Are You With a Local Democratic Party? The Public Option Needs Your Help

By: Jane Hamsher Tuesday August 25, 2009 12:30 pm

If you’re a member of a local DFA group, a Democratic club, a Drinking Liberally or any other local organization, we’d like to have you pass the resolution demanding the inclusion of a strong public option in any final health care bill.  You can find the language and sign on here.  And you can also sign on as an individual.

We’ve got the momentum going.  Let’s  keep ratcheting it up.

Join Us Tonight in Reston, Virginia, for Jim Moran/Howard Dean Event

By: Jane Hamsher Tuesday August 25, 2009 9:40 am

Howard Dean will be joining Jim Moran at a town hall in Reston, Virginia tonight. Randall Terry is going to be targeting it, and there’s a lot of buzz on both sides about it, so it should be quite an event. I’ll be there with Virginia blogger Ben Tribbett of NotLarrySabato, who got Terry McAuliffe to agree to do a fundraiser for the first Virginia Democrat in the Senate or House who agrees to take the pledge.

After the event, Ben and I are going to be hosting a get together for all the bloggers who attend. It will be at Clyde’s of Reston (google map): 11905 Market Street, Reston VA, 20190, (703) 787-6601.

Cooper Lashes Back At Kos, Accuses Him Of “Cooking Up Poll Results”

By: Jane Hamsher Monday August 24, 2009 12:36 pm

My my my. After Markos published poll results indicating Cooper had a 16% approval rating on his handling of health care from Democrats in his district and was ripe for a primary challenge, Cooper isn’t too happy:

Your Junk Insurance Is About to Get Worse, Courtesy of Max Baucus & Rahm Emanuel

If you think your insurance is expensive and doesn’t cover much now, wait until the Senate Finance Committee bill gets jammed through the Senate: In May, the Senate Finance Committee discussed requiring that insurers reimburse at least 76% of policyholders’ medical costs under their most affordable plans. Now the committee is considering setting that rate [...]

Jim Cooper and Karl Rove Talking Health Care in Nashville This Saturday

By: Jane Hamsher Monday August 24, 2009 8:50 am

David Walker, head of the Pete Peterson foundation and noted Social Security slasher, is also on the bill at an event hosted by the Rand Corporation.  Cooper, who now has 16% approval among Democrats in his district on his handling of health care, should feel right at home.

Jim Cooper: 16% Approval On Health Care Among Democrats

By: Jane Hamsher Monday August 24, 2009 7:15 am

If any primary challengers in TN-05 were waiting for a signal that Jim Cooper was vulnerable, the Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll of his district should be a welcome signal.

Donna Edwards (and others) could learn a thing or two from Jerry Nadler

By: Eve (nyceve) Gittelson Sunday August 23, 2009 10:16 am

Several months ago, I helped persuade encourage Jerry Nadler to take the whip count pledge.  So I’m particularly thrilled to see that’s he’s standing firm as iron these days. From the way he’s talking, he’s a changed man–delighted he took the pledge, and knowing full well the critical nature of the pledge project. And for anyone with lingering doubts that the path to securing the public option runs [...]

Is Donna Edwards Catching the #Rahmflu?

By: Jane Hamsher Saturday August 22, 2009 4:00 am

It was somewhat disconcerting when Donna Edwards would not confirm to the Hill this week Edwards, who signed the letter, that she would vote against any bill through conference that did not have a public plan.
