The FDL Action phonebank is live now. You can start calling progressive Nevada Democrats now and ask them to contact Harry Reid and tell him to put a public option in the final Senate bill.
Slinkerwink is up on DailyKos and says “Let’s go deliver the cure for the spine flu to Senator Harry Reid!”
Myrna the Minx at Reno and its Discontents says “Senator Reid has the power to push the public option into the Senate bill during the reconciliation process going on right now. Please tell him that’s what you want—TODAY.”
And David Shuster says “FDL PAC is proving to be one of the most powerful in the progressive movement. Democrats take note.”
We’re only as good as the people who are willing to roll up their sleeves and make it work.
This is pretty exciting — the first phone bank effort of its kind in the progressive blogosphere that I’m aware of. People are already calling, so let us know what you hear. If it works out well, then Blanche Lincoln, Ben Nelson and other obstructionist Democrats are next.

To the phones!
Hooyah!!
*bump* oops, sorry
Jane!! FDL!! Yay!!
“spine flu” LOL. awesome.
Jane, you never cease to amaze me.
Citizen Hamsher:
EEEEdogies, ain’t this fun Sister Jane??!!! Got my TDY orders and takin’ my phone canvasin’ skills to work now…Kobe is grinnin’ like a big dog in a meat market right now!
Jane, how about whipping Senators to take a pledge of no Unanimous Concent for any bill that does not include the PO? That would force a 60 vote to bring a piece of crap bill to the floor.
How about we call and demand that Harry Reid actually have a spine and not get swindled into protecting the special interests and getting out of these unseemly deals:
1. a deal with trial attorneys for ZERO liability reforms
2. a deal with private insurers to get millions of new customers through the exchanges, where new competition has to fight a bureaucracy bought off by the biggest insurers
3. a deal with insurers and PhRMA to get millions of new customers or make them pay fines, nearly all of which is from the middle class that the President offered a “read my lips” pledge not to tax
4. a deal with private insurers and House leadership to allow them to outsource running the public option to private insurance companies
5. a deal with unions to exempt them from the same rules that non-unionized Americans will have to follow
6. a deal with each other keeping members of Congress from having to participate in the public option
7. a deal with AARP to kill medicare advantage, giving AARP medigap policies millions of new customers
8. a deal with hospitals exempting them from payment cuts by the new independent medicare payment commission
and that is just a very, very short list…
So sorry to hear about Kobe. I don’t have a fire dog, but I do have one little hot dog. He likes to sit in front of the heater until he turns bright pink. He’ll sit there getting pinker and pinker, panting away.
He has another trick, at night, when he wants the spot on the bed that one of the other dogs are in, he will run out back and start barking to make the other dogs think that there is something going on. They jump out of bed, run out of the house to see what the fuss is about, and then hot dog immediately runs back in, jumps back into bed, claiming the spot he wanted.
After 3 years of this, the others are finally catching on.
I am off to brush up on my phone bank skills.
Oh Norske that makes me so happy! Kobe is grinning & watching you in action. I just know it.
Karen that’s so funny you say that. Katie used to do that all the time. Kobe tried it once and nobody bit, and that was that.
He was theatrical without actually being a very good actor.
Thanks for hitting the phones. The response so far has been really great. It’s definitely having an impact.
There really is a Force and those at the Bridge are a big part of it. They are, after all, the ones who taught us what real love is all about.
Blue Texan’s regularly scheduled post is up and ready: “Elected Republicans Blaming Limbaugh and Beck for GOP’s Woes”
He’s really affecting the choices we’re making and the things we’re working on. I don’t even think about it and then boom, you can see his mighty paw on everything.
Wow. I agree, to the phones!
“Nevada Phone Bank for Tool Harry Reid and Public Option Now Live”
Corrected.
Remember, folks: The deal was supposed to have gone down by now.
The big sellout of the public option — which was prearranged to be sacrificed in order to buy the aid of the health-care industry (or at least the lack of new “Harry and Louise” ads being run 24/7 for the past six months) in getting some “reform” legislation passed — was supposed to have already happened, and the Baucus bill (aka the MaxTax on the poor and middle class) signed into law.
But for far less than what the health-care lobby spends in an afternoon, Jane Hamsher and her allies have fought a trillion-dollar industry to a standstill — and are on the verge of winning the fight.
One more push, one more big push. We can do it.
TPMDC quotes Nelson and Conrad as stating that the leadership and Obama are moving towards the Schumer public option in the merged bill.
The pressure is working. This is like the Grinch movie where the Grinch’s heart grows at the end, but now we are watching Reid’s spine. C’mon Harry, you can do it…
Maybe this will help with this particular phone bank.
When I did my calls this morning I had several elderly people who needed assistance with their insurance/health care problems. I finally found one number which I gave to one elderly gentlemen. It was the State Health Insurance Assistance Program 1-800-307-4444 (or Las Vegas 486-3478). So he told me he would call Sen. Reid for that public option concern.
Maybe that number will help anybody who encounters any elderly Nevadan constituent who need assist with insurance/health care issues.
Yes many are pushing including our dear Jane Hamsher and team
