Stop the BP Bailout: 50,000 Petition Signatures by Next Week

By: Michael Whitney Wednesday June 16, 2010 3:58 pm

While the President reiterated that $20 billion isn’t a cap, it’s important to know how much more BP could and should pay. One analyst said it could be as much as $63 billion; I suspect and hope it will be in the hundreds of billions. That’s why it’s important we make clear BP should be responsible for every dime of damage from its disaster. Anything less is a taxpayer funded bailout of BP. Can you add your name and help us reach 50,000 signatures before we deliver our petition to the Senate next week?

Democrats Add A Few More “FU’s” to Labor

By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday June 16, 2010 9:23 am

Remember when Dick Gephardt was running for President as “Mister Labor?’ I sure do. Well, no more. Add his name to the long list of middle fingers being thrown at labor by the Democratic party. He’s just signed on to help Sodexo in the midst of their dispute with the SEIU, as has former Gore [...]

Sierra Club: Pro-Corporate, Anti-Grass Roots

By: Jane Hamsher Tuesday June 15, 2010 11:10 am

There was some lively response yesterday to my post on the Sierra Club and its reluctance to criticize the Obama administration for its handling of the oil spill. There is no shortage of targets: the Center for Biological Diversity exposed Ken Salazar for granting new drilling permits after he said there was a moratorium. Food [...]

Peterson Fdtn. Head Nostalgic for Debtor’s Prison; Is Indentured Servitude Next?

By: Jon Walker Tuesday June 15, 2010 10:12 am

David Walker is the president and CEO of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, founded by billionaire financier Peterson as a think tank on fiscal issues. On CNBC’s “Squawk Box” recently, Walker seemed to long for a return to debtor’s prisons. If he’s nostalgic for debtor’s prison, the next step is to advocate the return of [...]

Sierra Club and Gang Green: Oil Spill Cleanup “Just Fine”

By: Jane Hamsher Monday June 14, 2010 8:46 am

Josh Gerstein has an article in Politico on the massive silence coming out of the enviros on the BP oil catastrophe, which has been notable ever since the rig collapsed. This weekend the groups took out an ad in the Washington Post, not to criticize the administration for their response, but to praise the President [...]

Finding Leverage Points, Flexing Muscles: Lessons from the Anti-Saloon League, Part Four

By: Jon Walker Sunday June 13, 2010 6:00 am

Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it and I shall move the world. –Archimedes Leverage is literally a force multiplier. In politics, a relatively small number of very dedicated volunteers, donors and voters can have an impact far greater than their numbers if they act with precision. The [...]

Accountability Now: Successes and Failures in Arkansas

By: Jane Hamsher Friday June 11, 2010 10:56 am

Ryan Grim and Sam Stein have an excellent piece on the coordinated efforts of various groups to support Bill Halter’s challenge to Blanche Lincoln.  It represents the evolution of the efforts behind the Ned Lamont and Donna Edwards races, and now that the election is over, deserves some discussion. Accountability Now grew out of the [...]
