Statement by SLDN Executive Director Aubrey Sarvis on DNC Event
SLDN will be outside boycotting the Democratic National Committee (DNC) LGBT event in Washington this Thursday. SLDN will be calling upon the President to end his silence on "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell." We will be wearing and handing out buttons with the number 265, representing the number of service members who will have been discharged this week since President Obama was sworn in. We do not, nor would we want to, dictate how members of our board or our Military Advisory Council make their political views known. However, I understand that two board members are attending the DNC event. I also understand they will be making their own spirited and creative statements once inside the room.
Aravosis reports there was a White House conference call with members of the DNC’s gay caucus today in which one of them asked the White House Deputy Chief of staff and political director "What are we going to do about the blogs?"
I’d say the blogs are the least of their problems at this point.

Emphasis mine.
Seems these two words are taboo in the Village, unless you’re caught banging someone other than your spouse.

Maybe they ought to pay attention to what we are saying. But it seems they’d rather be corporate whores.
Change we can believe in.
Good sign we are not the biggest problem we are getting popular support.
Always sounded like a twist on the faith based party to me.
Called “traction.” Yep, seems like it’s there.
What issues does this member of the DNC’s gay caucus have with “the blogs”???
And which blogs: Michele Malkin, PowerLine, Dkos, … ?
And what do they think can be done “about the blogs”?
I think the LGBT community has used the blogs very effectively. Can’t imagine why there is a problem unless it’s all that shouting we’re doing at the WH…..supporting the LGBT.
So the problem is how to prevent the blogs from forcing the President to make good on his campaign promises regarding DADT and DOMA ?????
“This boat shall not rock.”
I’m sure redfish centrist consulting troll services is negotiating a hefty contract for further study on us right now. /s
It’s a puzzle and I don’t get it at all.

Well that is easy, how about listen to the people who busted their butts to get you into office? That could be a novel idea.
Gee you sure are good for my ego. Imagine little old me who actually cares about this country and what happens to it being accused of being paid to study and research FDL. I wonder if you have any idea how certifiably insane you come across? Probably not.
On the subject, you will be extremely unhappy to hear that I support SLDN on this. Boycotting the event is a great idea and will get some deserved media attention. I hope that the two members who are attending though are respectful and don’t act like Code Pink members do at congressional hearings. That will only play right into conservatives hands and alienate independents and moderates alike. Given the “spirited and creative statement” heads up — I doubt they will be astute enough to follow my political counsel.
There won’t be any media attention; you don’t understand the nature of this DNC event.
Then what is the sense of the boycott if no one will be watching or paying attention . . .
Oh, mother of god, those terrible terrible terrible troublesome blogs … full of passionate people who really care enough to THINK about truth and act on issues, like CIVIL fucking RIGHTS. Can’t be embarrasing the lobbyists or the PAID political operatives. Can’t be interfering with raising money around issues that we don’t care to solve.
This fight is absolutely the right fight. And it ain’t just about gay rights … altho’ that would be enough on its own. It made me mad from the getgo and I’m not gay! This is what they don’t get: this is not a decent way to work with or treat ANY constituency. The fact that it’s an historically mistreated constituency makes it sting more. From a President who should have a lot more insight than he is demonstrating on this issue. He feigns insight on every other issue, so why not this?
And it’s because this is a pattern that is being repeated on various issues that it’s getting traction. People are waking up all over the place, on issues like transparency, wiretapping, torture, and Darfur.
Nice chumming. Good job, Dr. Pavlov.
It’s the “/s” at the end that makes it art.
This event is a DNC fundraiser. The point of the boycott is to let the DNC know they’ve just been cut off. If they want gay $$$, they’re going to have to start making good on Obama’s campaign promises.
Oh that is smart. Blackmail, coercion. It’s only been five months and there are a couple of other “more important” issues floating around like the economy, health care, North Korea, Iran, Iraq.
That’s what is wrong with this country, everyone only is concerned with what affects them. That’s why this is a progressive movement I don’t understand anymore. Mean spirited, angry, hateful, threatening, narcissistic.
Go back and listen to a couple of Joan Baez albums and maybe you will get it.
Holy crap, I didn’t realize this was the number.
Good on these guys for publicizing this. Now, if someone other than those DFH blogs would pick this up . . .
Thanks, Jane.
PS – the “underline” feature doesn’t seem to work.
PPS – Don’t feed ‘em.
It never has for me. I have heard-tell that only Windows machines running Explorer qualify.
Good for them.
I’ll tell you what — don’t feed me and I won’t give you your kool aid.
I know, a pretty stark number.
Oh brother, how is it we need Joan Baez to illustrate for us that we, who gave Obama millions of dollars and worked our butts off for him are deserving of equal rights? The DNC has one purpose and one purpose only, raise money for Dems who many times will throw us under the bus if challenged. Not only is this particular fund raiser happening but another one honoring Pelosi, the representative of the Castro district, is another must attend for the money lesbian and gay Democrats. $$$=access, not rights.
We are FED UP with our issues being dismissed — and only spoken of when you want our money.
Last year, I advised any who would listen NOT to stand up for their rights. Because the votes were there to take them away again.
It’s different now, IMO. Get DOMA to the Supremes. I honestly think those strict constructionists will support gay unions. The first amendment says if a church does not want to marry a couple, the government can’t make them. Likewise, if the church DOES want to marry a couple, the government can’t stop them. Likewise, the 14th amendment would seem to preclude treating LBGT couples any differently then pure hetro couples.
If a transgendered male wants to wed a transgendered female, is that legal?
Boxturtle (Would PAY to see that argued in court!)
