I asked Steve Steffens of Left Wing Cracker to elaborate on the teabaggers who brought guns to Steve Cohen’s Memphis health care event:
Since this was in North Memphis, the damn fools may have thought there would be crowds of angry black 9th District residents. Remember, we have the legislature that voted to allow guns in bars this year. Again, most of the wingnuts weren’t from the 9th District, they were from Arkansas, Mississippi and the suburban counties in Tennessee.

Glad I don’t live there, and I bet they are glad I don’t too. *g*
This is important too:
CRITICAL: help Sen. Bingaman save the Public Option

Esp after Obama said THIS to the “Gang of Six” the other day:
Here’s what Obama told them:
As long as THEY’RE “comfortable…that’s what matters to our president; that and a noodle for a spine.
Now there’s a good idea . . .
*head meets desk*
Hey man you got a beef with me?? Well FU take that.. you know what happens next.. It is totally wrong to all allow any one but the police to carry guns into a public meeting. It is just asking for violence!! And of course innocents are always the victims of such violence!
Doug Jackson – Difference Maker
Knowing that they came from outside the state, it makes one wonder if the motive for Sen. Thune’s concealed weapons amendment is related.
We almost passed a law allowing guns in church this year… unless the church posted signs requesting folks leave them in the car.
I was raised in AR, and lived in Berryville (Carroll Co.) for a time. My whole family still lives there. The Guns in church thing made me laugh. I mean, seriously, if you need a gun in church, you need to find another church.
Just sayin’.
Guns in Bars is a threat to the threat I make on my liver weekly. /snarkish
Are the blue dogs still proud of their cunning plan to delay things until after the August recess?
I dunno. Ask Mike Ross (AR04). He had a severe clusterfluffle at HIS town hall. I wonder how proud he is of himself now?
PS. Vic Snyder(AR02), I know you, I’ve had more beers than I can count with you. WTF are you doing?
I have a friend who married a guy who won’t go anywhere, e.g. the grocery store, without a gun. You never know when you might need to shoot someone. I’m sure not going to argue with a bunch of armed wingers. On the other hand, I can understand it. If they think DFHs like this are the opposition, packing heat makes some sense:

Why aren’t legislators checking for residency at their town halls? It would seem likely to help limit people causing problems and ensure they are hearing from their own constituents.
That makes too much sense but also it would be picked up as a fascist plot. “Show us your papers” and such.
It would be hard to implement, though, with so many seniors. Then the opposing team’s bus tour tactics would be given moral legitimacy as “giving rides to seniors who can’t drive because they don’t have licenses”.
I suppose the guns make them feel manly and strong, but seriously, it’s outright intimidation, knowing that they are there with their guns. We’ve been told “If you don’t give us our 1st amendment (meaning give us what we want), we’ll give you the second amendment”. I sure as hell hope it just makes them look bad like Palin’s crazies did at her rallies. (I hope I’m not the only one who saw it that way). This is in no way acceptable. These people are clones of the authoritarians and racists who eventually murdered civil rights workers, the same faces, same behavior, same reasons, same excuses.
So how long is it going to be before the first shooting at one of these meetings?
I honestly think the whole idea is to shut off ALL discussion, not just healthcare. If they get away with this, every fucking time there’s something proposed they don’t like(which means everything but tax cuts and war)they’ll pull this armed Brooks Brothers bullshit. It needs to stop, now. No one needs to be carrying a god damned gun to a healthcare forum. If they’re that scared of everything they need to lay in supplies and stay the hell home.
I have had it with these nitwits.
Most CCW permit holders don’t even brandish without a serious threat to the safety of them selves or those they love, let alone fire.
That said, when you get many people together one person that is not thinking clearly can cause a tragedy. I think it would be more likely for the people packing heat to shoot each other.
Scenario I hope does not happen:
Heated conversation leads to a bit of “get out of my face” shoving. Gun is brandished. “he’s gonna shoot me”. Other gun owners pull their guns. Someone mistakes a move to de-escalate and a shot is fired. In confusion other people mistake the accident for a threat and shoot “in self defense”.
This is why it is a very bad idea for people with CCW permits to carry to political events.
