Update: ShowMeProgress joins in to support Cleaver.
Yesterday Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II of Missouri gave an amazing video pledge to Mike Stark on the Hill, saying he would not support a health care bill that did not have a strong public option available to all from day one.
That makes 8 House members who have made such strong public commitments: Raul Grijalva, Keith Ellison, Lynn Woolsey, Maxine Waters, Phil Hare, Jerrold Nadler, Rush Holt and Cleaver. Raul Grijalva also wrote the letter to President Obama telling Rahm Emanuel to back off triggers.
These members won’t compromise for Kent Conrad’s weasly "co-op" plan. They won’t try to pass off this insurance industry slight-of-hand as a public plan to satisfy the 76% of Americans who want one. These members are committed to a real, meaningful public option. And if we can get 32 more, we can keep any health care bill from passing that doesn’t have one.
It can’t be all stick, no carrot.
Our page is already #3 on the front page of ActBlue, and we want to get to #1 so people can see we’re willing to support members of Congress who support health care. And ActBlue calculates ranking based on number of donations, not size of donations. So $1 each — $8 to 8 candidates — will really help us get there.
Let’s show these members of Congress that we support them, that we are there for them, and that we will remember that they took a courageous stand to insist that health care for all Americans should be a basic human right.
Please give $8 for 8 to Health Care Heroes.

About FDL Action
Yes I can, 8 for 8.
Gave my $8 per candidate just now. Heroes for us.
Done. (The Blue Dogs should go bark at the moon. From an island somewhere.)
Thanks Jane ,I am a self employed person who lacks health coverage .I have been dealings with a degenerative disease in my spine for the last twenty years. I need to be able to work two get health insurance and I need treatment so I can continue working.
I’m pretty much stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Needless two say I have a personal stake in this issue and will do pretty much anything to get us a public option.
I believe health care should be a right not a privilege , and I want it so bad i can taste it.
Thanks again for all your hard work and the tireless effort you have put forth ,it means a lot to me
Great idea, Jane, let’s make these numbers work for us today. I am in for $8. Thanks for everything you do!
Geez, I need to read more carefully. I thought Jane wanted $8 per and when Jane speaks……
Happy to give, though, and hope that many more get on this wagon.
If I am not mistaken, Cleaver is a very fine minister. That should be part of the message; the man learned something about doing for the least of these/or the lesson of the Good Samaritan. Family values, community values, sharing, caring, and justice…you bet’cha
That’s a very good point — we should ask him to do a post about that. I’ve been in contact with the Missouri bloggers about this, maybe we can do something with him/them.
You mean a lot to me. Thanks so much for your support, and for sharing your story, billybugs.
I’m going to go over and give $8 more just for you!
Anyone want to match me? For billybugs?
I’m in. $108 and then a second $8. For billybugs and (((Jane))).
Thanks. I would love to see his remarks.
Thank you! Wow, we’re up to 27 donors. Can anybody help make it 30?

You keep your money and get better. I will go make a contribution for you in appreciation for all you do.
Okay just gave 8$ for 8. It’s the least I can do.
I also emailed others I know and asked if they could do it as well.
Thanks Jane I hope we meet someday so I can thank you in person
Have a great day
Me too. And that when this fight is over, you get the health care that you need.
Yeah, we’re up to 33!
This is great:

$5 across the board. I call it the Octafecta! All winners in my book.
(That’s $1 for me and $4 for for folks on fixed incomes who would if they could ;-)
My $8 for 8 is done. Thanks for the link
“Eight for eight” is a great idea.
Put in $20 yesterday for Cleaver. Gave $2 today to each of the other seven.
I had lousy productivity in terms of the number of calls I made last week. Talk is cheap. Hopefully, I can do better this week.
Yeah, me too :-(
But I did mange to hit up Carolyn Maloney. She lives on my block, was my rep when I was in NY.
I’m in $10 for 8, what the heck.. they are heroes. The page is now #2 on Act Blue, BTW.
just watched Bill Moyers program from last night on heath care bottom line – profits and the charming practice called “recission.” (suspend the policy because the new breast cancer patient forgot to list acne on her application). I am in. This is a good idea. Cheers Jane.
