Jim Cooper says we’ve misstated his position on the public option, so let’s see if we can fix that:
Jim Cooper to right-wing radio listeners: "My favorite bill has no public option in it."
Jim Cooper to progressive bloggers: "I have repeatedly said that I’m FOR a public option, and that there are multiple ways to do it."
Jim Cooper to the D.C. press: "I have been a leader in trying to define what a public option really could mean… there are about 18 ways to define a public option and at least half of them could win my support"
Jim Cooper to NPR: "We’re doing double back flips to help the uninsured"
Which of his many positions is he talking about?

About FDL Action
Cooper has to go. Is there a promising primary contentder?
This is lovely! Short, sweet, to the point. Would make a great ad.
How many sides of the mouth can Jim Cooper talk out of?
How many positions of Jim Cooper’s does he think we have to cover every time we talk about him? Why doesn’t he simply tell everyone the same thing? What, exactly, is your position, Congressman? And have you corrected the impression you’ve left with those other audiences?
Jane,
I read Ross’ and Cooper’s statements about their positions on health care reform at their websites and ended up concluding that they both similarly want to have it both ways on the public option (giving the appearance of wanting it as they really just plain oppose it).
They hide behind deliberate misinterpretations of President Obama’s three stated goals, especially the need for deficit-neutrality.
Having spent time these past few days around the blogs associated with FDL, I find myself wondering if there is widespread, strong commitment to tell the majority of Democrats in Congress who want a public option to fight harder for it (partly by us standing up to those Democrats like Ross and Cooper who, well…).
Has the ad to tell Sen Lincoln and Rep Ross to ACT LIKE DEMOCRATS been running in Arkansas? Do you know if it airs on CSS? Any impact or response?
And can something similar be done in TN-5 to speak loudly to Rep. Cooper and inform his constituents about his real position? Even a newspaper ad placed in a Nashville paper for a single day might send a powerful message!
