FDL Action now has the only searchable recess events calendar on the web. You’ll find it embedded in our right sidebar, in which you can enter your zip code and find out all about upcoming events for Democratic members of Congress in your area. The events listed in the calendar have been crowd sourced by readers, who have been calling their members of Congress and searching online then reporting the details back to us.
You can also now embed the FDL searchable events widget in any website. Just copy and paste the code below in your html:

Events listings are being updated constantly. You can find a copy of FDL’s Guide to Running Your Own Recess Event here (PDF).
Democratic members of Congress knew that they would be under attack by well funded right-wing astroturf operations in their districts during recess. Chellie Pingree warned about it on the floor of the House on July 22. The donations of our readers and the time they were willing to put in to compiling these events gives progressives who support health care reform an effective tool with which to organize in their communities and fight back against the astroturfing efforts of the insurance industry.
Many thanks to Blue State Digital who moved us to the top of the "to do" list and made this happen in a timely fashion. You can help us pay for it by donating here.

Wonderful, Jane! Thank you. I’m hoping that you and the other top bloggers are going to plan some kind of a grand finale for us while you’re at Netroots. Parades or something on a coordinated date. (Specially with Durbin getting shaky.)
Jane, you are aces in my list.
emptywheel campaign gets $300 per month.
Keep reminding me of the need for money to coordinate with. $300 from B of A should be mailed on 8/13 for ATTN: PUBLIC PLAN FUND.
I am on disability and have full coverage. Yes these “thank you” payments cut into my life style, but these issues are too important to not support.
Please, remember that FDR got Social Security and Unemployment through in two of the worst years of the 1930s depression. Have no compunction about going for single payer.
Also, keep in mind that the ratholes that the conservatives love pouring the national debt down, known as the Iraq and Afghan wars, are a total waste of money.

Hi. I have a question. How do I enter an event that I know about that is not on your list and that I am in no way organizing? Congressman Andre Carson is attending a general town hall meeting for our local neighborhood association on August 24, 2009 at 7 p.m. I happen to know that a local teabagger group has listed this event on their website as a meetup. I do not see any information about it when I use the event tracker.
The party of No isn’t convincing people.
Poll at LATimes.com, in a column on the coverage (’Healthcare debate framed by fear-mongering …’):
Your Vote
Are critics of healthcare reform being truthful?
18.4% Yes. Socialized medicine is a serious concern.
4.2% Sort of, but there’s been some exaggeration.
77.4% No. They’re trying to scare the you-know-what out of people.

Is there a way to reduce the width of the widget to maybe 200 or so? The current 300 width messes up the format of my blog, and if I reduce it to 200, it cuts off the text. Is it possible to offer the widget in a variety of sizes?
Jane, the widget tool looks good and works well. Thanks for all of your hard work (and I hope you are taking good care of yourself). I will be placing it on my SinkSpecter web site.
I saw a headline in Google News that led to a really nice letter to the editor of Knoxville News Sentinel. It is from a doctor who supports a public plan and who explains why he finds Medicare plus supplement coverage the best to deal with and the best for his patients. The message is clear and simple and possibly could be useful to someone, hence, I’m posting a link here:
Public plan option best for health care
this is a great tool and very easy to use – thank you jane and thanks to blue state digital.
Thank you so much. And single payer is definitely the goal.
You can add an event, click on “enter event” and put in the details.
