Move On reports over $2M committed to primary any Dem Senator that filibusters health care reform. That’s in the one day since I received an email with “the nightmare scenario” subject line asking for pledges.

Altmire might want to take note. The people we’ve been waiting for are still organized and activated. “Yes we can” is about us, and we’re fulfilling our promise.

As a committed liberal I have had a belly-full of Blue Dogs like my Senator
Evan Bayh. If this sorry excuse for a Democrat votes against the public option, I will be forced to vote for his Republican opponent next time around. I have never voted for a Republican but if I am going to be represented by someone with Republican ideals, I may as well vote for one that has the courage to call himself a Republican.

Just took my four-year-old son to the polls, where he joined me in the booth, watched me flip the levers, and then got to slide the giant red lever to the left to record the vote. Dialog immediately afterward:

Him: What did you voted for?
Me: I voted for mayor, and city council, and comptroller.
Him: Did you voted for food?
Me: [pause] Yes. Yes, I voted for food. Now let’s go have some lunch.
[We walk for a city block.]

Him: I’m hungry. Come on, let’s go eat the food that you voted for.

[No less surreal than the actual campaigns.]

so the lesson from your little anecdote is – don’t involve the country in costly, failed, deadly, missionless wars, like the Democratic Party under Johnson did, because eventually people will not vote for the party that just promises to stupidly ‘stay the course’ until they get to the ‘light at the end of the tunnel.’

the lesson is not to those who wisely decided not to waste their votes on a warmonger, but on the Democrats in power not to perpetuate stupid wars.

if they do, and then lose by a few votes, so what? they brought it on themselves, and Obama seems determined to repeat the same mistakes in his quagmires in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Not quite. Obama is counting on corporate interests for money and black America for votes. Wherever black America goes, Obama will have to follow. In the the swingers (OH, FL, etc), where black turnout was significantly higher for Obama than it was for Kerry, the jump was around 10%.

I also think Howard Dean’s analysis is spot-on.
However, most polls show the American public is most concerned with financial and economic issues, not health care…altho health care legislation does impact personal finances(see personal bankruptcies due to health care costs).
I favor a public option on health care, and I think the majority of Americans concur with that.
But Americans are most concerned with whether they will have a job tomorrow, and even if they do, whether their job will pay as much as it did in the past.
Obama and Democrats need to respond to this angst. The fact Obama(like Bush)authorized huge federal bailouts of institutions whose managers, through greed and arrogance, brought the international financial system to the near-abyss, only goes to show that he too is unaware of reality.
Americans are outraged that these whiz-kids who manipulated the system get federal bailouts, while they themselves struggle to make ends meet.
