@19

Bob Filner for years has been fighting to get legislation passed to provide monthly stpends to the families of WWII merchant marines.

Only recently were the merchant marines officially recognized as being considered part of the war effort.

Filner has been the lone voice in the wilderness for these aged survivors and their families.

He’s one of the good ones.

Check this out:

MERCHANT MARINE BILL PASSES FULL HOUSE — Would give World War II …Click here to use our search engine to learn more about the Merchant Marines. We get the latest from Rep.

This sounded like a big sucking sound to me. I’m flabbergasted that this congressman was talking about a plan than only 4 percent of the public would be eligible for. Is this really the extent of our big D, big guns plan?

yes, maybe 10million people is all. it is an insignificant little fig-leaf on a bad plan.

Jane CNN had a nice clip about the Health Care Reform Rally today in D.C. wonder if Matthews, RAchel, Olbermann, Ed will cover this rally since they completely missed the Health Care Now last Thursday in D.C. They completely missed covering this rally because they were busy showing the same Obama Beer Summit clip hundreds of times over the evening

Matthews came out Monday and Tuesday as he was showing the “screamers” on his show and asked ‘where are the folks from the other side” Wonder if he will ignore the rally today? If last week is any indication he will keep his head up where the sun does not shine on the Pro health Care Reform rallies

That’s a work of Atwater art. A symphonic piece that the R’s love. Karl Rove, Atwater redux. Satan’s spawn - both of them.

You know what’s really sick? Black Republican Pundits like Juan Williams and Michelle Berman (sp) and that poor silly cross-eyed fellow and Michael Steele.

I want a public option that is viable.

I want one that small, medium and large corporations with deep pockets, those that are also being held up for highway robbery and virtually being driven to bankruptcy courts by insurance companies, have the option to join.

I saw it on Olbermann or Rachel. I’ll have to look for it. The gist of it is better explained at comment 30. I was hoping someone else here knew more about this congressman and the details of this 4 percent idea.

Sure sounds shitty. If a bill with that kind of weak tea makes it to the royal senate, the royals will render it totally non-functional.

I’ve never heard of or seen that stat before. I’d think it more likely that 4% of Americans would at first opt for the public option, not that it’s only open to 4% of the population.

As with everything else in this country, it all comes down to race. Racism is what the GOP uses to keep white working class males (especially Southern ones) from supporting unions and non-Pentagon government spending.

Here’s key Republican strategist Lee Atwater in 1981:

”You start out in 1954 by saying, ‘Ni–er, ni–er, ni–er.’ By 1968 you can’t say ‘ni–er’ — that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states’ rights and all that stuff. You’re getting so abstract now [that] you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites.

”And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I’m not saying that. But I’m saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me — because obviously sitting around saying, ‘We want to cut this,’ is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than ‘Ni–er, ni–er.”’

A guest on an MSNBC political show - a milquetoasty congressman - was flabbergasted b/c all this astroturfed feigned outrage generated by insurance co lobbyists - was all because 4 percent of Americans might be covered by the public option.

He continued to say that 96 percent of Americans will have private health insurance under the reform.

This sounded like a big sucking sound to me. I’m flabbergasted that this congressman was talking about a plan than only 4 percent of the public would be eligible for. Is this really the extent of our big D, big guns plan?
