State blogs have had a huge impact in our whip count efforts. Representatives really, really care what the people in their back yards are saying. I can tell you that state blogs like Left Wing Cracker, FBIHOP, Rochester Turning and Dirigo Blue can have a bigger impact than the front page of the Washington Post on their members of Congress.
There are some great resources for state blogs, but the blog world turns over pretty fast. So we wanted to invite those who would like to partner with us on the whip count to let us know.
The fate of the health care bill, as Mike Lux said this morning, is going to be fought during recess, and that happens in the states. Teabagger outfits like Newt’s American Solutions and Americans for Propsperity are raking in the cash, and there will be millions of dollars worth of fear-mongering ads dumped into districts during the month. We’d like to work with state blogs to help them amplify their message, drive traffic to them, facilitate organizing efforts and try to bring the numbers of the grassroots to bear against the checkbooks of the lobbyists.
The effort by House progressives to stand together and push back against the Blue Dogs was successful. But it ain’t over by a long shot. If you’re with a blog that covers state politics and you’d like to be a a part of the effort, let us know in the form below.

Thanks to all the state blogs who have been so great at working with us up to now. We want to develop a much more effective way to get your links up on FDL and drive traffic back (rather than just hoping we saw it), so entering your info once again so we can have it all in one place would be really helpful.
AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Hamsher and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Great work, Sister Jane, but could FDL do somethin’ like post a collection point and address list for local political blogs…I’d love to add a few of our local Twin Cities blogs to my regular readin list and they have local organizing contacts.
Also, do you know if Obama has taken the leash off his organization that took over the DNC and opened the money faucet? With the money they have, the Obamaparaciks could really put a blanket over the corporate slime campaign that’s comin’ this August?
Great work Citizen…you’ve even got my two daughters readin’ politics here.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THE WAR IS IN OUR LIVINGROOMS NOW!!
The progressives did a good job yesterday. I was fearful the whole bill would unravel, but they properly extracted good provisions and should be commended.
Norske,
I know Organizing for America (Obama’s organiztion) was active here in Indiana organizing letter writing campaigns for health care just last weekend.
The guy who got materials to me was a paid staff person, so I know there’s a little money flowing on this issue at least at the organizing level.
So does FDL want our own personal blogs? Are you mainly looking for ones that are well-trafficked or will anything do?
I have a couple of personal blogs that have been fairly dormant in recent months, but if you think it will help I will start posting to one of them again.
Why not a simple slogan like this:
Better care, less cost, for all.
Is this not true?
Go for it!
About a month ago, Jane linked to a SquareState.net (the biggest local Colorado progressive blog) post written by Zappatero, and later a different front pager (johne) then wrote a post telling Firedoglake to but out of rural Colorado because Mike Stark made John Salazar look like the buffoon he is. http://squarestate.net/diary/8…..stay-in-dc
Is there a better Colorado blog, because I’m not sure squarestate will be very helpful if johne is defending Salazar? Maybe johne’s post is an aberration and he’s really on the right side of this debate?
Maybe talk to David Sirota (filling in for Jay Marvin) and Mario Solis-Marich, who host local drive time shows on AM-760 too to have them help out as well. am760.net
I’m in Ohio. How do I find Ohio blogs? Can you post links to state blogs?
You’re right that state blogs will be key to mustering the grassroots support needed to counter the juggernaut that will come from the health insurance lobby.
Google results for OHIO POLITICS BLOG
Buckeye State Blog has a list of ohio political blogs, HERE.
buckeyestateblog.com is on the Daily Kos blogroll
Thanks for the link — here in New Mexico, Democracy for New Mexico is also doing great, great work on the health care issue, keeping pressure on our Representatives and Senators.
I’m pretty sure johne knows that was not the time nor place to have that argument. He’s on board, I’m on board, and Sirota and Mario are just beating the crap out of Colorado’s elected official who can’t seem to get a grip on the situation we’re in and what the American people want.
Let’s do it………
I would like to know what do we do about those bluedogs in both house whom are bent on keeping the status quo. At the same time this is about healthcare, energy, education, regulations the economy period. In other words what will it take to rid ourselves of these traitors in the short and long term if we are to move a progressive agenda which we want. I think we need some short term and long term planning for there removal from office. A suggestion let adopt our own Obama plan for removal of these individuals from office. Some thoughts on this matter.
Of course, the best thing at the state level would be to allow states to experiment with single payer, since, as everybody agrees, Medicare for All is the best solution on the table. Maybe FDL could add allowing states to choose single payer onto the items it whips for? A la the Kucinich amendment?
