Nashville Metro General, which treats 30% of the city’s uninsured, may be ready to close its doors because of lack of funding. But Jim Cooper has his health care priorities — namely, how to contain "rising health care spending."
Which, as Southern Beale informs us, Cooper will be discussing in Nashville this Saturday with — Karl Rove:
Karl Rove’s sole expertise is in politics–in particular, the politics of dirty tricks, wedge issues, and political manipulation. He’s a controversial figure, to put it mildly, facing his own barrage of scandals over the U.S. Attorney firings. Putting Karl Rove on a panel on health care costs, of which he knows nothing, is offensive and alienates anyone to the left of George W. Bush.
The invitation is here. David Walker, head of the Pete Peterson foundation and noted Social Security slasher, is also on the bill at an event hosted by the Rand Corporation. Cooper, who now has 16% approval among Democrats in his district on his handling of health care, should feel right at home.
Update: Rove’s name is now off the invite, and per hate2haggle in the comments, Cooper’s office is telling people that Rove won’t be there.

About FDL Action
Susie excerpts Taibbi’s newest, this time on health care. She concludes that the sausage really is sh*t:
Quelle surprise.
Excellent reading for anybody who still believes that the bills on offer do anything more than (a) bail out the insurance companies with the mandate and (b) force millions of us to buy junk insurance.
This is an ex-parrot…
And I will be willing to bet that they push the new GOP myth of “Death Books” for veterans.Hannity and Michael Steele were pushing this new GOP myth late last week.
Read this short article on the “Death Book” myth. We need to stop this crap before it gets out of hand like the death panel phrase did.

Despicable.
fyi – here is the “About Us” page for event sponsor: Rand Compare
color me surprised
how about healthcare reform that gives opt outs for Southeastern and Plains Dead Zone states? They’ll be exempt from both the benefits of any program that gets passed and for any taxation to pay for it, in exchange for their reps and senators sitting out of the whole debate. ;-P.
this is only half-intended as snark.
I just called Cooper’s Nashville Office and the staffer told me Rove would not be attending.
In his WaPo piece today, Steele also continues with the “Obama wants to kill old people” lie.
Rove must have read the poll Jane showed in the earlier post.
I’m getting the Death Panels for Vets email forwards. Fucking people that supposedly are so brave get cowered by this horseshit. In “The Shootist” John Wayne’s doc, Jimmy Stewart says “If I were a man like you I wouldn’t die a death like this”.
OT – I just heard DN!’s Amy Goodman cite the Lake while she’s talking with Michael Issakof (sp) of NewSpeak mag. Hot shit.

They got comfortable sittin’ on their ass watchin’ American Idol so now they’re afraid of their own shadow. Watchin’ ‘em change over the last 25 years has been quite the learning experience. Fat, dumb and

On FEC’s reporting software “Retired” goes into the “Current Employer” box but the profession box is still required, eg, Retired, truck driver, for contributions over $200.
I have a buddy around the corner who is a disabled grunt, no such whinin from him.
I don’t hear it from the ones I can stand to be around.
People from all backgrounds who fall for the lies do so because it’s what they WANT to believe.
Fits right in with their world view.
Persecution complex as a way of life.
