Here’s a round-up of the latest action in Colorado, New Jersey, Oregon, New Mexico, California, Nevada, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Nebraska:
Colorado Zappatero at Square State has questions for Jared Polis and wondered, "Is Jared going the way of the Blue Dogs and proving to be more hindrance than help in fixing health care?"
New Jersey Jason Springer at Blue Jersey pulled together numbers for each district and asked, "If you call, get your member of Congress to take the pledge."
Oregon Torridjoe at Loaded Orygun headlined Lobby Your House Member in August: Here’s Where with a full list of Oregon events he researched and added to the database.
Virginia Lowell Feld of Blue Virginia congratulated the Alexandria Democratic Committee for passing a resolution demanding a public option.
New Mexico LP at NM FBIHOP urged readers to Show up to town halls to discuss health care and "Tell them to support a strong public option and try not to be too annoyed by the tea party types that seem to have invaded the Republican Party."
California Marta Evry at Venice for Change pulled together a listing of all California Town Hall events
Nevada Myrna the Minx at Reno Discontent let her readers know she expects all of them to sign up, saying, "It’s time for an accounting. Do our legislators work for us or for insurance corporations?"
Minnesota Stephanie at Alliance for a Better Minnesota called August the health care battleground and urged readers to, "Take action in August by attending events in your area with your members of Congress, so by the time they reconvene, they are as ready as the American people to pass health care reform."
North Carolina Gordon Smith of Scrutiny Hooligans took Heath Shuler to task by the numbers in NC-11 and ask, "Call him one more time – 202-225-6401 in DC; if the number there is busy (which is likely), try the Asheville office – 828-252-1651."
Nebraska Adam Green called out Kyle Michaelis for triangulating against 76% of Americans who support the public option in an attempt to defend Ben Nelson for threatening to kill health care reform if people criticize him.
What are you doing to draw a line in the sand and demand a public health insurance option?

About FDL Action
Hey! I introduced and helped get passed that resolution by Alexandria VA Dems. Thanks for the shout-out!
Fairfax County Dems also on record, hopefully Arlington County Dems will do so tonight. Then we’ll see if we can use the combined clout of the three committees to get the attention of Warner, Webb, Moran. Baby steps …
I was notified by HCAN about a town hall meeting with Rep. Mike Thompson on Monday aft at 3 pm in Napa – rather far from where I live but maybe I could find some transport help. Later I realized that the email was sent after 5 pm Monday evening, after the meeting. In the meantime, I had misread the notice, thinking the meeting was to be on Wed the 5th and tried to arrange transportation to the event and sent out emails to about 30 folks to let them know and urge their attendance.
Today I talked to the Napa office of Rep Mike Thompson to see how it went and was told that there were reportedly some 500 folks in attendance with twice as many protesters as neutral and supporter folks. The folks participating in the forum did not buckle under the protesters pressure. After the newspaper report the following day, the office was flooded with supporter calls asking what they could do to counteract the assaults.
I was saddened by the news of the opposition but proud of Rep Thompson
and his forum colleagues. It should be noted that he voted for HR 3200 and is strongly committed to a robust public option. You can read his position in a June speech that is at his web site. I have not asked him to take the pledge because his vote was widely hailed in the area press as a break from the blue dog contingency of which he has been a part on other issues, altho I find his positions on the web page to be very strongly progressive on many issues.
Anyway, I had a great talk with the Napa staffer and we developed a plan to get a statement from him about his positions on health care that we might include in the September issue of the newsletter that goes out to 150-200 older folks with neuropathy in his district; along with copy from the AARP health care myths item at their web site; we might also be able to get a speaker from one of the offices come speak at the Sept. support group meetings. I’m excited that I can help spread the word via the neuropathy network about some of the issues and how their representative is acting on their behalf.
Learned that Rep. Thompson was speaking this afternoon in West Sac, where I live and I tried to get permission to attend the closed meeting for elected officials and small business owners this afternoon. The staffer finally affirmed that I was a friend and not an enemy, but still said no to my appeal to attend.
My part of the country is not on the priority list of FDL’s action goals and strategies, but I’m doing what I can within networks and my immobility problems.
Blessings,
Wow, that totally rocks. WTG!!!
I just spoke with Cong. Brad Miller’s office (D-NC)…they will not be holding any town hall meetings due to security concerns. Their Raleigh office has been getting phones calls promising problems if there was one. I’m still trying to find out about Sens. Hagan and Burr…
The people have remembered history and recognize the government is about to replace capitalism with communism. They know certain suffering and early death is in store for 100s of millions of their children and grandchildren as it has in every socialized country on the planet. They are very angry. Proponents of government health care are extremely ill informed of history or just evil, based on selfishness. If the progressive communist like government housing, they will love government health care.
