to sacrifice, who said the same thing Monday? OBAMA? Obama told a teacher that UNION workers need to sacrifice

For LOL
*snort*
To be considered an idiot by one of your ilk is a compliment.
I’m an independent, and I’m long gone already. The Obama people need to realize that a lot of independents are on the progressive side of the ledger. We don’t think Dems, or at least the Dems who claim to represent us, are progressive enough to earn our support.
Good to see you Mr. Insipid. I know I haven’t seen you much at Crooks and Liars. Just a heads up here you need facts and links to be taken seriously here.
I’d LOVE a T_Shirt
warisacrime.org
To the best of my understanding
The day that the Progressive Caucus of the CDP called for there to be a challenger to Obama, is the day that the charters within the CDP were scheduled to be renewed
All other charters were renewed that day, but because of the nature of the resolution by the PC there was a very strong feeling that the charter for the PC would be voted down by the Executive Board, so the vote was delayed until the E-Board meeting in Nov
Edit: Or, what SD said
(PS Karen’s a friend of mine, SD. She and her husband rawk!)
I expanded on this answer in :
Ron Paul Offers dirt cheap “hand out” DVD’s explaining his vision; progressives, well…
Quit feeding the troll, guys.
Interesting. It’s about time REAL democrats split to make a new party. This faux republican BS has gone on for far too long…….since Reagan.
The “art of the possible” is totally worn out, its capitulation pure and simple and it’s destroying America.
People want to see a president FIGHT for something, anything, rather than mealy-mouth around about important things.
The only reason she’s getting pushback is that we have a dem legislature that hasn’t been corrupted….yet, by big money.
Remember Vigil-Giron? who helped Bush steal the state in ’04?
Far out!
Yes, I’ll take Dr. Krugman over Obama, any day. At least Krugman deserves his Nobel prize.
If you’re commenting on his writing for the general public, a “modest command of the obvious” puts him ahead of 95% of pundits, and it’s hard to demonstrate the depth of his thinking without losing the reader.
If you’re talking about the work for which he received his Nobel Prize, I think you’re being unfair. Ricardo’s notion of comparative advantage was as enshrine in economics as Newton’s concepts were in physics. These principals were of great use to conservative advocates of free trade. Krugman truly added another dimension to the landscape.
I told him he would links and facts guess he didn’t believe me.
Thank you! I only went to DKos once and that was a few years ago – I did not like the tone of the place.
It’s also known as the Orange Satan if you should happen to run across that moniker.
Sorry, that radio station more correctly is KSFR.
I just got back in from a trip to the doctor. So later here, but WAY TO GO FDL!
I really hate I missed the real time here. Hey, they may be reading but they sure aren’t paying attention.
It is clear they want us all to be ticky-tack boxes all in a row. What a nice way of changing the words around to say sit down and STFU! LOL!
(my face hurts from smiling)
Jane, you have to be feeling great to be placed next to the really straight-shooting Paul Krugman in importance. Congrats and keep it up!!!
Who’s your daddy, troll? There are professional economists on this site who know the drill. What’s yours?
The so-called “rookies” is the political operation of the WH – they have lost many of us long, long ago.
There are days when it truly pains me that I cannot pop in to see what’s up. Today is one of those days… all I can say is… KRGThulu. Best. Epithet. Ever : )
Makes a Firebagger proud ; )
The Obots and Dims are scared of this site because there ARE some pretty smart people here. Lot smarter than the cavalcade of shills and confidence men making up Prince Barry’s maladministration. Ho hum.
Bottom line, folks, we’ve got 10% unemployment (probably really over 20%) and what are they doing to stop the bleeding? What are they doing? You gotta ask. And shake your head. I don’t give a shit what Amanda Panda says abut control or whatever. And most people here are not priviledged like that airhead says. I know a goodly amount of FDL people are unemployed. Look, my house is underwater and me and my wife are constantly worried about losing our jobs. What the fuck does Amanda Panda have to worry about? She’s an access blogger and a Dim shill. I can’t believe her fucking house is underwater. Nuff said. Jesus.
And bumper stickers — don’t forget bumper stickers… I would put Proud Firebagger on my car in a heartbeat ; )
But does he really suck less? I don’t know. Do a pros versus cons chart. Who has more pros than cons when you go issue by issue? Ron Paul or Barack Obama?
LOL — 164 comments before I found one with the proper respect for Krgthulhu ; ) Cthulhu with a spreadsheet — brilliant! Thank you : )
It’s NOT an acceptable way to raise money because it is a propaganda war on good ideas.
Yeah, I’m way late also but that was a keeper!
*G*
I wouldn’t give either of them the time of day much less my vote.
Harumph.
This is one reason why I say we ought to get Harry Belafonte to primary Obama.
Same as a reply to onitgoes @ 109 above.
They can’t use that “racist’ crap against him.
From the brilliant organization that brought us Obama’s, “Win the Future,” slogan, whose acronym holds a much more popular meaning, we get the organizational name “OFA,” telling us what Obama has already REALLY done for the democratic principles the left strives to uphold. Active or passive tense, the “F,” doesn’t indicate, “FOR.” I’ve never bought a t-shirt with a slogan, but there’s a first time for everything. Where’s the link?
You just need to view these as
** an opportunity to make the DNC et al. pay return postage [if it's a mailing] for the privilege of having you tell them to fuck themselves; and
** an opportunity to tell them “face to face” [if it's a phone contact] the same thing.
From our point of view, these pleas and surveys are ALL “opportunity.” From their POV, not so much.
Ooooh, excellent, Mary.
Thank you.
I agree…however if anyone has no where to go now its the Unions. They are really “riding the edge” and Obama is not going to help them. They cannot hand over the working class to these assholes any longer or they are going to be voted out. When they no longer have bargaining rights left what else is there.
My mother is 89 years old and has been a life long Democrat. She has made yearly contributions to the DNC. She will no longer give to the DNC and should she be with us by the next election she will not vote. She said this is the worst she has ever seen in this country and she wants no part of it. She told me recently that she is not afraid of dying but what scares her is leaving behind her children in this disgusting country and world.
Please give your mom a kiss and a hug from me, metro, and thank her for her concern.
Would that Obama and the DNC could hear stories like this!!
Re “expiration” of the Cal Dem Party’s charter of its Progressive Caucus:
Thank you, SD.
If this is a strategy to attract independents, it’s stunningly ignorant. Most indies are low-information and certainly don’t follow the political blogosphere. Some of them may have a vague idea who Paul Krugman is but I guarantee 99.97% of them don’t know FireDogLake from Adam (sorry Jane!) so all that is being accomplished by the relentless hippie punching is that it is really pissing lefty activists off and for no tangible political benefit to the Obama campaign.
But I don’t think it is a strategy to attract independents. It’s a set up to blame the Left for 2012 Dem losses just as they blamed us in 2010 (even though we voted in our usual numbers and many of us worked our asses off to try and save our local Dems – it was the precious independents’, youth, and minority apathy that killed us). Right after the 2010 election, the little d-bag wanker deaniac83 from the People’s View wrote a screed similar to the one that the OFA d-bag Sandoval linked to in his email about how the losses were totes the DFH’s fault. Apparently President Obama, the DNC, the DSCC, the DCCC, the DGA, etc., were helpless before the teabagger onslaught but somehow a handful of disgruntled dirty fucking hippies on the internets persuaded millions of 2008 voters to sit out that election.
I liked that one too. Lovecraft’s short story about Obama and Wall Street?
Edited to note: in response to ET at 307 : )
LOL, who knew? ; )
At this point, I think the whole “centrist” strategy is a rouse for the Obama campaign’s real goal- which is to raise as much money as possible from Wall Street and other vested interests. They can pretend that their capitulations were designed to portray Obama is a “centrist”, when in fact they are intended as favors to the money class for “investments” in the campaign. So they trot out a pathetic political strategy as an excuse to cover essentially how corrupt they have become. In the end, these guys think that money is going to win the election, especially given the prospect of a flawed Republican opponent who will be vulnerable to “he/she’s so crazy/a flip flopper” 30 second attack ads.
I agree. I think that they are trying to hold on to the support of people who identify with the Democratic party of FDR and who cannot really see or accept what the party has become under the corporate dems. Obama and OFA have to protect against those base Democrats from becoming enlightened by the likes of Krugman who they have trusted in the past. The strategy to attack the “far Left” and Krugman is an effort to shore up the Democratic party base because if Obama loses the yellow dog Democrats who would vote for a yellow dog before they would vote for a Republican, then he cannot even run for a second term. And the fact is, if yellow dog dems start listening to Krugman or Jane Hamsher and the other firebaggers, Obama is done. The strategy reflects desperation and fear that the truth of Obama’s sell-out of the American people will become widely known, so they are attacking the truth-bearers.
Jane, You have a way with words. When I read, “If this is a brilliant political strategy on the part of OFA, someone has to explain it to me,” I burst out laughing. There go the Obama folks providing us with yet another WTF moment. And one more thing, I’m proud to be a Firebagger.
Sister Jane, can I suggest to OFA how to prevent Financial 9/11 which will sound logical to all of you and hopefully to OFA.
Appoint someone who shows the same determination, ethics in pursuing a case and smarts as Mr. Eliot Spitzer did as NY Attorney General as head of SEC. That should do it to prevent so called Financial 9/11.
I request everyone to read Matt Taibbi’s rolling stone article on SEC. It is eye-opener to everyone on why we have daily drama on wall street with chicken little falling sky episodes. We have all the solutions for the issues Free Market throws up which we learnt in a hard way before a century back and all that which needs to happen is have the right person at the top job not another new bill and bring back the repealed bills such as Glass Steagall Act.
Excellent write up – thanks for link
but as the comments show, it does not end the discussion.
“it can destroy that currency if it loses fiscal credibility” is not answered except by saying it will not be that bad. Currency debasement via inflation is one worry, but so is currency debasement via loss of confidence in fiscal credibility. Indeed the request for examples in real life is met – not by saying there are no examples where operations included no borrowings and just currency being issued was used – but instead by saying that all the current systems are MMT – which was not the question.
He’s so far away from reality that even the posters at dKos are going ‘wha????’
Hi – its one of your former fellow Ward Chairs in Abq -
Sadly I have to disagree with you. If you look at DFNM, a place that used to be the center of progressives in Albuquerque & NM, they simply don’t want to hear anything that questions Obama or any of the local big name Dem politicos. They almost worship Heinrich and he is so sold out its silly.
I fear there is no way to save the Democratic Party from within – it is simply too corrupt. The work you and other progressives do for them will be taken and used to further their corporate goals not to defend the ideals of the traditional Democratic Party. Do you really thing Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid can survive another 4 years of Obama? I just hope more of you see the futility of continuing to enable Obama and Company before he has wiped away all that Democrats have worked for over the last 100 years.
You said:
“What’s not to hate about Obama and his sycophants?”
Bravo!
Even as the OFA director dismisses Paul Krugman’s credibility, he is relying on a blogger with no credibility at all. In fact one with a mercurial past. Here are two posts of interest: the author wasn’t always an Obot, in fact he fairly well hated Obama before he drank the Kool Aid. But his opinion apparently trumps a Noble prize winner in OFA’s eyes.
Obama is walking toast in the next election. He lost the election the moment he doubled down on Bush/Cheney foreign policy, doubled-downed on Paulson’s economic plans with Bernanke and Geithner and went full tilt for the Catfood commission.
Its Bachman/ Perry ’cause a single swift thrust of the knife is faster than a thousand hope-y change-y.
Now if they would just spontaneously combust.
You are one of either the willfully ignorant or a product of No Child Left Behind if you think that Obama and his policies are “liberal”. They are not and neither are you, because your comments contradict your claim.
You only count 3 wars? I count at least 6 undeclared military actions that equate to wars: Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Libya and Somalia.
This is good news to me. The sooner the establishment Democratic Party officially abandons progressives the sooner progressives can get to work reforming government. I can endure 4 years of Romney to tell the establishment Clinton liberals to shove their trade deals/economic policy up their ass. We basically have Obamney in office now so 4 more years of the real Romney is no skin off my nose.
My own limited experience with career political operatives (I’m talking about people who run GOTV operations for a living, a very lucrative living) has impressed me by the enormous egos and hot-heads involved in those careers. The comments from Sandoval simply reflect the reality of the discourse that takes place behind closed doors. Those comments represent the prevailing attitude progressives are up against when they talk about reforming the Democratic Party from within. In my mind, it’s pointless to set a goal to reform the thinking of a guy like Sandoval. He’s an immovable object who firmly believes that money will always rule politics and you’re either on the side collecting that cash or you’re simply an idiot.
I should point out that Obama has burned all his bridges with me. He’s trying to accomplish things at wish Bush failed, like the gutting of Social Security and Medicare. Never mind his horrible civil rights record that Glenn Greenwald documents, quite well, mulitple times a week.
Yes, IF.
Although liberals like to pat themselves on the back for how smart they are, it’s long been clear that the Republican Party has them strategically out gunned on every level.
The Obama camp no doubt thinks it can capture the middle if it cuts off its left flank. FAT CHANCE that will happen with the remaining liberal culture warriors insulting everyone from “the racist working class in PA and Ohio” to Sarah Palin’s real Americans in small towns everywhere.
I hope it’s Ron Paul and not Rick Perry.
Agreed, Romney or Obama. Which one is more progressive? I’d have to say it’s Romney.
I never was an Obama supporter, or a Hillary supporter — my candidate was John Edwards.
Dumb Motherfuckers for America sounds right.
