Last week at the AFL-CIO convention, it was reported that AFSCME President Gerald McEntee led the crowd in a derogatory chant about Max Baucus’s Senate Finance Committee bill. But the video was nowhere to be found.
We found it:
The Senate Finance Committee is getting ready to debate a health care bill. That bill does not meet the test of this resolution.
As a matter of fact, it doesn’t even come close. And it does not meet President Obma’s standards either. There is no employer mandate, no public option, no help for retirees. The finance committee bill imposes substantial costs on the states, weakens state insurance regulation and taxes our health plan.
(audience starts to boo)
That’s right here…boo, boo come on. It’s all bullshit.
Come on, what’s the word?
It’s bullshit!
The speed with which all the videos were yanked from YouTube etc. indicates that there was unhappiness with Mr. McEntee’s speech in some sectors. But the AFSCME page inviting you to tell the Senate Finance Committee how you feel about the bill is still up.
Fuckin’ AFSCME.

they would only be able to pull that from youtube if they were able claim property rights to the clip
so they will probably do the same thing here, be prepared please but let us know when it happens
Of course, that anyone called the Baucus plan “Bullshit”, shouldn’t surprise anyone. But to have the opportunity to lead a crowd in chanting “Bullshit”, and get the video out there, that is priceless.
You are a supersleuth Jane.
Wonder who had it yanked. I called Austria’s (Caveman, OH-7) office today to piss up a rope on the bills. I was assured that Steve was going to vote against any of the current bills and that he needed my support to succeed.
Boxturtle (Caveman Caucus is Ohio slang for the Most Conservative GOPers)
Max was aiming for bipartisanship but got bullpartisanshit instead.
You guys are PalaeoCatholic Central, right? The folks who think dropping the Latin Mass led to cats lying with dogs and that sort of thing?
DING DING DING!!!
Hey-OOOOO!
IS that ad going up in Arkansas this week?
Great video, Jane. Thanks for digging it up.
More of a protestant keep the women in the kitchen, keep the Bible in the schools, and target the abortionists kind of place. Ripe for teabag recruiting.
Catholics are tolerated because they hate abortion, but they’re not particularly encouraged.
Boxturtle (Oh, yeah, and Darwin is the antichrist)
I don’t know which idea is worse, that Bacus is kowtowing to the health care industry or that he still thinks that the republicans bargin in good faith.
Fuckin’ A !
it’s even better than I had thought
And thank you for the Daily Show clip in Siun’s thread. Good stuff!
No wonder someone from AFSCME would say this, do you think any libs is going to sign up for union memebers paying a tax on their caddy plans?
You know, that’s an idea.
;)
awesome. This is going up on my blog, getting forwarded to so many people.
f’ing youtube censorship makes this near-impossible to get up on facebook. i will link to FDL instead…
So Snowe officially offers a public option trigger amendment.
Hi LooHoo!
How are you doing this September NOT going back to school? must be bittersweet.
FDL has something on this, too
The Max Tax: Snowe Offers Worthless Trigger Amendment
Her choice. Took early retirement. Just, sweet sweet. I’m pretty sure.
yes, but she loved her kids.
I think she’s loving her time off, too. *g*
Don’t you miss Christy already? I’m trying not to be a big baby about this. Considering it’s not about me! Ha.
It’s ONLY sweet, Elliot. NCLB is such a drag I couldn’t take it anymore. All the texts are BS, and I got real tired of dreaming up curriculum.
I hear ya
*sob*
Oh well then, I thought maybe you’d have a tinge of regret. Too bad teaching turned into a chore. :(
Glad you’re enjoying the free time.
It’s the Great American Word. And these days it’s almost as handy as a life-preserver in a sinking lifeboat. There should be a federal law making punishing anyone for using it a capital crime. :o)
A few decades ago, the writer, Norman Mailer, should have been elected Mayor of New York just for his campaign slogan:
“No more bullshit!” :o)

Baucus is out to Faucus!!
Anybody remember the book On Bullshit?
My liege, my liege! XLNT, my liege!
Baucus and Obama are NOT looking for bipartisanship. They are looking for political cover. 1 or 2 Republican votes doesn’t create bipartisanship. This is all kabuki to enact their neoliberal agenda. (Well Obama is neoliberal; Baucus is just in the pocket of Insurance).
Except it doesn’t trigger a “public option”. It would only create the government subsidized plan for those 5%+ who weren’t covered by plans offered in the Co-Ops. You can’t “opt” for the plan. If you can “afford” a plan you must take it – even if there is just one.
Furthermore the government plan would only take effect state-by-state. If 4% of Missourians don’t meet the criteria, they have to deal with the current system…likely by paying the fine and going without coverage. Except if mandatory means MANDATORY…in which they’d be compelled to obtain a plan…probably a “junk” one that offered almost no real benefits, high deductables, and co-pays – and pray that no one gets sick or injured.
Yup. I even read it … quickly!
