Marion Berry takes a swipe at Obama on his way out the door:
Berry recounted meetings with White House officials, reminiscent of some during the Clinton days, where he and others urged them not to force Blue Dogs “off into that swamp” of supporting bills that would be unpopular with voters back home.
“I’ve been doing that with this White House, and they just don’t seem to give it any credibility at all,” Berry said. “They just kept telling us how good it was going to be. The president himself, when that was brought up in one group, said, ‘Well, the big difference here and in ’94 was you’ve got me.’ We’re going to see how much difference that makes now.”
What a crock.
According to the Center for Public Integrity:
So far this year, the Blue Dog Political Action Committee is on track to shatter all its fundraising records; in fact, the total for the first six months of 2009 — more than $1.1 million — is greater than what was raised in the entire 2003-04 fundraising cycle. Furthermore, according to analysis by the Center for Public Integrity of CQ MoneyLine data, the energy, financial services, and health care industries have accounted for nearly 54 percent of the Blue Dog PAC’s 2009 receipts (up from 45 percent in 2004).
Opensecrets ranked the 52 members of the Blue Dog caucus in order of money they had taken from the health sector since 1989. Berry came in 10th at $571,664.
Marion Berry is the Vice Chair of the Blue Dog health care task force. The Blue Dogs were responsible for jamming every single shitty piece of lobbyist-written legislation into the health care bill. They decided early on to try to make the House bill more like the Senate bill, because they said that would be more popular. Take a look at the polling — it isn’t by a long shot. In swing districts like Berry’s.
If Berry wants to blame anyone, he should look to his Blue Dog bretheren who have been soaking up the lobbyist cash — and delivering.
Did Obama put a gun to his head and make them take it or something?

About FDL Action
If anything good comes out of the bloodletting over the next few election cycles, it’s that hopefully we’ll have fewer Blue Dogs after the dust settles. They would seem to be the most vulnerable.
Call ‘em out, Jane, into the broad daylight.
Congress depends upon the public NOT knowing far too many things.
A sad nation it is where the political cla$$ arrogantly counts on the deliberately achieved ignorance of the people.
But now, the people are looking, and the mists of confusion (again, intentionally created) are withering in the light of day.
The people are paying attention, and a perfect storm of genuine anger is about to break.
You have made a difference Jane, a very much appreciated difference.
People, more every day, listen to you and, most importantly, trust you.
DW
Knowing nothing about him I looked bit so I could understand his sentences. He was elected in 1996 and thus, we can assume, helped to save the Ds from destruction. I don’t know how I missed this story before. By dragging them to the right. So he is telling us that Obama and the Ds are in trouble because in 1994 the Ds, using a farmer metaphor, lost some chaff and now Ds are going to lose wheat.
Perhaps he is angling for a Medal of Freedom, the previous guy gave them out like they were hotcakes.
That being the case, then, Good Riddance!
I’d rather have a Republican I know won’t support anything I support than a gd Blue Dog who plays hard-to-get, argues the Republican line (see Harold Ford in NYT today!), insists on horrible quid pro quos like the abortion language or state exchanges, and then when he gets everything he asked for, he votes no, just like a Republican anyway.
Yup. Go Jane!
Perfect storm of anger. Check.
Wow. According the Berry, Obama *thinks* it does not matter what bad things he makes congress do because *they* *have* *him.* Wtf?? WTFFF??
Oh, yeah, baby: more campaigning, that will work. That is going to make it worse. People will know the truth and SEE Obama lying to them as a strategy to FIX this mess.
Blue Dog Dems are useles.
The problem I have with Blue Dogs is most would never get elected without progressive votes and once they get elected they act like they are the chosen.
Bush ended the idea or concept of a Blue Dog, let them join the tea party movement, and ruin the GOP.
Bye Bye Blue Dogs.
It’s beyond obvious that these guys don’t care what’s popular in their districts. As long as you can make enough noise to cloud the issues, and get some tea baggers to stage a beer-gut revolution at the next town hall meeting…The rest is up to big campaign cash.
The retiring bribee is at this very moment, in his kitchen, preparing his shit sandwich. He has his own bakery so he can have it with oh so much bread and oh so little shit. His mistake is to believe the people of his state will allow him to live. Something tells me they are pissed at him and his.
The Blue Dogs are going down in large part because of the compromises their lobbyist owners ordered them to make. Boo hoo hoo.
Fewer Blue Dogs would be fine, but will it happen? McCain won AR-01 in ’08. That’s more than enough excuse for the Democratic Party leadership to go looking for another ConservaDem (the bigger the sellout the better, too).
Not long after Obama beat McCain in NY-23, the Democratic Party leadership recruited Bill Owens, who wasn’t a registered Democrat and didn’t support a public option at the time they dug him up.
Is he talking about Healthcare or something else that might not be on our radar like Farm policy? Because by forcing every Voter to buy/bailout the insurance industry by making them buy health insurance well that makes it seems to me that Obama stuck his neck out for the Blue Dogs and cost us Ted’s Senate seat
So just what is Marion smoking?
Obama’s popularity maybe higher than the GOP’s but he has no coattails.
So whats Rahm’s plan to save the Blue Dogs? The real plan blaming us only protects Rahm’s Reputation .
Marion’s statement looks like spin to indirectly blame us and pathetically push a narrative that Obama is to Left and thats why we lost Ted’s seat.
The Main Stream Media will of course carry this story but making people believe it is another matter.
So, what’s the plan to get a progressive into this seat?
Yeah, like the “left” wanted them to give Colin Peterson a half a trillion dollars in pork for the Blue Dogs to to pass the Big Coal bailout bill aka Cap and Trade.
/s
We need to find a candidate first any local Dems in district know somebody is there anyone willing to run against Rahm’s pick who I’m sure will have tons of Dem cash?
The Media of course never points out or contradicts Blue Dogs unless they are Lefties. Its like they are protected by Darth’s field of non questionability.
Good Afternoon Jane and Firedogs,
jaysus, what a catty, little WATB bitch. and was that the same gun to their heads that forced the August recess, hmmmmm ?
How is Cap and Trade doing I’m against it big oil and Coal I thought were against it it seems I’m wrong. Are the Tea Baggers still against it? I see it as a bailout of Wallstreet who will collect fees.
I expect more Blue Dogs to retire Rahm will be scraping the bottom of the barrel to find candidates.
Since by definition Blue Dogs are in no way Lefties, this would be a classic oxymoron (I.E., mutually exclusive words never to be used together without subjecting folks to laughter) :})
Ford op-ed: Democrats, Get Down to Business.
There’s no way NY Dems will give him the nomination if he keeps up with this bullshit. Keep it up, Harold!
Btw, he was testing waters in Buffalo today:
An Unofficial Candidate, on the Trail.
Ford tests the waters in Buffalo swing.
He says he’s giving himself till the end of Feb to decide whether or not to run.
Every time I look at these political payoffs, I remind myself of how many of our children and elderly did not receive clothing, food, shelter and basic medical care as the price. Unlimited Greed = Sociopathy.
OT the Dems sent me an Email about the State of the Union I sent a reply it just got returned as spam.
I’ve been thinking of getting off all the Dem Emailing lists any thoughts yes/no or just how can I get off these lists?
Hey Mr. Berry – don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!
WATB indeed. Blue Dogs hate, HATE HAYYT being called out on their crap. Fiscal conservatives my eye. Whore seems much more apt.
The Blue Dogs may be getting more money to campaign on, but that doesn’t mean Democrats are going to come out in force to vote for them.
I’m still on Ford’s mailing list from ’06. I stay on the lists. That’s just me. If you want to send a message, go to the contact page of the website of DNC, DCCC, DSCC etc and send it that way.
Which direction do ya think we could make him run with slingshots and cracker balls?
Oxymoron but the MSM buys it everytime sometimes I think the Media being dumbed down has cost them readers/viewers. Dumbing down the news was suppose to attract a wider audience however if that audience doesn’t read to well why would they be interested in real news?
I think Newspapers write to 7th grade reading levels it just occurred to me they have reporters who while having much better grammar than I also have the critical reading skills and educational backgrounds of 7th graders.
George Will debunking Climate change, Bobo writing about how good the bush economy was before the banking crisis started heck Ben Stein has a decent education but he was telling people to buy as the bank stocks were still going down.
Our Elites however are not allowed to fail Free Market selection of the fittest does not apply to them.
So, they are getting so many (angry) replies that the spam filters got tripped? LOL.
One other point I need to make. Since Blue Dogs our real hard conservatives and they vote with the Republicans most of the time, having a republican take their place will not make that much difference other than being able to say you have the majority. It’d time to flush out this conservative Blue Dogs just like the republicans are doing with the moderates in their party.
That is right. NOW it is a big hurry. Gotta go with what we have. Cannot take any time to fix anything. Big hurry. People are dying. Big big hurry.
August, not so much.
But the legislation does not take effect FOR YEARS. Yup, big hurry. Lets get going.
Give me a break.
I’m thinking I might end up sending all my new diaries to one of them groups maybe some old ones or I might ditch their lists all together still thinking.
Something went wrong with a link:
Ford in Buffalo today (NY Times):
An Unofficial Candidate, on the Trail.
That would be a story if we could confirm it I’m sure its not the first time:)
- Cry Me A River Lyrics
Now you say you’re
lonelyleavin’You
criedhowled the whole night throughWell, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
Now you say you’re sorry
For bein’ so untrue
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
You drove me, nearly drove me out of my head
While you never shed a tear
Remember, I remember all that you said
Told me
lovemost Dems were too plebeianTold me you were through with
methem andNow you say you’re leaving…Well,
just to prove you doa farethewell to youCome on and cry me a river, cry me
us a riverWe cried a river over you
We cried a river over you
Dems cried a river over you
Progressives cried a river over you
I would expect Rahm to get rid of known blue dogs for unknown blue dogs.
My guess is that Wall Street or whomever ran the pollution credit exchange would be the biggest winners in Cap and Trade. The companies that would prefer to buy a few pollution credits rather than be faced with laws to stop them being a distant second. People living near where ever a company paid to pollute being far-and-away the biggest losers.
So, anyone wanna guess what’s next for Berry’s seat?
Btw, Kos mentioned Jane in his latest post on DK’s front page.
If you scroll down the page sometimes there’s an unsubscribe tab.
Their email server told your email client that your email was identified as spam? I think they must have plugged it in backwards.
Berry makes “swamp” sound like the new briar patch.
Natalie Cole, with just the right amount of disdain.
Stealth Blue Dogs who run as Lefties Damm you could play 13 dimensional chess new candidates without paper trails we can find. This could be a problem.
Thanks will check later.
Or they read my stuff and I’m on a list no Lefty emails much less ideas seem to get into the WH. Heck I to be fair probably got on Darth’s list of unwanted people.:)
If the Medicaid expansion, and Medicare buy-in and Part D Medicare drug donut hole fixed, and drug re-importation can not get done, what is the point of electing Democrats. To get GOP on board set up tort reform that is a limit on punitive damages but not other damages – and offer MD school loan forgiveness for not doing fee for service business (that would cover just about all charity and gov MD’s) and would likely move some others into a pay for a year of coverage model.
The ins. co. business model is dead as they have priced themselves out of the market. There is no reason to give them %600 billion over 10 years to ease the pain as they adjust their business model from 30% pf premium not paid on claims to 10% not paid on claims. The CEO bonus in a 10% world will still be huge at the top – there will just be fewer in the middle between your premium and your claim – indeed Medicare, using Ins Co workers under service only contracts has a 3% not paid on claims history.
MadMa at 37′s guess is my bet for Rahm’s candidate we need a local to report if we have a candidate in district.
A carbon tax is the only approach that works – cap and trade slows the growth by giving government a stick – but it is a very small stick.
I think McCain won in Berry’s district. Dems will use that as an excuse to put forward a sellout.
GM Volt gets 220 MPG just sell a million of these cars the first year and I think we will cut pollution enough. Average MPG of an American car is in the mid 20′s I believe so that 10 times less pollution per vehicle.
All Obama has to do is get the price lower so we can sell a million Volts the first year. And hopefully 2 million the next and after that Volt Minivans and trucks.
Agreed but in Obama districts Madma I think is right Stealth Blue Dogs fake Lefties.
Have any constituents visited the offices of such as Berry to show him the polls? Do they know about these polls? It would be great to have some film of anyone in the office who is shown the polls, how they respond.
“Polls, schmolls. We got cash, it’s money talks to us.”
So Rep Blue Dog Berry is gonna pack up his tea cups and go home in a huff??!! Yay.
I don’t know if these Blue Dogs are: a) in utter denial, b) totally arrogant & contemptuous because of all the lobbyist cash they’ve raked in, c)craven, or d) all of the above.
That Berry could write his little hissy fit gives me some pause, but I’m happy to wave buh-bye. What differnce does it make if he’s in office or the GOP – not a trick question. The answer is: none.
As long as we continue to burn fossil fuels such as coal and Nat Gas to produce electricity, pollution levels will not decline. When you do the math, a million Volts being recharged daily to provide propulsion for their owners would seriously tax the existing electrical grid. Google the amount of watts needed per mile for a Volt…
Beautiful! You know that by heart? Goood on ya.
McCain won AR-01 because he wasn’t black. Pure and simple.
If there is one thing I know about it’s the AR Delta / farm owner type, because that is a part of my own heritage.
The NAME: “Marion Berry”, should be retired from politics. I personally will never vote for anyone named “Marion Berry”
Dear Marion,
When you shit in your political bed, what do you expect it smell like, Chanel #5? Or are you one of those selfish political psychotics that think there are no consequences for your actions?
Get a clue, traitor. You get what you pay for.
In addition, the Volt only has a range of 40 miles solely on electric power, then the hybrid system takes over. And it costs over 40 grand.
Electric cars are only a stopgap solution until we can get widescale infrastructure to support genuine alternative fuel vehicles such as hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. BMW has one that is production ready, the 735H. A hydrogen based fuel economy, of course, would be the oil companies nightmare.
I actually live in the district and I have to say I am glad to see him go. We are talking about a guy who is just to the right of the Kaiser. I can’t stand that he calls himself a Democrat while always wandering to the right. He is a hold over from the days of good old boy politics and corrupt bargains.
Now I have a reason to get excited about this election what ever democrat runs I am going to look into volunteering for his campaign.
Hydrogen fuel cell cars have been “five years away” for the last fifteen years. When I last checked hydrogen cars cost about $1,000,000 to make. I think hybrid and electric cars are a pretty decent solution.
I had a friend who worked on the UCLA “Gremlin” program in the late 70′s.
Shut down after they made it work because the project was funded by…
General Motors.
And it did work.
