Dean Mougianis sends video that he took of Arlen Specter calling Chuck Grassley at Netroots Nation today. Grassley didn’t answer.
When pressed about it afterwards, Specter said "I’ll catch up with him. Remember what they said about about Billy Conn, ‘he can run but he can’t hide?’ I’ll find him."
Actually nobody under the age of 90 associates that phrase with Billy Conn.
Specter subsequently tweeted:
Called Senator Grassley to tell him to stop speading myths about health care reform and imaginary "death panels."
To which Grassley replied "U aint nothin ima f#!k u up." Nah just kidding. But it’s easy to foresee an era where political figures enter Twitter fame wars just to beef up their subscriber numbers. Specter got good play off of that one — tweaked the birthers and pandered to the Dems at the same time.

If you want to get a response from Specter, challenge him. He can’t resist.
They don’t call him Snarlin’ Arlen for nothing. We should keep this in mind in the heat of the primary.
While I’m no fan of Scrapple, I did give him a lot of credit for saying he’d call Grassley, not hesitating to say Grassley was “wrong” in public and then following through. This is a pretty rare occurence amongst our stuffed shirt senators.
Still, he’s toast. I watched Sestak come from behind and win over PA-07 and I’m watching it happen again statewide.
Remember, I was on the record :) saying Sestak would win this way before he declared, and back when his poll numbers were absolutely miserable. In May, at a house party, Sestak told a core group of supporters in the district that he was in this to win and he was confident in spite of the odds and in spite of the fact that he was pressured by some pretty daunting powers that be to stay out of the race. If you are looking for political courage, it’s right here in front of you.
Note that Sestak loves a challenge too. The more Specter taunts him, the more determined he will be. He’s an exceptionally serious and sincere guy, but I’ve also seen him thrust his fist toward the ground and spin around when talking about certain aspects of this race.
And if you’re wondering if the talk about his daughter is fake or contrived, it’s not. During his first campaign, she was often with him at events and many times we watched him give entire speeches while carrying his little daughter around because she insisted on being with her dad (even though she wasn’t crazy about being up there in front of a crowd and would occasionally make faces at us, which I thought was hysterical). It didn’t faze him a bit. He’d just keep talking while she was climbing on him.
