The Attack on Progressives Who Won’t Vote For the Senate Bill Has Begun

By: Jane Hamsher Friday January 22, 2010 10:24 am

f you don’t want progressives to buckle under pressure from the White House apologists and get railroaded into passing the Senate bill, you better act right now. Because the administration and all the children of Cass Sunstein have way, way more ability to put pressure on them than we do, and unless everyone takes action, they’re gonna jam this shitty bill on all of us.

Call progressive members of Congress and tell them to vote against the Senate bill now.

In Act Of Collective Insanity, Senate Democrats Don’t Collectively Back Reconciliation Sidecar

By: Jon Walker Friday January 22, 2010 9:50 am

Well this is just a remarkably stupid move from Senate Democrats. After ruining health care reform and costing themselves a seat, they refuse to promise to start working on a reconciliation sidecar measure that might just make their bill passable in the House. From Politico: Part of the negotiations center on whether Reid can provide [...]

Time For Obama To Do A Domino’s Pizza Commercial

By: Jon Walker Friday January 22, 2010 9:17 am

Have you see the new Domino’s Pizza ads? The ones where the Domino’s Pizza chiefs read extremely critical letters and watch brutal focus groups? People say the pizza is awful and tastes like cardboard. The Domino’s Pizza chiefs apologizing and admitting the critics are right, but they conclude with the Domino’s team saying that they [...]

Earl Blumenauer: “Stand by Your Word” = “Taking Money From Scott Brown”

By: Jane Hamsher Friday January 22, 2010 7:20 am

It appears Earl Blumenauer thinks he can make a pledge about something people really care about (a public option), break it, and then scold people into showing up for him because the alternative is worse. But he’s probably not unique.

Call members of Congress and ask them if they intend to stand by their pledge to vote against the Senate bill. Let them know that you don’t think they’re “monsters” for keeping their promises. Let’s see how deep this “Bluemnauer problem” is. Because if they don’t keep that promise, the Senate bill could pass (and despite reports to the contrary, don’t think they’re not thinking about it).

Fixing Health Reform Through the Reconciliation Sidecar: 13 Improvements, 6 Ways to Save Money, 4 Important Benefits

By: Jon Walker Thursday January 21, 2010 2:57 pm

Today’s reports continue to point to the reconciliation sidecar strategy as the preferred option on Capitol Hill for moving forward with health care reform. The strategy requires the House to pass the Senate bill “as is” only after the Senate has passed  measures with several fixes to the Senate bill that can then pass the [...]

Everyone is Dennis Kucinich Now

By: Jane Hamsher Thursday January 21, 2010 7:59 am

The results in Massachusetts, Arkansas, New York, Ohio and Indiana show that Democrats are probably a lot closer to Dennis Kucinich than they are to the so-called “centrists” like Joe Lieberman whose corporatism has dictated the terms of the Senate health care bill.  Raw Story spoke to Kucinich: The 13-year congressman lamented the lack of [...]

Public Option Resurrected From Near Death, Thanks To Special Election, Reconciliation

By: Jon Walker Thursday January 21, 2010 6:29 am

With the loss of their 60th vote in the Senate, Democrats are going to need to find a new way to pass health care reform. The most popular idea is for the House to pass the Senate bill as is with many important “fixes” passed just before or at effectively the exact same moment using [...]

By: Jon Walker Wednesday January 20, 2010 5:26 pm

Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND) today stated that he is open to the reconciliation sidecar strategy for passing health care reform. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) made clear his [...]
