Thomas Ferguson appeared on The Real News Network today. He says deflationary impact starts in October, to the tune of about $300 billion. And as for those defense cuts being meaningful….well, now we know.
If you haven’t read Tom’s Right Turn: The Decline of the Democrats and the Future of American Politics or Golden Rule: The Investment Theory of Party Competition and the Logic of Money-Driven Political Systems I highly recommend them. Tom saw it all coming a long time ago, perhaps more clearly than anyone.

Ms. Smith’s interview is also very good:

PS: The Acid Jazz channel features not only that vid but a few from Ms. Hamsher, Dean Baker, John Perkins but is mostly jazz, acid jazz and adventurous pop that you used to see on the old 120 minutes. And its free, so far. Wayyyy better than MTV. I actually play music and real news.
I’m liking the channel.
Jane you mean “Ferguson” not “Friedman” right?
Friedman would make it serious news not real news.
The first sentence in this article is “Thomas Friedman appeared on The Real News Network today.” Just pointing out the typo. :-}
I believe I’m blushing which is difficult being that I’m African American. You can also embed that channel anywhere just like a Youtube channel. In fact, its at the very top of my home site http://www.threeriversonline.com. Over 5000 vids in random play. I am childless so I consider that channel my bratty little kid whom I adore and love…
Ach! Thanks. Fixed.
I have it playing in the background now while I work. Highly recommended for those with jangled nerves today, the perfect antidote:

I know, I was just making a not very funny joke about people considering Thomas Freeloading Friedman a “serious” person.
I know you were. Friedman is one of the Koolaid pushers that many Americans seem incapable of weaning themselves from. But I’m optimistic that people are beginning to wake up. Now if we can get our representatives to do the same…
Good-luck with that, almost all representatives represent the Corporations.Like I have said many times before there is no betterment on the horizon,I know it’s difficult to imagine that we have been so royally screwed by both political parties….we are where we are cuz of both Dems & GOP.
There simply is no way to fix the corruption unless we are prepared to get in the streets, that’s the only way.
I heard Wasserman-Shultz boasting how what they voted for yesterday was going to be good for the economy……in 8 months lets reminder of the lies shes sputtered on 2ND August,2011.
Over at Orange Land they point out that Obama’s likely pivot to jobs is going to be in the form of pushing trade deals with South America, including Colombia where people who try to unionize are killed. We’ll lose more jobs while they reward a country with such brutal policies.
It’s only going to keep getting worse.
We are so fucked.
Some OT, and say what you will about HuffPo and their one-foot-in-the-tabloid-pond style, these days, but Jason Linkins got off a great lead for his piece there today:
“Newt Gingrich accuses Obama of following Paul Krugman…which would be news to Paul Krugman.” :o)
SteeleyDan3 – very nice music. Thanks
Hey, Krugman told him to pivot to jobs and that’s what he’s doing. /s
This is a real good time to bring this up:
The Obama Deception HQ Full length version
on YouTube
I thought he was pivoting to fundraisers and the Vineyard.
Just a note to say thank you Jane.
Oh, and a bumper sticker chuckle I saw yesterday:
“It’s We the People, not Me the President”
You never see anything like this on Fox, MSNC or CNN….Even the news via Russia Today is more thoughtful than any of the above and that is sad
And in case you didn’t know this about Wassername-Schultz:
We need to pivot for a primary challenger.
when I opened the link there was a video of the Mahavishnu Orchestra and I saw the greatest concert in 1972..John McLaughlin opened for Frank Zappa at the Phila Spectrum…George Duke, Billy Cobham Jan Hammner. Ian and Ruth Underwood…Cpt Beefhart was even there..time is moving way too fast!
Just in time for this

I once joked on Facebook that the channel was kind of a shrine to John Mclaughlin, who’s still alive. In fact, if you watch the channel it definitely seems like the many ages and faces of John Mclaughlin, Or Larry Coryell. Some guys like Jean Luc Ponty look pretty the same…and that must have been some concert. Its referenced here:

Ruth Underwood makes the argument that Maha gave Frank a harder sound…
And I’m glad you guys Twain, Jane, etc. like the channel. But it’s not all easy listening background music…
Thanks for this Jane. I don’t always remember to catch Real News but occasionally someone puts up a link and I go there.
What he says pretty much matches what I have read elsewhere.
No encouraging at all.
spot on
RT and RNN are becoming the ONLY media voices for non-corporate unbiased media.
I am hoping Current TV can catch on.
