The Republicans, the Blue Dogs and Joe Lieberman want to stall passing a health care bill, because they know that if members go back to their districts in August it gives the health insurance lobby a chance to hammer them with millions in advertising. There’s one word for that: unacceptable. The House should keep working until they pass a health reform bill – health care is more important than vacation.
We just created a petition asking the House to stay in session to pass health reform. Click here to sign the petition.Mike Stark will be delivering your signature on video to the House at the end of this week. Some Members of Congress want three weeks of vacation before they tackle health care reform. There is a real human cost for going on vacation. Three weeks in America without health care means:
- 143,250 people will lose their health insurance coverage
- 53,507 people will file for bankruptcy because they can’t pay their medical bills
- 1,265 people will die because they lack coverage
The House is so close to passing a health reform bill – they should not go on vacation now when thousands are losing their health care or worse every day.
Click here to sign the petition and ask the House to stay in session to pass health care instead of going on vacation. Health care just can’t wait.

Signed. Still calling. Slackers.
That’s a trick SAT question, right? How are these three things similar?
Yeah, just like the rest of America. Or, perhaps we should change the laws to only cover you with your Healthcare Plan while you are actually on the Hill doing Our Business. Any other time, you have to use your own “private health insurance”.
Obstruction and lies are all the wingnuts offer, but that’s become their new ideology. Every minute they keep the public interest from being served is another victory for these enemies of the country. Signed.
Signed.
Signed. Reason: Because the illness and disease that strikes millions of uninsured and underinsured Americans never takes a vacation.
Signed.
What is this “vacation” idea thingee that you speak of…?
OH, and signed.
Signed.
Ummmmm…whatever happens will not go into effect until 2013…so exactly how does a vacation help or hurt other than to get the facts known to the American people? Unless you want to rush things past their eyes…

Signing us into bankruptcy and permanent ownership by the Red Chinese.
signed Dana sure was kissing ass. Dana you are one of the reasons we keep going to Firedoglake and other blogs to get the news and coverage
Who was taking that video clip?
Let’s buy them a new camera with better sound. Will they be doing this often might be worth it chipping in. I would chip in a couple of bits.
By the way Jane you rock
Signed and sent! If tehy want vacation then they should give up their helth care during that time. Let them worry for at least a while.
Signed, I see the Wing Nuts have paid a troll to infiltrate the boards. Did I actually see a McCarthyism being thrown about? For the party of No and the Blue Dogs who want to slow things down and are afraid of increased taxes on the wealthy, well you know what, those folks will be paying more next year and the next year and the year after with double digit premium increases. I have been purchasing health insurance through my employer since the eighties and the premiums have increased every year. What’s the difference if I pay higher taxes or higher premiums? I am still going to be paying more regardless. I have not seen the message framed this way at all.
I for one welcome our Red Chinese overlords.
And trollie, they are rank capitalists these days if you haven’t heard.
143,250 people will lose their health insurance coverage
53,507 people will file for bankruptcy because they can’t pay their medical bills
1,265 people will die because they lack coverage
Boy… these are some bogus numbers. I would love to know where you guys created these. Nice scare tactic. If it weren’t for scare tactics you libs would not have a game plan at all because you know the only way people will “conform” is if their livelihood is threatened. If you were forced to use real data and tell the real cost they American people would have nothing to do with it… period… except for you libs on the fringe.
Don’t you guys get it??? A vast majority of Americans do not want the government involved. In the end the government f**ks things up and they cost a lot more. You can take the number Obama says it will cost and multiply it by three.
Signed!
Thanks to you and slinkerwink and nyceve, to all who are working so hard to get Congress to do the right thing.
Don’t you get it? Haven’t you been reading. The government IS involved. They are paid representatives of the for-profit health care industry. It’s about the health of their bank account, not about health care for you or for me.
How’s the insurance business, freddy? Killed any more 17-year-olds lately?
BTW Ed Schulz is all over Mike Ross’ tushie on the radio. On fire! I didn’t know that Ross had put his cushy little fundraiser schedule ahead of a markup session, but it figures. I’m glad he’s enjoying his cocktail parties in good health and federal health care plan.
Signed.
Signed with a note. Forwarded to all my friends.
you can take the number Obama says it will cost and multiply it by three..then shove it up yer ass Fred!
you wouldn’t have heard it here, but here’s the link for ya:
http://theplumline.whorunsgov……-web-site/
my point is – the congresscritters who you are calling and imploring are dragging their feet because the Big Chief does not want major, real reform – he wants shallow, sham reform, in which everyone is compelled into some plan so the insurance oligopoly can make more money!
Did you click the links in those numbers. They’re here: http://action.firedoglake.com/…..e=fdlemail
They are all sourced and accurate.
Signed.
I’m tired of being promised pie in the sky later, while getting hay now, because ‘we can’t afford’ to improve life for average people, while the rich somehow end up deserving everything they can beg, borrow, or steal.
If Congress can’t do the job before vacationing, I say make their vacations permanent: toss them out of their cushy jobs.
You’ve been badmouthing Obama since you showed up. In my book, that makes you a troll.
Obama wants health care reform. Just knows what $$$$$$$$$$$ he is up against.
that is why he (and Dean) keep repeating “if you like what you have you can keep it”
Obama knows that real reform can only happen in incremental steps.
up against???
taking private meetings with, and refusing to disclose who attended!
thats not up against, that is in bed with!
hey and PJ, go over and call Glenn Greenwald a troll, he is among the many who are not afraid to observe and comment on such things:

question.
If one does not question “the government’s” qualifications to run the military, dpt of homeland security, The NSA, the space program, (just a few examples)
how can one then question it’s qualifications to run the medical system?
76% of Americans want a public plan
Here’s the link:

If you want to argue against that, the most effective way is to provide a link that supports your claim. Otherwise people are likely to believe that you can’t.
What’s your plan? What are you affirmatively doing to achieve your objective besides standing there and screaming LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME at the top of your lungs?
Please let us know what your plan is to achieve your goal of single payer coverage. How do we get from here to there? Walk us through it. We want to know.
It would be nice to hear that you understand that members of Congress, and not commenters at FDL, are the ones who cast the votes and can make it happen. That would be a good start.

Signed, with a note.
(By the way, if socialized health insurance is the road to all ruin and downfall, then why exactly are all the European countries with socialized health insurance doing so very much better than the US, economically speaking?)
Signed with a note and forwarded to like-minded friends. Just hope we all here (& the remaining 72% of Americans) mean more to the Congress than the pharma-hospital-provider complex. As far as socialized medicine – speaking as an ex-Brit. – it’s got my vote!
hey JH, I don’t know is you’re still around.
how about I take a week off and work on my secret master plan while this health care battle plays out . . .
but when I come back it would be nice if I could get some points seriously addressed, instead of name calling and counterplan challenging?
really, in the course of all this, basically nothing I’ve said has been dealt with substantively.
the good folks at http://www.singlepayeraction.org/,
the points made in the article in the Progressive, the reference to Obama’s personal doc in Chicago being a single payer advocate, the link to the Bill Moyers video in which this (D) pattern if found repeated back with Clinton, and even Jimmy Carter – all that happened here was the messenger gets sniped at.
I linked to the news on greenwald and TPM and
http://www.latimes.com/news/na…..?track=rss
about Obama shielding his meeting with insurance execs and just got sniped at, then at 4pm emptywheel has a frontpage post on it!
as Greenwald says:
I could hang back for a week and research if FDL had anything to say about Cheney’s stonewalling, then compare it with the attention your Presidents stonewalling gets.
Thanks Jane! Everyone remember, we voted them into office. They work for us. We can vote them out. Let them shop for health insurance while they are unemployed, with prior medical conditions. They can look for work as lobbyists after they lose an election!
