Certainly, Lieberman ought to be thrown out of the caucus. However, it’s really no problem for the Democrats. They can use reconciliation, or even “the nuclear option” to get a bill with a very strong PO passed, stronger than Reid’s, without the opt-out. If they don’t do that, they’re accountable, including Joe of course, but all the rest of them, and Harry Reid, as well. So why aren’t we making a big stink about the Democrats prioritizing “regular order” over 45,000 deaths and one million bankruptcies per year. Don’t play into the kabuki. Strip it away.

I was pretty astounded by a Recommended Diary on DailyKos yesterday that trashed you to bits. I saw it late last night, and began to challenge it in comment after comment. Yet today I see more comments trashing me for supporting you.

QUESTION 1: Is this a “known issue” that’s been a topic of meta-commenting here at FDL for several months, or was this something out of the blue?

QUESTION 2: What do the readers here make of this? I’m jaw-dropped by the scope and vehemence of the commentary. For this past year I have seen Jane & FDL lead the most organized and aggressive campaign amongst all of the supposed Left Blogosphere… I have seen the video interview work of Mike Stark, of whom I’ve been a fan since the O’Reilly confrontations, but even moreso with his notably refreshing challenge to nancy Pelosi a few years back re her incongruous stance of impeachment and the need to uphold the Constitution.

If this topic has already been hashed out here long ago, or just recently, would someone please point me to the link here that best represents thus discussion.

I have long ago found DailyKos moving further and further into centrist territory, without a concern at all from site-owner, despite his 2-part mission for his site. Apparently he’s effectively dropped the part 2 of the mission. Yet, ironically, I see this big multi-blog discussion yesterday about how dkos members are branding Huffington Post as sliding into COnservatism. I am not going to defend Huffington Post because for very different reasons I have been disgusted by what that publication started out as, and what it now resembles… I just find it odd that dkos is more of a centrist champion today than the torch carriers of yesteryear during the height of the Dean campaign — yet it knocking HuffPost for its slide in, ostensibly, the same direction, though using different means.

A cursory review of these posts shows not a single one that proposes any action that we as the public should carry out to counter this scurrilous act by an elected official.

This I’m afraid is the reason why officials have no qualms in acting to betray the public trust. There is simply no concequences. The good people of Connecticut would appear to be the most remiss as they could call for a recall of this rat, but apparently they can’t be bothered.

But as the rest of us are also affected the venom directed at this cockroach should be followed by action. His office should be flooded
with calls and emails with demands for explanation as to why he broke his overt or tacit agreement with the Caucus to not oppose cloture.

It is really revealing how easily and passively resignation sets in as peoples interest are trampled on by such despicable trash. It is for that very reason that it occurs. This is more glaring given that collective action action has just now be seen to work on our on behalf.

I think the norm here is lots of gnashing of teeth followed up by real action. Don’t judge this particular book by its cover.

Each year it gets worse. By design, I am more and more convinced. I’m an information designer / web usability designer / content architect — call it what you will — today it’s called UX design.. But for over 5 years I have criticized publicly the flawed recommendation system, and called for a smarter set of algorithms to drive what is currently a very crude unsophisticated system. One of their self-proclaimed rockstar front pagers, Hunter, happens to be the lead developer for what kos has termed for years as the coming dkos version 4.0

… But for 3 years straight, whenever there was a meta thread re problems with the rec system and how it really disserviced the site, you never once, not once, had the fond-of-himself Hunter reply to a comment, whether to say simply “good idea. we’ll think about it”, or “we tried that and it couldn’t xxxxxxxxxx”, or “i don’t think that’s posssible in this next rev, but maybe v 5.0″ … Instead. nothing. Total utter arrogance.

Then it finally struck me one day why boss-man kos also didn’t give a rat’s ass about improving the pathetic information design of the site:

The more outrageous the diary title or content, the more one-line comments generated, and the more baiting and trolling, thus resulting in higher ad-clicks. It has been well over a year since they last announced their version 4.0 was coming soon. Whenever it comes, it’ll be too late/ They will retain their megamall role in the blogosphere as highest traffic count generator, but to me they have over-worn their welcome as a relevant change-agent for America. Percentage wise there are still daily examples of excellent thoughtful writing and analysis, but kos would rather generate page views that thought, or, heaven forbid, ORGANIZED ACTION like Jane & CO have created here to sell healthcare reform and influence the passage of effective legislation.

I don’t spend much time there anymore, and mostly use it as a news filter that points me to current stories on the web. I just find it pathetic that kos wrote his Crashing the Gate… then his followup, which ballyhoo’d the use of youtube and other tools — yet until he plucked Jed Lewison to do Jed’s thing under the kos brand, he;d never used video — ever — and still to thios day has no YouTube channel. So much for the influential kos mapping out effective strategies for progressives to win.

It’s very disillusioning to see what became of the Howard Dean movement. All the lessons & new methodologies skimmed, filtered and tweaked for use on the centrist Obama campaign … and hats off to them for running a really superior campaign. But now we’ve seen his governance doesn;t match his rhetoric (big surprise)… And so many new ventures sprung up along side the new netroots superhighway to Washington DC. trippi revived his useless consultancy, kos built a franchise he wastes daily; ezra klein raised his profile then sold out; ditto Peter Daou; Nico Melle, webmaster of Dean’s DFA site, built the echo ditto consultancy, then left to work for McCain.

I have to say I’m rather unimpressed by the overall lot of Class of ’03 leaders of the blogosphere… I still put my money on TV — and that means my tired song of Marcy on camera at the Libby trial, Josh Marshall’s initial year of daily essays — now ceased, which is a real drag… glad to see Jane risen to level of guest analyst, as on Rachel’s show tonight.

But on the whole, from my point of view, Dean progressives got split up, by design, and weakened by the Hillary primary, and now the Rham/Obama Presidency. I find it all very discouraging. And so I’d like to see Jane come out and say something, vs maintain some facade of “must keep the peace with kos; he’s a player”.

He’s a user. And his failure to collaborate with Jane this year on healthcare is a real pathetic sign of his priorities, which include churn, churn, churn the page views. But to let her get a beating on his blog — and not step in, as he has stepped in rather forcefully for Jerome, Dauo, and Trippi in the past 2 years, really shows what he’s made of.

But in my view it’s not enough to just sniff it off here — as though it doesn’t exist. To do that would make me question the integrity of this site as well. So I’d like to see someone take thsi subject seriously.

It’s simple. All Obama has to do to get Lieberman’s vote is bomb Tehran. If Obama won’t oblige, Lieberman will do all in his power to cripple Dem initiatives in order to be better positioned for future Arab hating.

First caveat: I am appalled at Senator Lieberman’s filibuster threat. HE deserves to hear from all of us about that. I disagree with the vitriol toward Senator Reid.

As to Senator Reid’s choices in January… Let’s see. Two choices: 1. Keep Lieberman around, caucusing with Democrats, with a committee chairmanship. He votes with the majority most of the time. 2. Punish him severely. Throw him out of the caucus. Strip the chairmanship. Get fewer votes in line with the party. At the time, that meant 58-1 = 57 (Franken was not seated, and Specter was a Republican.). Senator Reid absolutely made the smart, and less childish move. Reid looks like the adult that he is, and Lieberman the spoiled attention-seeking child. Now, it is up to us, and to Senator Lieberman’s constituents, to let him know how we feel. So, call, write, e-mail away.
