Someone should tell the President that if he wants to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits before defense spending, he’s not in any position to be giving advice to progressives.

Will you take time to go visit the office of your member of Congress or Senator tomorrow, and remind them that the American people overwhelmingly oppose cutting Social Security and Medicare benefits, and that you will will not support them in 2012 if they take part in doing that?

If the Republicans were really worried about protecting the private sector from dangerous and unnecessary government uncertainty, they would vote to eliminate this foolish debt ceiling limit altogether.

The bright side (if there is a bright side) is that Warren will be able to speak more freely if she’s not the head of the agency, and we could use some adults in the conversation right now.  A giant manufactured debt ceiling crisis is being used to force Shock Doctrine austerity on the country.  I hope somebody will ask her how she’d handle things if she was President. Florida is a key swing state in the 2012 presidential election, and Obama is already struggling there.  It also has the highest percentage of senior citizens of any state in the union. Obama’s plan to raise the Medicare retirement age is functionally the equivalent of voucherizing Medicare for many seniors age 65 and 66. It is just like the Paul Ryan plan, but in a small increment for now. It would radically restructure Medicare as we know for millions of new retirees, and more importantly set the precedent for how to slowly voucherizing all Medicare using a series of small retirement age increases.
