[Ed. note: Please join us in the comments thread as we liveblog President Obama's address starting at 8pm EDT.]
NYCEve and I met with Rep. Ellison and Rep. Grijalva today, who have been key organizers working to form a progressive block to insist that any health care reform bill that passes have a public option. Both indicated that when progressives spoke to President Obama this week, they emphasized how important it was that he mention the public option in his speech tonight.
They believe that if he does that, they will have the momentum they need to keep fighting. So the President is very aware of the importance of mentioning the public option in this speech to their ability to keep fighting.
EXCERPTS OF THE PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS TO A JOINT SESSION OF CONGRESS TONIGHT
I am not the first President to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last. It has now been nearly a century since Theodore Roosevelt first called for health care reform. And ever since, nearly every President and Congress, whether Democrat or Republican, has attempted to meet this challenge in some way. A bill for comprehensive health reform was first introduced by John Dingell Sr. in 1943. Sixty-five years later, his son continues to introduce that same bill at the beginning of each session.
Our collective failure to meet this challenge – year after year, decade after decade – has led us to a breaking point. Everyone understands the extraordinary hardships that are placed on the uninsured, who live every day just one accident or illness away from bankruptcy. These are not primarily people on welfare. These are middle-class Americans. Some can’t get insurance on the job. Others are self-employed, and can’t afford it, since buying insurance on your own costs you three times as much as the coverage you get from your employer. Many other Americans who are willing and able to pay are still denied insurance due to previous illnesses or conditions that insurance companies decide are too risky or expensive to cover.
***
During that time, we have seen Washington at its best and its worst.
We have seen many in this chamber work tirelessly for the better part of this year to offer thoughtful ideas about how to achieve reform. Of the five committees asked to develop bills, four have completed their work, and the Senate Finance Committee announced today that it will move forward next week. That has never happened before. Our overall efforts have been supported by an unprecedented coalition of doctors and nurses; hospitals, seniors’ groups and even drug companies – many of whom opposed reform in the past. And there is agreement in this chamber on about eighty percent of what needs to be done, putting us closer to the goal of reform than we have ever been.
But what we have also seen in these last months is the same partisan spectacle that only hardens the disdain many Americans have toward their own government. Instead of honest debate, we have seen scare tactics. Some have dug into unyielding ideological camps that offer no hope of compromise. Too many have used this as an opportunity to score short-term political points, even if it robs the country of our opportunity to solve a long-term challenge. And out of this blizzard of charges and counter-charges, confusion has reigned.
Well the time for bickering is over. The time for games has passed. Now is the season for action. Now is when we must bring the best ideas of both parties together, and show the American people that we can still do what we were sent here to do. Now is the time to deliver on health care.
The plan I’m announcing tonight would meet three basic goals:
It will provide more security and stability to those who have health insurance. It will provide insurance to those who don’t. And it will slow the growth of health care costs for our families, our businesses, and our government. It’s a plan that asks everyone to take responsibility for meeting this challenge – not just government and insurance companies, but employers and individuals. And it’s a plan that incorporates ideas from Senators and Congressmen; from Democrats and Republicans – and yes, from some of my opponents in both the primary and general election.
***
Here are the details that every American needs to know about this plan:
First, if you are among the hundreds of millions of Americans who already have health insurance through your job, Medicare, Medicaid, or the VA, nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have. Let me repeat this: nothing in our plan requires you to change what you have.
What this plan will do is to make the insurance you have work better for you. Under this plan, it will be against the law for insurance companies to deny you coverage because of a pre-existing condition. As soon as I sign this bill, it will be against the law for insurance companies to drop your coverage when you get sick or water it down when you need it most. They will no longer be able to place some arbitrary cap on the amount of coverage you can receive in a given year or a lifetime. We will place a limit on how much you can be charged for out-of-pocket expenses, because in the United States of America, no one should go broke because they get sick. And insurance companies will be required to cover, with no extra charge, routine checkups and preventive care, like mammograms and colonoscopies – because there’s no reason we shouldn’t be catching diseases like breast cancer and colon cancer before they get worse. That makes sense, it saves money, and it saves lives.
That’s what Americans who have health insurance can expect from this plan – more security and stability.
Now, if you’re one of the tens of millions of Americans who don’t currently have health insurance, the second part of this plan will finally offer you quality, affordable choices. If you lose your job or change your job, you will be able to get coverage. If you strike out on your own and start a small business, you will be able to get coverage. We will do this by creating a new insurance exchange – a marketplace where individuals and small businesses will be able to shop for health insurance at competitive prices. Insurance companies will have an incentive to participate in this exchange because it lets them compete for millions of new customers. As one big group, these customers will have greater leverage to bargain with the insurance companies for better prices and quality coverage. This is how large companies and government employees get affordable insurance. It’s how everyone in this Congress gets affordable insurance. And it’s time to give every American the same opportunity that we’ve given ourselves.
***
This is the plan I’m proposing. It’s a plan that incorporates ideas from many of the people in this room tonight – Democrats and Republicans. And I will continue to seek common ground in the weeks ahead. If you come to me with a serious set of proposals, I will be there to listen. My door is always open.
But know this: I will not waste time with those who have made the calculation that it’s better politics to kill this plan than improve it. I will not stand by while the special interests use the same old tactics to keep things exactly the way they are. If you misrepresent what’s in the plan, we will call you out. And I will not accept the status quo as a solution. Not this time. Not now.
Everyone in this room knows what will happen if we do nothing. Our deficit will grow. More families will go bankrupt. More businesses will close. More Americans will lose their coverage when they are sick and need it most. And more will die as a result. We know these things to be true.
That is why we cannot fail. Because there are too many Americans counting on us to succeed – the ones who suffer silently, and the ones who shared their stories with us at town hall meetings, in emails, and in letters.

About FDL Action
“Not like in January. Or April. Or July. I really mean it this time. No more standing around. Really. Not this time. Nosirree.”
So, I assume the *** are the missing parts where the strong support for the public option are found.
I think Rahm wrote those parts. The *** certainly sounds like his vocabulary.
If Obama doesn’t support the public option, I may need some of those ****.
No BO PO…………….
FAIL
Jane there is no public discussion of what he means by “choice”, and how “10’s of millions” will be forced to pay for expensive, junk insurance, which they cant use, and how they are now conflating “controlling cost” with reducing subsidies for for low and middle income “choosers”. Also what the fuck is a “advancable” tax credit? and what about those who are unemployed or self employed??
I think on a positive note the insurance cartel has its own PO style “deal breaker” in the tax on high cost benefits
Um, ”excerpts”, as in, not the whole speech.
Of course he’s only going to say the PO is one of a number of options, so we won’t be surprised. Our fight is entirely with the progressives, who must vote down a bill with no PO.
And I must add it is so awesome seeing Al Franken as Senator. Love it every time.
Is this going to be the live blog thread?
yeah
Live blog here? Inquiring minds, and all that…
Would be nice if we could control the cameras on the crowd.
Maybe he needs a trigger or something.
“Mrs. Dr. Biden.” Artful…
Yes, let it fly!
Good to be with the family when the insurrection starts.
What channel are we watching? Will CNN have the dial graph?
MSNBC says there is an embargoed version of the speech that can’t be talked about yet.
You know I will.
Sec. Clinton is looking good.
Where do the Death Panel members sit? Down front?
I think I may need to pour myself another “cuppa” or some such thing in order to get through this.
Making nice on Susan Collins . . . oh well.
and she’s in bright red to boot!
Looks as if everybody is here. Who wants to Party! Celebrate The Goldman Sachs New World Order!
Keith is right. Obama will show whether he represents the corporations or the citizenry.
A lot of orange on the ladies this evening
listening to NATIONAL REPUBLICAN RADIO….with puke mara Liason
MSNBC here. No response line on CNN. Who would they plug in to that?
That’s no lady. . .
Joe Teabag?
In the insurance company board rooms.
I’m planning on a cuppa beer or two… or three…. or however many it takes…
What farce on my TV screen,
Yes, she looks terrific … I just said the same thing to my husband.
Arm twisting? I hope so…
NPR SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
It is just barely possible that the more controversial parts of the speech have not been released yet, so as to avoid attack before the speech has even been given. But this looks bad.
iku
This speech is going to suckkkkk. Dude, what else is on, anyone want to live blog HBO2?
Glassa wine here and may need another.
Keith and Rachel are hammering on corporatism.
Howard Fineman wants us to know he has a copy of the speech but cannot talk about it. Whatta tool.
a little late for that, isn’t it? About 15 years late.
see raven’s comment above
Raven !
Will RushBo’s head finally explode as the President is announced ?
Mara Liason sez……..PBO suxxxxxx eggs
They sit on the right side. All of them.
Is there a drinking game?
Just say no to Nice Polite Republican Radio.
Rachel: do the democrats represent the people or the corporations?
From your fingers to God’s ears. I pity the next Democratic fundraiser who calls my house with a hand out for more scratch if we get sold down the river on this…
CSPAN, no commentary
here’s link for tv and radio
What up Petro?
Oh dear, Chuckletodd vs. BriWilson? Or Mara Liarsen? Not good choices.
good idea. now that I’ve got my pre-live-blog calisthenics done, I’m just about ready.
Hey – there’s Rahm. Good – reminds me to roll up some throwin’ socks.
“Some will say” … Drink !
*passing around Tequila shots*
My husband says the magic word is “security.”
OH man, they always have to act big, don’t they?
drink…..triggerz
2 drinks……..bipartisan
my game
wtf, KO and Rachel are on the case.
Yes.
But there’s probably a better one somewhere.
I’m having a Lillet Spritzer. Anything stronger and I’ll probably break something before the speech is over.
CSPAN!
It’s 8:10, people — sit the hell down, already!
gras
I wouldn’t make too much of the PO discussion not being in the excerpts.
you got somewhere to go?
I delayed my vacation for 12 hours so I can join all of you here. *g*
I feel all tingly knowing that we have one of the consummate DC party animals, Howard Fineman, commenting on MSNBC. Cause when Howard is on a wild roll, he is butter!
Drink when you hear ‘public option’ — and stay stone cold sober.
they’ve already stopped calling me. But they still send me envelopes. They may regret it.
You’re trying to get us sloshed, right?
Oh come on, we gotta get all fucking hysterical now don’t we?
Looking at a copy. It does mention ublicpay shunopay.
PBO enters
WTF!I thought Fox Noise was going to have a documentary on The Life and Times of Ollie North. Some corporate bimbo says “The liberals are threatenig all or nothing.”
We are powerful!
Yep. That’s the AA game for sure.
you’re a good neighbor
Why did the early release excerpts sound like the same crap Obama has been spewing for months?
That would get us drunk pretty quick. “Nuts” would be a good word for the MSNBC commentary.
Will he give Olympia a Kiss on his way in?
I just saw a tweet from Sen. Bill Nelson saying there will be insurance exchanges. Didn’t say anything about PO.
MO looks peeved
gee – Miss McConnell looks happy.
I hate it when that happens.
Our NN goodybag had a soft rubber ball to throw at Foxx. I should try to find it for the evening.
Mike Barnicle also mentioned Fineman yesterday as a DC party animal, per Politico, without disclosing that Mr and Mrs Chris Matthews were also on the Top 50 Partiers List.
Kum-bipartisan-ya
I wish C-SPAN was hi-def.
The bipartisan stuff is going to turn my stomach. Time for some pepto.
Rolled up socks work too…
Think Michele Bachmann will try to grab a kiss?
Yeh, insurance exchanges donations for PROFITS PROFITS PROFITS
I see you have paged Captain Renault. I am here to say I am shocked, SHOCKED to here little of the public option!
Eeeeee-yewwww
EWWWW. Boner kissed Hillary.
He’s gonna say it, we aren’t gonna believe it and it ain’t gonna be in the final.
Did they send a memo to the dem gals to wear red tonight?
Try a sock full of nickles.
She’ll get her tetanus and rabies shots tomorrow.
Michelle doesn’t exactly look happy tonite.
OK now she’s smiling.
Boner has on an extra coat of Shellac … we’re good to go !
Red tie–to reference GOP or signal his socialist handlers?
Pass the Pepcid, this is gonna be difficult
Boner kissed Hillary.
think she’ll catch the contact-drunk?
Big yellow envelopes. Something odd about our country.
Nancy covered her mike to say something to Obama
Cute, Michelle waving to her honey
I think they meant the Fox Network, not Noise.
Oppps, Fineman let the cat out of the bag too!
Um, I can’t afford to buy another TV. I throw the rolled up socks at the tube!
He is really loved
si
here it comes
Boehner’s face rubbed off on ‘em.
Here’s the drinking game: Start with a big glass of something strong. Every time he mentions the public option but fails to assert that it must be included, pour out half the drink and replace it with water.
By speech’s end, you’ll have a drink proportionately dilute as Obama’s plan.
HUGE applause, like he’s BONO or something
Oh, I thought you were talking about Barrow and Kingston!
Biden looks good too…looks happy.
Probably to remind him that she talks first. Recall that he overtalked her during his non-SOTU in January.
Maybe all the dems in red is a gesture to bipartisanship. We so lllooooovvvvvvveeeeeee bipartisanship.
Cheney smiled crazily when Bush handed him the 16 words envelope.
BO is introduced – and the Repub’s are happy, ’cause after this, they don’t have to clap any more tonight.
In sleeves none the less.
Commies
Even my dog is begging for a drink-already…
It also shows up really well on TV.
worst president ever.
hahahahahahh ahahahaha hahahahahah hahahahah ahahahah
hahahahahahahah hahahahahah hahahahah hahahahah
But how will they treat their clap without a PO?
And my Kitty Marcy just jumped on my lap and keyboard. What fun.
what is his lapel pin–a flag?
you are a dope
Citizen Raven:
Whatcher recon tell you…is Obama gunna give us somethin ta get his back on?
Why not skate on over to Little Green Footballs or somewhere you might feel more comfortable?
worst economic crisis since great depression, credit frozen and financial system on verge of collapse. For many looking for work things are still bleak … I will not let up until those amercians who seek jobs can find them. Until those businesses that see capital and credit… I can stand here with confidence and say we have pulled this economy back from the brink.
LOL
ROTFL.
Dexter farted at the word “brink”
@114
More like Cui Bono,methinks.
!!
Cripes. We just got to the boiler plate about the economy, and I’m already irritated.
worst president ever.
were you born just this year?
Looks like the gang’s all here.
LOL. The fantasy version of this bill would still be just awful compared to the needs of the country. They’ll have to go back to health care as an issue within a few more years. Back, and back and back again.
LOLOL
I think he’ll give it tonight but I don’t think it’s gonna happen.
He’s determined to be the last—not if triggers are part of the plan.
Swine flu, Boner would frighten me
Yes, the insurance companies would also like you to be the last Prez to bring up this contentious issue. On that, you and they agree, sir.
“determned to be the last” Run thru the wingnut translator: “See he’s gonna be a dictator!”
caninet all stands for determined to be the last president to take up this cause.
Nearly a century since Thoedore roosevelt first addressed this cause. Shout out to John Dingell Sr and JR.
Yay Dingell!
Troll Train didn’t take long… And that’s the last notice I shall make of The Tiny Brained Folk!
Dingells senior and junior have submitted the same health care bill since 1943, and we continue to ignore it.
Dude, where do you get your shit? It must be some seriously heavy duty stuff…
Props to Dingel. How will he talk about Teddy? He has to—Vicki is sitting with Michele.
It is a tragedy. I cannot buy anymore U2 albums. Bono is not a nice man. Bono is a loyal Bushie.
sup bro?
this site showed me how inadequate this guy is. and now im getting criticized for believing it? Well I believe it. Worst president ever. not being ironic/sarcastic.
security. drink
LOL. Beck will be saying that tomorrow. And unlike Rush, he will truly honestly believe it.
Stressed American Citizens without healthcare, 30 million
“Those guys are from England, and who gives a shit?” — Casey Kasem
Pelosi looks exhausted.
Is this the “insult other commenters” thread?
We may be going into a second thread really soon.
Oh . . . there it is
U2 is not from no England
Well, trolls get what’s coming to them.
He cited exactly the acne story (Krugman?) suggested.
How did he get the R’s to stand up? Don’t they know they aren’t supposed to be happy?
Evening, all
Case studies of insurance company evils. Effective foundation building.

Give yourself a thrill, wiggle your ears and tickle your prostate…then go back under the bridge before someone makes soup outta you.
Then you must have been under a fucking rock for the last 8 years.
It’s Kasey Kasim. Who gives a shit?
Obama making an excellent single-payer case tonight.
Were you alive or awake for the last 8 years to see a man who lied about war and couldn’t speak in sentences…..? Maybe you are less than 8 years old.
No it’s the let’s hear it from some motherfucker about Obama when we lived through JBJ, Nixon and Reagan thread.
i’ve heard all this before. nothing new so far. zzzzzzzzzzz defining speech indeed
You and I know it, go tell Casey. (Actually I think he knows by now.)
Blah blah blah so he describes the technical problems. What would be great if for once someone described the political problems.
I give up.
OK time for you to put your head back from where you pulled it out of!
Are we going to move over to the next thread?
YAY restrict the private insurance industry!!
Ahahh, one of the greatest Casey Kasem quotes EVER!
Deficit problem? How about the half of defense spending that no other advanced country pays, or the wars we’re fighting?
OK now he’s going left and right. Gonna cut the baby in half.
Not very good for the baby.
not yet
we got lotsa space here
looked on line in vain for rubber brix – thx for the sox idea!
“Those on the left think single-payer….”. Scattered applause. Now telling us why we ain’t gonna get it.
I had a couple of nasty procedures the last couple of weeks myself but it all came out good.
Geez, disrupt the broken healthcare system already.
BS
Blue Shield
Blue Cross
Barack Shit
I’d really like a “front page” thread, myself…
“On the left and on the right.” Piece of shit.
Uh oh….this is making me nervous….
Lovely straw man. Single-payer isn’t a “whole new system”. It only changes how we pay for it.
Which part of this crappy system works? I mean, works for people as opposed to insurance companies, Pharma and the rest of the corporate world.
me too.
I’m sitting in a bar and can’t hear it very well. Has he tsked tsked the Congress yet and told them to stop bickering? And then said ” a whole loaf is better than none”?
Well, granted there are a lot of legitimate beefs; worst President ever ain’t one of them though.
I notice you had some trolls removed.
People forget Solomon was bluffing.
Once again, that talking point about people like their health care, after he contradicted himself just a minute earlier. How can you trust it.
Obama not on top of his game. MO looks grim.
No O there is not agreement on 80% unless the agreement is about wanting the HC industry to keep paying the tab for campaign contributions. On that they all agree,
It doesn’t even work for doctors (at least not the ones I work for).
Let’s hear it for the unyielding ideological camps!
Boner looks miserable. That makes me VERY happy!
“Now is the season for action — now is the time we need to bring the best ideas of both parties together.”
The other party has only one idea, Barack: NO.
“Best ideas of both parties?” And those would be,,,,?
msnbc keeps making dramatic cut aways to members of congress like they’re listening/care…
he always looks like he’s got something up his butt. Tonite included.
Slow the growth of health care costs? We can’t stand the cost we are currently paying.
With a dull deer antler.
We need a shot of someone dozing – where is Cheney
So Obama want’s to bring together the best ideas of both parties and just what is the best idea of the Republican Party.
Apparently they’ve added a comment to the upstairs thread about live blogging. Maybe they’re troll-free?
So he is going to be unyielding for triggers
cut the baby in half. They’re good with that. They only care about the babies before they’re born anyway
the same as reading your posts
Citizen nightheat:
You get cable on that side of the Moon?
He’s no FDR but maybe Reagan Lite.
So, is it really true that HC will soon dwarf every other contrib to the defecit? Isn’t that only because our wars are “off the books” at the moment?!

**Applause for pre-existing conditions!!**
I love all this fracking cheering. Let’s see how many of the Blue Dogs and Repigs vote for it.
Staring into the abyss of his impending damnation?
so far so good, no changing drs/insurance plans for employed, no pre-existing conditions…no drop or water down…limits on out of pockets
Boner’s tanning bed broke down so he had to roll around in Cheetos to get his “tan”.
Nice platitudes. We’ve only heard them since what, 1914?
“No one should go broke because they get sick.”
I’d like to hear “will go broke” please….
Shirley, U jest.
free roto rooter
Oh. I’ve always thought he used the really cheap spray-on stuff that turns you orange like that…
Oh, they care. They have a lot of money riding on how this comes out.
Exchange is bull sh*t. I want to hear PO.
This is BS
ins exchange.
poop.
some ol’ same ol’!
And, no public option…
yes
*sigh*
okay now for those of us without health ins…insurance exchange, bargaining…
“exchange” meaning national? or still broken into state-wise monopolies?
“Partisan spectacle”. Asshole. “On the left, and on the right”.
“80%” — 80% of a pile of gravel is a smaller pile of gravel, but 80% of an automobile is a useless pile of junk.
I’m not in a position to see the speech, but the excerpts are worrying. He’s still trying to play Mr. Bipartisan, straight down the middle, acting like Republicans and Democrats are equal participants. When he says “Some have dug into unyielding ideological camps that offer no hope of compromise”, this could be interpreted as a shot at the progressive bloc that insists on a public option. He seems to be playing it neutrally between the progressives, who say that there must be a public option, and the conservadems who say there must not be.
Whatcha drinkin, rev?
FWDiva
Did he really need to convene Congress to repeat all the crap he’s been spouting for months?
Insurance exchanges. Wow.
people are singling me out for being cynical. don’t believe a word obama is saying, forgive me, sorry, its only my opinion/not forcing you to agree/chill
hang on to your hat
Ah… Wait for 4 years…
McCain claps
Animatronic McCain head, nice touch there.
At the very LEAST still buying from for-profit outfits like BC BS

something not nearly strong enough. Lillet with seltzer. I should be doing bourbon shots, but I’m always on call for parishioners. C’est la vie.
WTF?
because what you said was so totally stupid, how’s that work?
Oh, christ
here come mandates!
Citizen nightheat:
are you still here…?
You’re not being cynical. You’re being a troll.
No PO yet.
This is starting to stink
Here it comes — we’re being forced to buy junk insurance from the private industry.
Oh you traitorous dirtbag.
That explains it! I thought he looked much more life-like than he did all through the campaign.
Here’s the socialist meme a coming..those folks who choose not to have insurance MUST CARRY INSURANCE. Ooooh…
Just like states require auto insurance.
But I can choose to not have a car!
No constitutional issue on the mandates, nosireebob, don’t you worry…
I have a choice to own a car/car insurance
This guys a closet Republican.
Potus was spanking the babies and the majority in the hall is clear. He was making the case.
Then Obama went bi-party and the radical ideas (like Canada)..
Now back to ”bring the best ideas”…well he already knows
Thought it was going to be good at the start, and I do see many points like not F’in up 1/6 of the econ – but that points to the ideas of thr LEFT that are correct
Same with econ – prop up the house of cards for a bad system so billions can continue to those who will keep the ATM open for themselves.
The theory of tweeking, and then MAYBE something more (like that person that died getting kicked off insurance – I am sorry but that is wheeling and dealing with MURDER’s for less MURDER…ummm that is a good start since we must keep people alive, but what of the rest and after that release the kidnap victims if we are lucky?
He can do it. The speeches can be great. I wish him luck and hope to join a 10 million person march…Got functioning democracy?
He is still here…
Because we are engaging him.
I’m 80% convinced that he’ll ditch the public option. No surprise. I’m pissed, though.
Laugh line! Wow.
are we seeing the poll numbers tank more than they have already?
Yessirree.
Immediate catastrophic coverage is a good idea.
At the end, I hope he says: “Ok, good night all, I have to pull the plug on Grandma.”
Raven – instead of paying attention to me, maybe you should be listening to obama’s historic speech. i.e. “the defining speech of obama’s presidency”.
yeah, i guess it is pretty zzzzzzz so far.
Like, some companies hire temps and part time workers her in CA to avoid health insurance regulations…so how can that be addressed?
Even Bush didn’t force us to buy insurance from private industry.
Now we will get to see whether or not the progressives have spinal columns or not.
Sorry Mr. President — statesmanship & consensus building around sound policies for the Public Good are no match against corporate shills spouting hate speech & fear mongering.
This is Paulson’s Wall Street Bailout Part II – insurance industry at the trough.
Citizen newtonusr:
Then ignore ‘im but get the fuck off MY lawn!
WHAT NO DEATH PANELS?
Forgive me, but are all of those folks ready, willing and able to pay for a sudden accident that puts them in the hospital for 3 weeks? Or is that my job?
shit I’m watching tennis too.
Republicans aren’t clapping, that means they want death panels
Finally calling a lie, a lie! About time!
He’s proud of the fact that women will not be entitled to health care that they need.
Goody.
Liar, liar says the President. Republicans don’t seem to be happy being called liars.
Hi, guys -
Could anyone tell what that shout from the right side was?
We didn’t just have an elected lawmaker call the Pres. a liar in front of the world, did he? Interrupting a speech?
Wow, Rs double down on SarahBarracuda’s death panel lie. Weird choice. Really weird.
Dood !
smattering of applause for public option
He got booed over the “no insurance for illegal immigrants” And yet not over fed $ for abortions, )which is a constitutionally protected right_
prolly. But the liberal media will gloss over it.
TREASON!!!!
The Call from the right was someone asking “Why” when he said no “illegals” would be covered.
Did I miss those words? Didn’t hear them.
Rethugs bring the teaparty to the joint session of congress.
Schumer grinning quite happily there.
aite all you whiny mofo’s
…
yeah?
Maybe govt should take over the insurance companies…bouwhahaahahaha
Tomorrow’s headline:
Obama Chooses the McCain Plan
I’m so glad I voted for the McCain clone for president.
Woah, here comes PO.
“accountable” … never heard him use that word before.
No they don’t provide a service. KILL the fucking health insurance companies already. Goddamn pussy.
Was that what was said? All I heard was the sound, no syllables came through.
An insurance exchange – magically, millions of Americans will be able to bargain collectively with insurance companies. Any mention of interstate regulation?
In four years. McCain’s “low cost coverage” in the interim. WTF is that?
Individual mandates. Employer mandates. Most employers exempted.
No mention of public option.
Apparently, there will be no death panels, though. At least not for old folks …
Apparently, the GOP doesn’t like it that illegal immigrants won’t be covered.
Gospel of the market. “Works better when there’s competition.” Then mentions that many states have little competition between insurance plans.
Doesn’t want to put insurance companies out of business. Just wants to hold them accountable.
On the edge of my seat waiting for him to get tort reform in there. Another Republican fave.
I think the booing was for the person who asked why no illegals would be covered.
OK. He finally said it. How will he qualify it?
