Reid is leaning toward a public option with an opt-out in defiance of Snowe and Baucus.
The only reason the public option has gotten so far is because the progressive grassroots would not let Congressional Democrats throw it under the bus.
On a related note, Nevada is being phone banked.
Important but overlooked is the lack of robust risk adjustment mechanisms on the exchange which could make quality health insurance impossible.
Ezra Klein may have finally had his blind faith in the power of exchanges without a public option to reduce cost shaken.
David Dayen has more details on Reid’s doc fix debacle and where the public option stands in both chambers.
The health insurance industry is now in full anti-reform mode.

About FDL Action
What about the Anti-Trust issue? Is that still on the agenda?
Revoke Baucus’ Chairmanship NOW!
Just like with gay marriage: they’ve already lost. They’re just too stupid to realize it.
The real world of facts and graphs has pointed to the reality for a long time. It is just that as long as they can keep the fantasy bizarro world alive, the Gang Of Pirates can make billions while killing hundreds every day.
Google’s Gapminder http://bit.ly/lifcht has all sorts of information about that reality and a lot more. Perhaps we can all eventually agree to actual facts before discussing what should be done about them
Jon, just want to say that I find these “Highlights” diaries very useful. They come in handy when I haven’t had a chance to read FDL Action until the evening, or when I’m going back through previous days looking for a specific post.
And I’d also like to say that I appreciate all the work you’ve been doing here. Thank you very much.
Thank you for your kind words.
