Lois Herr has a message for all of you helping to defend reproductive choice by phone banking and spreading the word through One Voice For Choice,
“Don’t forget it’s Stupak/PITTS - I’m the one running against him in PA-16 and I want everyone to know that there’s a radical Republican co-sponsor who should lose his seat over this.”
She’s right. Most of us forget that the Stupak/Pitts amendment’s true author was Joe Pitts, who has one of the most radical, anti-choice records in congress.
|
Pitt’s record puts truth to Stupak’s lie that their anti-choice amendment does nothing but codify existing law. No, these blood-brothers in the C Street “Family” had one goal, and one goal only, to make safe, legal abortion a thing of the past.
Lois Herr knows this all too well when she decided to run against Joe Pitts,
I want to help solve our health care, economic, environmental and energy problems, and all Pitts wants to do is stand in the way of women using private funds to pay for full reproductive coverage. His one issue is abortion and he will make it a crime again if he can. He and his C Street cult are hijacking healthcare and I object. For this alone he should lose his seat in Congress. Watching Pitts and his fellow radicals in Congress rant and rave about women’s bodies, whether it’s abortion or mammograms, makes me angry. What hypocrites! They refuse to support a public option in healthcare because they don’t want government involved, yet they would have government make for women the most intimate and personal life decisions. And then there are others in Congress who would accept restrictions on women in order to pass a healthcare bill, any heathcare bill. Time for me to fight again for basic women’s rights. Not on my watch will the clock be turned back.
Lois Herr is putting her money where her mouth is. Despite the holiday season, and her busy schedule as a candidate, she’s taking time out to phone bank for One Voice For Choice. Come out tomorrow night and support her, and the future of reproductive rights in this country. Sign up at the link below.

About FDL Action
Good Luck Ms Herr!
Am I missing something here, or do I just need to dust off my super-duper microscope?
Cool! Candidate Challengers! Best of luck Ms. Herr!
“# Rated 0% by NARAL, indicating a pro-life voting record. (Dec 2003)
# Rated 100% by the NRLC, indicating a pro-life stance. (Dec 2006)”
same jalope, new paint job, – real cool!
Somehow, I’m less than impressed.

Chris Murphy

Etc.
does she need a campaign manager?

I’ve taken a look at Lois Herr’s website. It’s excellent. Substantive. I’m not too surprised that she can’t take a stronger stand for single payer Medicare for All, given PA-16. But otherwise, she looks like an excellent candidate.
I’ll put up a link to the ActBlue donation page at Circleparkforum.
Good luck, Lois Herr!
Good Luck indeed Ms Herr
just a cursory review of Pitts’ record and history as an anti choicer – he is a serious operator who knows where to find the levers – whether his Party is in power or not - it should be referred to as Stoogepak as Pitts has an established m.o. of doing his dirty work via a Dem on one of his committees
it made me even angrier at Leadership and so called Advocacy insiders who knew from experience this would be coming and didn’t stop it
@gayle i’m sure she’d say thanks but she has a FANTASTIC campaign manager…what she needs are volunteers and $…and i should go on record and say not only do i live in her district but I call her a friend…but I first met her as a candidate and in 2006 I was her scheduler…PA-16 couldn’t have a better option than Lois and Pitts’ time is long past for retirement!
But this is an almost precise illustration of a point I’m trying to make on and off here the last few days. Because there are Democrats who are as bad on these issues as Republicans, you seem to be saying we shouldn’t get all that excited about taking one of the worst Republicans on.
Why is that exactly?
If at least some of the Democrats are in bed with Republicans such as Pitts, this means we should give Pitts a free pass?
I say, hell no. No free pass just because the GOP is doing what is expected. Beating a Republican asshole is still no less valuable than beating a Democratic asshole. The solid wall the Republicans have been able to maintain is what gives the Democratic turncoats their “super-power”
What the hell is wrong with us that we say stuff like this? Seems to me we’re making it all about US, about OUR disillusionment with Obama, instead of the mission of progressive politics.
It’s a mistake. Go, Ms Herr!
Thank you so much. The ActBlue link on the sidebar looks great. She really appreciates your support.

We have a limited amount of resources. They need to be targeted.
Don’t forget that Pitts’ antipathy towards families goes beyond choice. He is also against paid (or unpaid, for that matter) time off to take care of a sick child, to be sick yourself, or to take care of an elderly parent. The man runs on a “family friendly” program and then votes against everything that might be family friendly that the Chamber of Commerce thinks might be injurious to a bottom line. The last attempt to add cram down as an amendment this past week was voted down and Pitts voted against it. The man pretends to be a Christian, but he’s in the Family mold venerating Mao, Stalin and Hitler for taking power into their own hands.
Sped, I grew up in Rohrerstown and my family still lives there. I’ve donated to Lois in the past and hope to be able to do it again. Best of luck to her. Let me know if there is anything I can do besides financial help.
“Given PA 16″
That’s a mouthful. Lancaster County was one of the very few places in the US to go for Barry Goldwater in his campaign and things haven’t changed a whole lot. In the last election, the city itself went for Obama, but the county went for McCain. The county is heavily Mennonite, and not the kind of Mennonite that spends its time working in the third world for peace or as one of the Christian Peacekeeper Teams (www.CPT.org), but the kind who see everything through the rightwing christianist glasses. The Mennonites working for peace in the world generally are Canadians, and I might add that they are doing a heck of a lot more than any other group I can think of with the possible exception of the Quakers.
