The Education & Labor committee will begin markup of the health care bill tomorrow at 3pm at 2175 Rayburn. We’re going to get there early in the morning and compete for seats with the homeless, who are holding places in line for lobbyists who pay them (see video).
We’ve asked the committee to reserve a front row seat for Hilda Sarkisyan, Nataline’s mother, who is flying in from California expressly for the purpose of sitting in the front row with her daughter’s picture. We’ve also asked the Speaker’s office for help. Patrick Kennedy told Mike Stark that his office would try to help, but when we called the staffer we got transferred several times and haven’t heard back. They said they thought it was "unrealistic" because the Congressman wasn’t on the committee.
According to the video above, lobbyists pay $3500 apiece for those seats. To companies that hire the homeless. Anyone who thinks it’s not important for supporters of affordable healthcare to be there should consider how very important it is to those trying to kill it.
I’ll be there, along with nyceve and Hilda Sarkisyan. If you’re in the DC area we hope you’ll join us.
If you can’t be there, you can help by contributing to the fund we set up to pay for expenses like bringing Hilda to DC.

About FDL Action
I wish I could be there but will be there in spirit.
Jane, why do you fight this fight?
Seems to me it’s better to fight against the system rather than within it.
Yeah that’s been really successful, hasn’t it? String of victories, that one.
You fight against the evil fucks.
And lose every time.
I want to fight and win.
Name one success you’ve had, Art. Just one.
The Sarkysiyan family is represented by Adam Schiff CA-29 – a blue dog – hope he will make time for them
Well.
I’ve had articles published.
I’ve got lots of clients.
What do you mean?
What articles?
I prefer to keep my identity hidden. Because within my arena I’m well-known.
As for journals: The Journal of Taxation. Trusts & Estates. Others.
So, if I read this right – the homeless folks holding the places for lobbyists don’t even receive the whole $3500?
Would be very interesting to know how much of it they do get….$35? $350?
I know, a side issue for sure, but illustrative, as you say, of the strong motivation of the other side.
Wish I could afford to donate a competitive amount.
Do we have any locals who can spend the night with the homeless folks to hold a spot?
Geez. I feel a rant coming on, that would reel from one issue to another to another….I will refrain.
Best chance might actually be the Blue Dog rep of Ms Sarkisyan…that’s sposed to be a constituent service, isn’t it?
FDL and others kicked Lieberman out of the Democratic party in CT. JoLie had to spend $350,000 to buy votes in the primary just to be able to stay viable in the general. That sucked other resources from Rove. That probably got Webb elected in VA, which at the time, no one predicted.
Without FDL and other blogs, I’m not sure if we would have gotten a guilty verdict on Libby.
Jane and other blogs’s been key in organizing against the banksters.
FDL and other blogs just came damn close to stopping the War Supplemental.
Jane has been extremely strong forever on glbt rights. I’d say she’s kicking ass on that one on the state level.
You have no clue how valuable Jane was during the general, keeping liberals quiet on Palin, so Sarah couldn’t cry martyr. That allowed Sarah to self-destruct.
FDL and other liberal blogs have put a serious dent in the WaPu and NYT’s purveying of pablum.
Jane has put Marcy Wheeler’s reporting on a much more sustainable path.
That’s just off the top of my head and it doesn’t include day-to-day running of a very important, popular that has open commenting. She has created a terrific stable of writers, reads every word that’s written in addition to posting frequently.
She’s accomplished all that and a ton more (that I don’t know about) while losing her Mom and surviving major surgery.
I dunno, but I think Jane is asking what success you’ve had against the evil fucks, since you imply that her actions resemble tilting at windmills.
We need posts about tax law.
What the hell is a tax lawyer doing lecturing Jane about fighting the goddamn system?
Come’on Art, if you are what you say, let’s see it in a Seminal post. I understand hiding your identity. But don’t hide talents that you say you have from this community. From behind a pseudonym, you can really help us.
What about the tax dodges that banks use by buying life insurance policies on their top executives. You could really help us by exposing that.
There’s a lot of ignorance in this community about tax law the dodges the GOP uses to foist more of the tax burden on those who can least afford it.
You have a way with words, dakine01.
And I would add to Boo Radley’s list — the fact that we have a public option still on the table, and so many Congresscritters coming out in favor of it just lately.
Art45 might want to take some time out of his career-polishing publishing to read Eric Boehlert’s Bloggers on the Bus, paying special attention to his portions about [I say with huge pride] Our Jane.
Those things have value, I don’t mean to denigrate them and you should be proud, but the way you couched your statement implies that fighting AGAINST the system was somehow more successful than fighting WITHIN it.
I’m willing to be persuaded, but I just don’t see evidence of that.
