Yesterday Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee voted against a public option. The reason given by Chairman Max Baucus? Well, he says there are Democrats in the Senate who would join with Republicans to filibuster such a bill.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid needs to tell us which Democrats think they can stand with the Republicans and filibuster a public option. Those Democrats are the only roadblock to a public option in the Senate, and we need to know who they are.
We have 60 Democratic Senators. So what’s the problem?
President Obama, a majority of the House and Senate, and 77% of the American people all support a public option. So why is Harry Reid protecting a handful of corporate Democrats who want to sabotage a public option?
A handful of Democrats owned by the insurance industry think they can get away with filibustering President Obama’s health care reform simply because it makes the insurance industry compete.
We are continuing to organize 40 members of the House to ensure that only a health care bill with a strong public option reaches the President’s desk. But that doesn’t give Harry Reid an excuse to protect these Senators. We need to know who they are.

More like, “Hey Spineless Harry, stop hiding behind Democrats who want to filibuster the PO !”
It’s time to call Harry Reid office and tell them that unless he brings a Bill with a robust PO to the Senate Floor, we will work with his opponent to toss him out of office.
Is there not a law requiring this disclosure?
At the very least a Dem Party guideline?
Whatever happened to independent thought in the Democrat party?
But it isn’t only Harry Reid, there is a lack of commitment from President Obama, who is in recent days simply a shiver looking for a spine to run up.
GWB had no mandate and acted as though he had one.
BHO has a mandate and acts as though he does not have one.
We have 60 Democratic Senators. So what’s the problem?
There are 58 Democratic Senators.
Signed this morning.
Why are the Democrats trying to self immolate?
Delightful.
Q: What’s the difference between Harry Reid and oatmeal?
A: Oatmeal is far more dynamic.
Just sayin’…
I don’t know, Obama sounds committed to me:
he’s not spineless. he’s bought.
obama is actively trying to twist rockefeller’s arm.

Reid won’t say who they are … because he’s one of them. The idea that there would be partisan unity on health care died when the legislation became a turd-piece of special interest giveaways that won’t solve anything. Progressives should recognize this fact as well and start marshalling their forces to kill it.
thanks Michael. signed
is he bluffing ? if this was his idea of telegraphing a message to his caucus someone would have publicly contradicted him by now, right ?
The fact that BO skipped the country to go on an ego-motivated quest to secure the Olympics for Chicago even as the SFC was haggling about the healthcare bill dropped him a few more pegs in my book. Yeah, hosting the Olympics would be nice, but are there larger priorities right now? Um….Yup.
hey, thanks for that
List them! Not listing them is protecting them — from their own constituents. What a crock. If they are afraid that being recognized will hurt their popularity, then they are admitting that they know that they are not doing the will of their constituents. So the next question is – who are they working for? Who is lining their pockets?
Call them out. List those many blessings – name them one by one.
At least he wasn’t clearing brush.
Good Point. On the other hand, that clearin’ brush is “hard work.”…
The only reasoned communication remaining for registered Democrats is to relay to elected Democrats at every level of Government:
Enough is Enough! If this Democtratic Congress doesn’t pass a STRONG HEALTH CARE BILL WITH A STRONG PUBLIC OPTION I WILL NEVER AGAIN VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT FOR ANY OFFICE AT ANY LEVEL.
There are 60 members of the Democratic caucus in the Senate: 58 Democrats plus Sanders and Lieberman. The majority leader also leads the caucus and the whip (Durbin) also whips the entire caucus.
Reid has been trying to carefully manage the caucus, but after yesterday’s vote, it’s time to start putting cards on the table.
Thanks for signing!
My list:
1. Harry Reid
2. Joe Leiberman
3. Max Baucus
4. Blanche Lincoln
5. Kent Conrad
6. Ben Nelson
7. Tom “Kewpie” Carper
8. Mary Landrieu
I know I’m forgetting one or two. It’s possible they don’t have 51, let alone 60.
Obama is committed to passing any bill. Rockefeller and others need to hold the line on a public option… Watching yesterday’s votes, it’s clear Lincoln and Conrad are opposed to a public option, while Baucus used procedural excuses.
The time for these games are over in the Senate
Carper voted for Schumer’s amendment yesterday. While he’s one to watch, it’s the others you list like Lincoln, Landrieu, Ben Nelson, and others to stick with the caucus.
I wouldn’t doubt Mary Landrieu.

The best way to find out is to have the vote. IIRC all voting is public domain knowledge and we will then know who the make beleive Dems are.
I also signed the petition!!.
From above link
It feels weird to even think it, but DAMN we could use another LBJ right now. He’d put a bill with a public option in front of the 60 putative Democratic senators and dare any of them to vote against cloture when the banjo-pluckers start filibustering it. And if any were crazy enough to step out of line, they’d never get another cent in earmarks into their states, any bill with their name on it would be DOA in committee, and the skies over their primary opponent’s campaign office would be darkened with an torrent of incoming contributions.
In His Own Words,Harry Reid on being a Democrat and a Mormon:
Growing up in Searchlight, my mother always had on our wall a small pillow case — royal blue with gold fringe, with the words, we can, we will, we must. And the name on the bottom in large gold letters — Franklin Delano Roosevelt. President Roosevelt was the closest we had to a worshipful figure as I grew up.
For my economically challenged parents, even though a man of great wealth and privilege, Roosevelt represented them. He fought for the workers of America. President Roosevelt is the basis of my political direction. Social security is the most successful social program in the history of the world. A government program that helps the old, the handicapped, widows and orphans.
The Works Progress Administration and the Civilian Conservation Corps programs that put hundreds of thousands of unemployed people to work. Not handouts, but jobs.
Roosevelt tackled our greatest economic crisis with the 3 R’s: relief, recovery and reform. And let’s not forget — he was commander-in-chief of the greatest military ever assembled at a time of great crisis in the world.”

This article really should be read in its entirety-LOTS of info I didn’t know before about Reid…but this much I do know-Mr.Reid,you are no Franklin Roosevelt
Street Prophets: Harry Reid in his own words (mostly)Sep 26, 2009 … So now that the newly installed Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid is both the highest-ranking Mormon ever in American politics and the …

Pete Seeger is a banjo plucker. Don’t insult banjo pluckers.
The only reason they are going to vote for the filibuster is because they don’t want to cast a vote AT ALL on health care reform. Hiding behind the GOP is one exceptional talent the Conservadems have. And Harry is their leader, who follows them wherever they want him to lead.
Thanks for the link. I’ve been skeptical of Landrieu in the past, but I’m happy to put her on the yay tote for the public option.
FYI, Here was my comment attached to petition:
>>Sen Reid, pull out all stops to make Democrats stand together against GOP filibuster of the public option. If some Dems need money for their campaign coffers, instead of groveling for cash from health and drug companies, tell them to ASK US, their constituents. We are willing to compete with the commercial health industry to keep our Senators honest. We are the ‘real’ public option!
