I’m going to be in Rockville, Maryland on Saturday phone banking for One Voice For Choice against Bart Stupak.
We’ve been having incredible response, calling people who are strong Democrats and likely voters, and telling them how extreme Stupak is. A lot of people don’t follow the conversation that closely, and they appreciate when people call and tell them what’s going on.
Join me at 3pm in Rockville and have fun phone banking together at Sue Cohen’s house.
You can find a phone banking event near you, and get more information at One Voice for Choice.

If I could fly across the country, I’d be there! But I’ll be at our own phone bank here in Mar Vista, CA. In fact, we have LOTS of phone banks this weekend! Click on the cities below to RSVP and to get directions!
We have phone banks coming up this weekend in the Maryland, New York City, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Colorado, Texas and California.
Join one of phone bank efforts already going, or if there’s not one in your district, to start one of your own. It’s easy, it’s fun, and best of all, you will make a difference.

Oh crap! We just moved out of Rockville, off Montrose Rd, right at the point when the nearby 355 underpass was finished. Mind how you go, the drivers are maniacs.
As much as I try, I can’t find anything specific either here or at the OVFC site about exactly what will be said during each call. Will this be an information call to those who have requested them? A call asking people to call their reps about their position on Stupak? A call asking for donations? All of the above, none of the above?
And how does a sort of warm and fuzzy maybe-we’ll-defeat-some-of-them-in-2010 exercise affect the much more near-term problem of legislation (that’s D.C.-speak for “**** sandwich”) that’s being violently forced down the throats of America right now?
Even though I’ve been diligently working for public health care (and thus against Stupak, of course), it’s hard to decide whether I want to participate in this when the call for participation is so vague.
Anyone out there care to help clarify just what the heck each call will cover, and how the whole exercise would affect the outcome on Stupak?
I’ll hope the rest of the phone banking activity is more focused than this particular call – because I think we need to be as clear, focused and effective as possible if we’re going to achieve what we want. And since the parts tend to reflect the whole, the vagueness here in this part that makes it hard for even a motivated person like myself to know what’s going on and whether and how I bring my energy in support of it is something that should thus be checked out in the whole of the action (overall goal, structure, scripts, all of it). That heads up is my best contribution – and far more important than any phone calls I might make.
Maybe I’ll see some of you tomorrow, too.
Phonebanking is a great way to raise awareness and it can be fun if there are a lot of people doing it together to support the morale.
