I have been looking for some direct quote from Hoyer and all I am getting is second hand accounts of what his remarks might have meant. But actual words I find on record only indicate Hoyer threatening to delay the recess by a few days and not in fact pushing to move action to September. I would be happy to eat my words if someone could actually provide Steny’s, but an equally plausible argument is that Pelosi and Hoyer are playing good cop/bad cop with Pelosi saying she has the votes for a July 31 deadline and Steny telling reluctant members that they will extend the session if necessary.

And yes I know that Hoyer is at heart a corporatist, but at least he deserves to be hanged with his own words.

That is not a quote. That is the Hill’s characterization of what Hoyer said.

Rule one of the new political coverage. When either Politico or The Hill paraphrase someone, hold onto your wallet because the odds are that is not really what he said at all. In exactly what words did Hoyer “hold open the possibility”. Or did he just not deny it which in the Politico/Hill word is just as good.

What about sending a “get this done” letter to dems on waxman’s committee, hoyer, and pelosi? It may help to know we’re paying attention to the detail.

If there’s only a “possibility” the House leaves without a bill, then I feel good…the media tends to overstate things for dramatic effect…especially since they added that part after saying they were considering holding the House open thru Saturday or early next week.

Anyone know why the House is due to leave on July 31st and the Senate on Aug 7?

relentless is the word. You can bet your a** if it were their healthcare on the line they would stay until the job was done. How many Americans get one vacation a year let alone two or three. I couldn’t care less if these clowns get a vacation. They sure as hell don’t deserve one IMO.

Hoyer is the House’s Reid. All the other leaders are leaders - Hoyer ain’t quite the same cut of cloth.

Glad the mark-ups are up and running - Waxman must have got them to fold.

We need to start getting ready for a long August but if we can get this bill out of the house with the right stuff in it. Then we can work the FDL Letter to the Editor Tool and the District-by-District Benefits released by the E&C Committee to consolidate support because we will be speaking of ‘the benefit to them’ and the Editors will be more likely to run the story.
