About FDL Action
have they finished getting signatures? I’d like to get Anna Eshoo to join her neighbor Sam Farr.
57, gee, isn’t that like a whole lot more than the 40 signatures the blue toads got?
Yay Progressive Caucus. I rescind any reference I’ve made to changing the leadership of the CPC.
I spoke to Dan Lamb, Hinchey’s local guy and he assured me that Hinchey will NOT vote for the compromise. Arcuri’s guy was a little more wishy washy, claiming that Arcuri ‘is committed to the public option” – we let him know that we are extremely concerned about Arcuri’s stance.
wooooooooooooooooot
And her good friend, and my Congresswoman, Jackie Speier. I am so proud of Jackie !
Many varieties represented.
Hmmmmmmm. I notice John Hall (D, NY-22) isn’t on the list. He’s very popular and believed to be Progressive. I’ll make a few calls to NYers who voted for him.
See? There are some smart and principled Democrats!
where’s jane harman?
Wonderful news! I wish I lived about 10 miles farther east and then I’d be in Corrine Brown’s district!
Out there dithering somewhere trying to decide which side it is best to be on for her next election.
Where’s Steve Cohen of TN?
This is all good, but, does it rise to the level of “Robust”?
How can anyone be a member of the progressive caucus and not sign this?
And the number keeps growing!! I too would like to see Anna Eshoo sign the letter to the leadership & Jackie Spear!! I would think they should have already seeing as they represent one of the most progressive areas in the country!!
Well now all we have to do is cross-reference this list with our FDL list and then kindly call the office and request that they become a proud member of the FDL Pledge Group.
I am curious how many on this list – avoided Mike or used weasel language while being interviewed.
Doing my six days a month in the nursing home a month with my 82 year old dad. Gives my mother a break
Most of the senior folks I am talking to do not think that the Dems have the balls to stand up for and pass legislation with a public option. Most of these elders believe the Insurance companies will win out. Not much faith in the system. One old boy who is 87 said if had known that our coutnry was going to be in the shape it is in right now he would have “thought twice about serving in WWII”. Whoa boy
Wish Micheal Moore would start getting into these nursing homes with his cameras interviewing these older folks. Might be tough to get in this place with cameras since Hearlands across the country just got bought up by the Carlysle Group a while back. You know two beds in a room 6000.oo dollar a bed, four seniors to a bathroom, the worst food one can imagine. The aides generally make around 9.00 an hour. Chhhchhing chhhhching for the owners of Heartland.
Has anyone seen any coverage about the Health Care Now march anywhere on the MSM today? I have not seen one peep. Damn I knew they should have held the march in Iran so that our MSM would have covered them every minute of the day.
On the Ed Show and Chris Matthews I saw the same fucking clip of the Pres, V.P Biden, Crawley and Prof Gates drinking brewskies at least 25 times just on these two shows.
Chris Matthews “what Health Care March” If the protest did not take place in Iran it does not exist
Jan Harman is a member of the Blue Dog Caucus
Good to see Maurice Hinchey’s name up there.
Jackie did sign. Waiting for Anna.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this number keeps going up, too.
Jane Harman has shown she is willing to betray the United States for a sweet deal, from AIPAC. So I am guessing she will betray anyone to keep our corrupt and profitable, Illness Maintenance Insurance system.
Obama’s probably happy to get rid of this crew.
What? No Welch? He is so going to hear from me again tomorrow. I’m appalled. Freaking congressman from Vermont, what does he have to lose?
Where’s Jan Schakowsky?
Just saw that!! And Anna?? Where are you?? Please don’t tell me you have turned into a Blue Dog!!
Nobody in Energy and Commerce signed, as they’re in markup. That might change after they pass the bill to the floor.
Yes, the public plan still has no content and is delayed until 2013. We need to know what it will contain and we need it sooner.
Running for the Senate?
The people of this country cannot wait until 2013!! Just how many citizens must die waiting for health care coverage??? We must have A Public Option on day ONE!! Or the Health Care industry wins!!
Is she busy waddling today? Surprised she is not “waddling on over” to make a deal with the Insurance Companies.
Has anyone seen an ounce of coverage about the Health Care Now march that took place in D.C. today. So far tonight I have not seen one minute on it. We need to see the clip of the Prez having a beer with Officer Crowley, Professor Gates and V.P. Biden another 100 times before the evening is out. Health care march? Who the hell cares about interviewing, Doctors, nurses, other health care professionals and thousands of Americans marching and lobbying for single payer etc when you can show the public the same shot of the Prez drinking a Bud a thousand times over an evening.
Do Insurance Companies lobby the MSM networks? Or are they owned by the same fat cats? Not a peep about the march. Did it get called off or something
Diary Leen and what is the profit margin on nursing homes? Some things should be run as a not for profit.
Thanks Marisa. Great to see Gwen Moore (D-WI), disappointed that MADISON’S Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) isn’t there. Baldwin voted against the War Supplemental and Moore caved in on that vote.
Big props to Mike Stark for his great work. I have to think his efforts played a pivotal role in driving the letter.
Yeah we can afford it just poll the American people and ask what do you want more Healthcare now or to keep spending the money on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
most Americans are content with the mere illusion of an independent media, just as most Americans are content with the illusion of the Democrats as an opposition party.
the media been systematically ignoring inconvenient marches for more than 20 years, just as the Democrats have been a thoroughly corporatized faction for that long or longer.
No one in the E&C committee signed…Baldwin is in E&C.
ok, here’s the thing; Henry Waxman, Anna Eshoo, Frank Pallone, Donna Christensen, Diana DeGette, Tammy Baldwin, and Peter Welch did not sign because they’re in the E&C markups.
WATT
not Watts, for good ol’ Mel…
and I wish tuh hell, he’d run agst Richard Burr in NC Senate race…
I let Lipinski and Melissa Bean know that I’ll be supporting their opponents regardless of party. I won’t ever help a blue dog again.
This weekend, my wife and I are going camping in Indiana and we’re going to stop at Evan Bayh’s HQ to let him know where we stand. I’d rather see 52 solid Dem Senators than 60 Dems with only 48 good ones.
I’m done with Bayh, no matter what he does now.
Just sent a thumbs up email to Maurice Hinchey.
Email to Sam Farr: Real health care access & insurance reform
Sam,
Now, you are among 57 progressive house members who have signed this letter.
http://campaignsilo.firedoglak…..ompromise/
Rahm Emmanuel’s idea of a public option is Chapter 11, 13 or 7 for America’s families while Big Pharma & the insurance industry kill real reform.
No one asks where the money will come from when it’s for bombing other countries into the Stone Age based on falsified intelligence, torture and outright lies.
Someone needs to speak up for the health of our citizens as a public good that our nation cannot afford to do without.
We’re counting on you to be that voice.
From Democrat.com in an email, so I cut and paste. Sorry for the length, but it’s interesting info, and names names you folks have dropped in here:
One week ago, we eagerly anticipated a crucial vote on single-payer Medicare for All ( H.R.676 ) in the House Energy & Commerce Committee, sponsored by Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY). But then seven BlueDogs waged a highly-publicized war against a “robust public option” and the vote was delayed for a full week.
We just learned the vote will be tomorrow ( Friday ). Based on all of your calls, we have nine single-payer Democrats: Tammy Baldwin, Michael Doyle, Eliot Engel, Anna Eshoo, Gene Green, Edward Markey, Janice Schakowsky, Anthony Weiner, and Peter Welch.
Lean Yes
Diana DeGette CO01 202-225-4431

Christopher Murphy CT05 202-225-4476
Frank Pallone NJ06 202-225-4671 @FrankPallone
Bobby Rush IL01 202-225-4372
Five more Democrats are leaning single-payer but still uncommitted. Please call each one and give them one crucial reason to support single-payer from our petition:

(Be sure to sign our petition and forward it if you haven’t already.)
Be concise and practice in advance so you can speak quickly (or leave a voicemail) because they are getting swamped. Report the results of your calls here:

If you have more time, these 14 Democrats support a “public option” at best. But that “public option” (a new government program to compete with private insurance) was disastrously weakened this week by the BlueDogs. They banned the use of Medicare pricing to reduce costs and thereby expand availability. Try to persuade these 14 to vote for single-payer instead of a worthless BlueDog “public option.”
Don’t let anyone tell you single-payer can’t pass: the Kucinich Amendment for a single-payer “state option” passed by a shocking 25-19 bi-partisan majority in the House Education and Labor Committee on July 17. The Weiner Amendment will pass on Friday if enough Democrats vote for it!
Thanks to all for the background on Baldwin.
Just sent this to My congress critter Anna Eshoo:
yes!!!
fattah came through, thank god!
Where’s Chris VanHollen?
And where’s Neil Abercrombie [HI-1]?
Where’s Defazio (OR)? He despises the insurance companies. I’ll give his office a call tomorrow.
… and somewhere in Whoville, the dem’s cajones grew 3 sizes that day.
Best freaking news I have heard in months.
Lipinski and Bean are on our side on this.
Almost every one of these so-called “Progressives” (a euphemism for Socialists and Communists) is an Open Borders, pro-illegal alien whack job. However, in this one tally, they are correct in defying Obamacare. However, the reason they oppose the Blue Dogs agreement with leadership is because they know that the Blue Dogs will not allow any loophole–IE non-enforcement of “only citizens are eligible for coverage”–or the Blue Dogs will bolt. The bottome line? These wonderful “Progressives” want this medical coverage for the 30 to 40 million illegal aliens here. They are about as un-American in foisting this on U.S. taxpayers as it gets.
I do not favor ANY agreement between the Blue Dogs and Pelosi. It means “capitulation”. But for now, I’m glad the Progressives are opposing this. The nation cannot afford any kind of Socialized medicine. The Fed. Govt. has no business being in the medical profession–none! But beyond all this, the Canadian Socialized health care system–when patients often have to wait months for operations and as a result die–is absolutely unacceptable. The Socialists don’t value human life, conservatives understand that. But the blatant attempt by the pro-illegal alien leftists in the House to keep any amendment like the Deal Amendment from passing is disgraceful and shameful. Rep. Deal’s Amendment was simple–the Plan only would apply to citizens, not Border jumpers, visa overstayers and gang bangers!
Where are the New York Carolyns?? Maloney and McCarthy? Would also like to see Jim Moran and Gerry Connelly on here too..
Good morning everyone. What a great day for a revolution! Shall we begin?
Does anyone have handy the phone numbers to the Sunday talk shows: This Week; MTP; Face the Nation; CNN; MSNBC? We may as well rattle the cages of media after the H.R. 676 vote.
We need to push these blue dogs off of the talk shows and replace them with liberals and progressives.
PLEASE STOP DRINKING THE KOOLAIDE, it kills whatever braincells you have acquired. As usual when I see this kind of diatribe I refuse to even grace it with an answer, but , you came on this site looking for an arguement, so I guess you will get one.
I am sure most of the Canadian citizenry will not trade their health system for yours and mine. I personally have friends living in Windsor Ontario who have received excellent health care for years and have had major heart surgery, brain surgery and any other care they needed without any undue waiting period. As a Ford Motor Co. retiree I used to enjoy excellent Health care but those benefits have been deleted for the most part. If you are talking about waiting periods try to get an MRI or Petscan within a few days, the normal waiting period is three to five weeks uless you are a sports figure or an extreme emergency.
In closing I always try to remember what my mother espoused, “ignorance is bliss, but there is nothing you can do with stupid”.
I called Rep. Carolyn Maloney’s (D-NY 14) DC office, asked why Maloney, as a member of the Progressive Caucus who has (only recently) committed to voting against any health care bill that doesn’t have a public plan (nationwide, on day 1, & accountable to Congress & the voters, had not signed the letter.
The man answering the phones – several ringing phones in the background- offered to take a message…. and said that he ’hadn’t heard of any (official) comment (from Maloney or staff) on that’ (issue) …
I asked if he knew which letter I was referring to?
Him: ’I’m not involved with that… I haven’t really heard anything other than the calls’ (calls to Maloney’s offices)
Me: Is there anyone there who is involved with it?’
Him: There’s an office mtg right now.
So, it seem they have received a noticeable number of calls on this issues, & I’ll be calling back, and let you know if I get anywhere.
