Hamsher said she welcomes the new Democratic offensive against the insurance industry:
“I can tell you that members of the Blue Dog coalition . . . have said that if somebody had launched a campaign against the insurance industries in their districts from the start that they would not have been able to resist. But that didn’t happen,” she said. “So, you know, we created this situation where there is no villain, and the public doesn’t understand what’s going on.”
Trying to tell a story without a villain was a really stupid idea to begin with. Hard to believe the Democratic health care campaign has been running since last year and people just figured that out. The orders coming out of the White House to all the liberal groups were not to run ads against the insurance industry (they’re the new banks I guess), and also not to target Democrats. Ads were supposed to be focused on Republicans, because — and I shit you not — this was supposed to make Democrats feel better about voting for a public plan.
Nobody anticipated that the Blue Dogs might be a problem. Nobody ran a proactive campaign in their districts. Since Rahm is very much in support of what the Blue Dogs are lobbying for and would like to have triggers himself, the word went down, that was that. The Blue Dogs have just completed a wholly successful First Round of dismantling a public plan in the House. Round 2 will come when the bill hits the floor, and Round 3 will come in conference. There is no plan to stop them.
Co-ops! Who could’ve predicted?

Okay, really, this is getting ridiculous. Rahm is not the President, who has repeatedly expressed preference for a public option. Just in the past few days, prominent senators like Rockerfeller and Schumer have come out to say they support a public option in the final bill. I’m not saying the public option is a done deal or anything like it, but really, it’s absurd to act like the White House has planned to implement co-ops all along when we know nothing of the kind.
Blue Dongs (hee) haven’t completed anything yet other than obstruction. Why give up so easily and buy into the meme that they’ve won anything? You know this is going to be a lengthy battle.
Our representative are Honest. Honest!
We the taxpayers, pay our Representatives a stipend while in office. This stipend is much, much smaller that the overall cost of being elected and being in office.
Our representatives have to raise large sums of money from private sources. These private sources are paymasters, and like all people beholden to their paymasters, our elected representative are beholden to their paymasters, roughly in proportion to how much they were paid by each set of paymasters.
We get the representation we paid for. The stipend. Other paymasters get what they paid for. Control over legislation.
Our representative are not corrupt. They are honest. When bought they remain bought.
The system? Hopelessly corrupt.
OT:McCain will not vote for Sotomayor…Oh,surprise.
Jane doing a MSNBC watch again tonight So far Chris Matthews just did five minutes on the “Just Say No” rallies. Chris did not do one minute on the Health Care Now March that was held in Washington D.C. last week. Hell either did Ed, or Rachel. It was five hours of MSNBC coverage of the Beer fest.
What the hell is up with Matthews covering the Republicans “Just Say No” rally when he did not touch the tens of thousands marching last Thursday?
The Public Option folks need to hold a Just Say Know march about the facts.
This round robin is making me crazy!
The corporate shilling at its best. That’s the only way I can describe what the Blue Dogs and the media are up to here. Add in the recent tea bag morons acting like brownshirts and you have a beautiful triumvirate of suck.
B.F.D. McNut job should just go home and STFU.
Isn’t it odd that so much is getting screwed up. Random chance? Incompetence? Having all these coincidences is unlikely. Having the democrats anoint “Buffalo Bung” Baucus to kill it with vigor is a clue. Isn’t it odd that D- Senators that have taken millions in contributions from the health insurance syndicate attack something else in the media, from Palin to climate change. They ignore calls from their constituents about health reform.
We have a very corrupt senate. Same thing goes with the house. We need to remove them soon, or we are doomed to a bribery driven economy forever.
Co-ops sounds like Communism to me.(tee hee) Think I will continue the socialist public option package
Obama Tries to Sell “Co-ops” As Public Plan
http://campaignsilo.firedoglak…..blic-plan/
Obama is never going to get anything done on health care reform because he has people like Evan Bayh who are sabotaging the reform process.
Check this clip out where he basically validates every single lie that Sean Hannity tells.
http://progressnotcongress.org/?p=2382
The folks on MSNBC have to tread carefully; GE is deep in the healthcare business, finances healthcare facilities and equipment, makes large-scale healthcare equipment like MRI machines and X-ray, and used to be a healthcare insurer itself (Genworth, now spun off).
And Jeff Immelt and Rupert Murdoch reached a “Do not attack our facts” agreement that seeks to prevent Keith Olbermann from fact-checking Fox.
And did you notice lobbyist Richard Wolfe substituting for Olberman, who is “on vacation” or “has the night off”? A corporate shill with ties to the healthcare industry is Wolfe, and it was never disclosed on the broadcast.
Unlike Rachel and Ed, Keith does not have a radio show they can go back to.
And Chris Matthews is of two minds about everything.
Why do you all think Obama won’t come out and say he’ll veto anything without the public option?
Jesus,
– force Americans to buy health insurance
– make sure insurance companies make a profit
– sell this plan to progressives
Thanks, all.
Barack Obama owns all of this. And progressives may get tired of being used so he and Rahn can sell us out for cooperatives.
See the post Jane linked to at Comment #11 (2:30 FDL)
The American public will be given healthcare “reform” that is nothing more than a piece of shit and from the smell Americans will think there is a pony in the room. It’s way past time to have a 3rd party. Obama’s biggest success will likely be his “Cash for Clunkers.” What a legacy.
The teabaggers, birthers, wingnuts, republiclans and corporatists have a strategy to make a mockery of scheduled townhall meetings during the Congressional recess. Their willing allies in the corporate media will spin these “disruptions” as proof that the majority of Americans are satisfied with their healthcare. Obama and the Dems have been outflanked by fascist forces. His slavish faith in “bipartisanship” made this all possible.
Nice, more corporate wellfare. Americans get screwed again. Obama will be one and out.
Over the past few months it has become obvious that Obama is a conservative Democrat. Conservative Democrats are not keen on a true public option, they want Health Insurance Company profits to stay healthy, not the health of the average citizen.
Obama is better than McCain, but just by a few degrees,
I definitely don’t think it’s his faith in “bipatisanship” at all. It’s his faith in the corporate money that got him elected and will drive him to usurp the will of 3/4 of America.
Why won’t Obama say he’ll veto a bill without public option? Because as Tom Wells points out, the White House owns all this. Baucus is not doing this whole back room deal making on his own. He’s not a leader. He follows. He helped Bush pass his tax cuts. He helped Bush pass the first giveaway to insurance companies called Medicare Plan D. He helps presidents.
The coup happened in 2000. The shock doctrine of privatization, deregulation and stripping down social programs is in full operating mode.
Actually, if McCain had been elected people might actually be in the streets putting pressure on the criminals and traitors in Congress. With Obama, most who voted for him thinks he is playing 3 dimensional chess and is 6 steps ahead of those who are determined to complete the destruction of the middle class. S U C K E R S!
Jane, I don’t think I’ve told you this, but I love your candor.
I don’t how anyone could still be thinking Obama is going to change anything? I should have known the minute that SOB picked Rhamm to be his COS.
I have news for some here. I am the public and I do understand better than some of you so called parents think about what organized health care is all about. It is about socialism that is also communism that creates dictatorships. Miss. Hamsher got on TV and acted like she was my mother telling me what is good for me. Miss Hamsher call the public stupid. I have news for you Miss Hamsher, I am 41 Years Old, I have study history all of my life, I am an accountant by trade so that means I understand what it is you are doing and I know the numbers mean one thing that my great, great, great, great grandkids are going to pay your Social Commi experiment. I know that will happen because it already has happened in Britain, France, New Zealand and just ask the Canadians expect for drug cost being low do they like there 1 1/2 month waiting system to get in to see a doctor? No way. I know that adding a trillion dollars no matter how much you sugar coat it will actually but you in debt a trillion dollars because you see you and your government are broke and there is no money coming from China at all. The math is simple. You and friends must have been in class when they forgot to teach all of you to add. I hate to tell you that numbers are the only thing that does not lie. Another thing that does not lie is the experiment that a teacher did at his students request see the results and I guarantee it will always be like this.
If somebody is unable to understand THIS explanation, I have serious doubts about their ability to even function in society, much less run our country!
As the late Adrian Rogers said, “you cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”
Professor is a Genius
Error! Filename not specified.
An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before,
but had once failed an entire class.
——————————————–
That class had insisted that Obama’s socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, “OK,
we will have an experiment in this class on Obama’s plan”.
All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.
The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.
As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D!
No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
The scores never increased as bickering,
blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.
All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.
Could not be any simpler than that.
(Please pass this on)
that’s interesting because both thurs and friday tweety was bitching and moaning ‘where are the demonstrators’ ‘why isn’t anyone on the streets’ — feeding the meme that the public doesn’t care about this issue.
tweets is in destructor mode and is going after obama now, ginning up any issue that he thinks might have some traction to just keep chipping away at obama’s support. a couple of weeks ago he was on a tear about the possibility that abortions would be covered in any new plan; he then declared obama’s health care plan dead; he obsessed for days on the gatesgate drama and then the killing grandma and grandpa meme he picked up from his rnc pals.
he is one of the most rancid and destructive of the ‘legitimate’ media magpies.
Semantics is playing a big part in this. Obama wasn’t successful in selling the co-op plan as a public plan. But we’ve already capitulated on the meaning of “day one,” saying it’s fine if that means four years from now. So we’re against triggers but we’re in favor of a deferment. Best case, if we win this battle, they’ll let us have our public plan, with no triggers, but it won’t start for five years–they can always undo it before then.
Obama is turning out to be a real disaster for the American people but a real boon for the status quo. His legacy will be “the first mixed ethnic elected” to the Presidency, and of course the “Cash for Clunkers.” Other than that it’s business as usual in the cesspool.
I have study history all my life?
Were you home schooled?
[Edited by Mod. Please refrain from personal attacks on other commenters.] It’s obvious you’ve never had to access healthcare here in america you [Edited by Mods.
Ho, boy, we got a live one.
Breathing but brain dead.
What a great line. Still laughing.
Seems to be stuck in the Fifties. 1850s that is.
Sorry, but when you are nearly bankrupted by insurance companies while you struggle to keep your child alive makes one a litle irate by such ignorance. I will refrain in the future. Apologies to all.
I guess the Rethugs want to draw a line in the sand on health insurance. OK, assholes, watch this. *takes big step, dragging other foot through sand, creating large trench across line*
It’s time to make ourselves seen, live and in living colour. Make a trip to your Rep’s and Sen’s local office and tell them what you think. Every day, M-F. Take a bunch of friends with you. If you’re into a little civil disobedience do a sit-in, or better yet, a die-in inside or outside their office. Not sure what a die-in is, ask some of the original Irak war protesters.
I have study history all my life? I half studied meself,
No apologies necessary on my account. Lay on with a will.
Hey Jetrho, could you pass along Grannies recipe for possum stew.
ROFLMAO
Around these parts we’d go to the designated spot and simply lie down.
Ya know, there are people who have asked me what a die-in was and why were they doing that. Great possibilities for street theater here. One person acting as insurance company denying claims and folks denied falling down dead.
The Brown Shirts are coming but today they wear plaid and polyester.
It would be a powerful statement. I don’t know what it’s going to take. I really do believe people think Obama is going to come through. Folks don’t want to believe he lied to them. It’s time to wake up and smell the deception.
Hey, you go on teevee and mention firedoglake.com, ya gotta expect that some insects are comin’ through the door.
so the only question becomes whether ya bother swatting them or not….
Everyone that wants change they can believe in are still under the assumption that Obama is playing 4 dimensional chess and he’s going to come through for the “people”. So far he’s come through for the banksters and by and large the statuse quo. He gives the illusion of “change” with a more enlightened approach to environmental issues.
When it’s this big a bug and it’s obviously not firin’ on all cylinders I can’t resist.
Polish a turd it’s still a turd.
I think you mean “Polis a turd, it’s still a turd.” Jared Polis did as great a job torpedoing health care from the political left as Ezra did from the journalistic left. “Even left-leaning freshman Polis opposes taxing stinking rich people like himself in order to provide health care to the uninsured…”
I just noticed that Polis is against the Cash for Clunkers program too. But don’t forget he supports gay rights. Just like Dick Cheney does.
He’s not on the WHIP list anymore, is he?
Gee, where would we be without all those progressive dems we supported last election?
Well seems to me that Obama has done what the corporations need him to do. Just today I heard someone say that we have been fooled and today I belive that we have been fooled.
For some time now I have wondered about why we have to be so nice and now today with the pictures and sound bites of crazy Republicans storming Democrat lawmakers at their home visits I feel completely screwed by the Democrats. Our dear President wants us to be nice all the time while these folks literally shit in the living room like untrained puppies. This is crazy. Evidently we have no one but ourselves.
thank you Jane ! Exhibit effing A for anyone doubting your conclusions on the collusion
lemme see, a concentration of 7 Blue Dogs on a single committee and nothing, zip to indicate there was ever a plan or move to stop their obstruction – it’s why I so lost it when I saw others high-fivin’ Waxman’s ‘deal’ with the mongrels
Bawn…here are just a few real facts rather than some made uop story about an econ professor who failed his whole class.
First Harvard 2005 study shows half of personal bankruptcies due to health care costs
Secondhttp://www.nchc.org/facts/cost.shtml “>the US, both as a proportion of GDP/total State/Federal budget, and as private citizens, pay far more than those in any other Western Democracy for heath care and gets less coverage and generally slower treatments than those in Europe or Canada.
Now about your little fairy-tale on socialism. It may sound like it would be true from someones perspective on the bottom end getting an F…but it ignores one critical aspect of social psychology. Once the upper range students realized their grades were doing down they would not “try and get a free ride”. Instead they would try and increase the average by helping the students lower down. Given that the lower students would benefit by raising the average, too…they would participate in study halls, free tutoring offered by the smarter students, etc. There would be pressure on all students to do this by other students to “raise our grades”. Of course, one would really only see this work if the Professor gave enough opportunities for the psychology to set in…by offering many weekly exams. To even roughly reflect reality the system would have to reflect a “market” in which transactions occurred on a daily scale.
Now let’s get real no teacher who imposed some crappy grading system that resulted in his entire class flunking in order to make some sort of “political point” would hold a position the next Semester. I suspect if such an event ever occurred it would have been at some unaccredited right-wing Christian “College”. Maybe that’s why you don’t give the Professors name or where they taught.
The story is made up…an fundamentalist urban legend along with the likes that Obama was born in Kenya, Darwin renounced evolution on his death-bed, or that a teenaged Einstein upbraided his “atheistic” teacher by “proving” the existence of God.
Currently our health care system is locked into the situation at the first midterm. Those with no insurance or poor finances or who have been deemed to have a “previously occurring condition” use the publically-supported emergency room (”free ride”). Health care costs and waiting times for everyone else…except those with “Cadillac health care plans” increases since many of these conditions could have been dealt with at far less cost
All the critical thinking are belong to us.
Could someone translate this into English?
Oh, thanks! I was trying to wade through this person’s atrocious grammar and syntax (he or she apparently thinks rules of English usage are a horrible infringement on one’s personal liberty) and couldn’t make head nor tail of it. Guess the person must have gone to a private school.
Jane, Shouldn’t we be going after Steve Forbes for underwriting the tactics being used by freedomworks?
delay, disrupt, disturb, derail
http://www.freedomworks.org/ab…..eve-forbes
I know why they didn’t start by making the insurance companies the enemy. It’s hard to argue a case against an enemy you want to mandate everyone buy a product from. It’s like, these people are terrible, so our solution is that you should buy their crap anyway.
It does annoy me when progressives try to sever Rahm Emmanuel from Obama or Geitner/Sumners from Obama…for all intents and purposes, they are the same person because it is Obama’s administration – he chose these people, they are serving at his pleasure…they speak for him.
Right, and if you’ll notice, I responded to that post as well.
The Health Care Now March/Rally went on in D.C. last Thursday. Thousands Marched, Reps were there. The only media outlet that covered that rally was C-Span.
Not a whisper about that rally on Chris Matthews, Keith’s,Ed’s or Rachels. They all showed the Obama Beer Summit clip at least a hundred times over the evening. Not even a whisper about the rally in D.C. that day not even a whisper.
Yet Rachel, Ed, Chris Matthews all covered the Republicans who were interrupting Reps who support Health Care reform yesterday had huge coverage by these talking heads. Chris Matthews even had the nerve to ask “where are the marches on the others side” What an ass (and I have stuck up for Matthew plenty) but he has his head up where the sun does not shine on this issue. Where the fuck were you last Thursday Chris Matthew’s? Where was your coverage of the Health Care Now march in D.C. last Thursday? Middle Americans were there, Doctors, nurses and other health care professionals who know exactly what the situation is in our broken health care system.
Where the hell was MSNBC’s coveage of this rally? They were focuse on the beer summit. And now Matthews has the slippery balls to ask “where are the marches from the other side”
Rachel is as guilty as Matthews on this one. She showed the same damn clip of the beer summit that evening and not even a whisper about that rally
